Too many elderly are quitting the game. Too many kids are quitting after the first year. Why? The game isn't fun for them, it's too difficult. Much has been done to shorten the courses but from inside 100 yards, it's a level playing field. Whether you're the best golfer in the world or his 88 year old grandfather.Golf courses need to have 2 holes in every green. The standard 4 1/2" cup everyone plays and a 6" cup with a shorter "pirate" flag that designates the difference. You would be amazed how much fun poor golfers will have making those ten foot putts!
I have never quit mid-round. And I would never quit because of "slow play." First, at a public course, it is more reasonable to assume that there will be some waiting. I always make that assumption. Second if I do have to wait, I can choose at the very least to take the opportunity to work on my short game with shots from the rough of 10 to 15 yd. Several years ago I simply decided I would no longer let's slow play bother me. I wouldn't talk about it, and I would not respond to comments about it. As a result, it's no longer a problem.
Slow play is the WORST, especially if you are walking on a hot day with no shade. No place to even sit down. That’s right, my course is owned by ants. You can’t sit in the grass. I’ll take rain showers all day long!
I walked off after NOT being able to hit the broad side of the barn! And it was 5 yards right in front of me!!! lol 😜😎🙃🤓🙄🤔😂
I have played in rain that was bouncing off the ground up to my armpits, but I will not play when there is lightening!
Slow play is a major problem why people walk off courses. What is a bigger problem is playing a course that is way too long. whats fun taking three shots a whole. When courses play 6500 yards and longer most take 3 and higher to make the green. This is why i never play anything over that yardage and always tee of within the 3 time of the day. If i could only play in the afternoon i would quit the game
Here in South Florida the Canadians come after Thanksgiving and cash in on any and all offers at local courses…..DO NOT hit a ball in their fairway by accident.....your ball is gone..only to be found in some Canadian's pocket...They play with range balls and slow play because their looking for lost balls...
Ok ...this would be with pairing.....A big guy with a big truck loves to tell you his clubs, balls, bag, and shoes are way better than yours....He is playing with his son....hope the poor boy doesn't pick up his ass hole fathers traits...The son was gracious and probably embarrassed but thankful that DAD picking up the golf tab...Dont ya hate those guys..oh ya every hit was SUGAR.......Woodmont, Tamarac FLA
Only once, doubled one and two. Managed to fight off embarrassment till 9 green. Wished my playing partners a better next couple hours without me chopping up the place. All on my game that day.
You left out cost. At the public course I play, the price has gone from $32. to $40. for an 11:00am tee time. That's more than 20%. I haven't gotten a 20% raise lately.
On Long Island the public courses in Nassau County charge almost 100 dollars with cart. Not worth it but no where else to play. I had to cut back and play once a week.
