These 64 accessible golf courses have hosted a USGA championship

The United States Golf Association is often associated with the prestigious golf courses that have hosted their many championships. And to be sure, the majority of those championships have been conducted at private golf clubs (with the notable exceptions being the now-defunct U.S. Amateur Public Links and U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links). With the recent announcement that the USGA will be establishing a secondary headquarters in Pinehurst, N.C., it seems the organization's interest in holding its championships at accessible courses should only deepen in the future.

In total, 128 USGA Championships have been contested on 64 golf courses that are currently accessible to the public. They include municipal courses, public daily-fee facilities and resort layouts. Some have been remodeled over the years, but they all have USGA championship pedigrees in common, placing them in elite company.

This American golf landmark by the Pacific needs no introduction. It is as clear-cut a bucket-list course as there is in the world.

1999, 2005, 2014
With the recent announcement from the USGA that makes No. 2 an "anchor site" for the U.S. Open, that means spots on the schedule for the Donald Ross masterpiece as far in the future as 2047.

2002, 2009
Bethpage Black seems to have transitioned from USGA to PGA darling, having hosted the 2019 PGA and looking forward to the 2025 Ryder Cup. Nothing wrong with that.

2008
It will be hard to top the drama of the 2008 U.S. Open, but come the 2021 edition, you never know.

2015
Suspect putting surfaces and a shocking final-green collapse that handed Jordan Spieth the win marred the intrigue provided by an otherwise fascinating and iconoclastic layout. If and when Chambers gets a second turn, its greens should be worlds better, as they've been converted from finicky fescue to more manageable poa annua.

2017
The enigma-wrapped legend of Brooks Koepka began here on a week where damp pre-tournament weather caused scores to be uncommonly low for a U.S. Open. Nevertheless, with a future U.S. Mid-Amateur scheduled, Erin Hills appears to have a place in the USGA's heart going forward.

Se Ri Pak catapulted South Korea into the spotlight as a force in competitive golf when she won here in 1998. The composite course consists of most of the Meadow Valleys layout's back nine and a selection of holes from the River Course.

This club welcomes non-member play from overnight guests, and along with its newer partner course Mossy Oak Golf Club makes an excellent Deep South golf getaway.

One of the West's best resorts, the Broadmoor has hosted four different USGA Championships in its storied history.

This lakeside layout appears on NBC airwaves every summer when it hosts the celebrity-packed American Century Championship, but you may not have known it hosted the sixth-ever U.S. Senior Open, won by Miller Barber.

This Senior Open, won by Simon Hobday, garnered the most entries in the championship's history to date: 2,390.

2007
The Pete Dye-designed Straits has most recently been a PGA of America darling, but Brad Bryant captured a USGA championship here by three shots over Ben Crenshaw.

David Toms won the most recent of two Senior Opens played here, using a composite routing from the East and West courses.

Steve Stricker brought this Coore/Crenshaw design to its knees, shooting 19-under and winning by six.

Captain Carol Semple Thompson led the United States side to an 11.5-6.5 victory over the GB&I team at this Tom Doak masterpiece.

In 1999, David Gossett beat Sung Yoon Kim 9&8 in one of the Amateur's most lopsided finals ever. That year, the championship received a record 7,920 entries.

For the first time ever in 2019, the final match was played on two different courses: No. 4 in the morning and No.2 in the afternoon. Andy Ogletree bested John Augenstein, 2&1.

The Amateur, won here in '88 by Eric Meeks, is one of six different championships to have been contested at least once at The Homestead.

Nearly 30 years before alumnus Jack Nicklaus redesigned this Alister MacKenzie original, Willie Wood captured the U.S. Junior Amateur title by defeating David Games in the final.

Tiger Woods' love affair with Bay Hill goes farther back than his eight Arnold Palmer Invitational victories. Nine years before the first of those, he won the first of his six USGA championships here, beating Brad Zwetschke in the final.
