Since coming on board a few years ago, the Mississippi Gulf Resorts Classic has become a favorite among Champions Tour players. One reason is the hospitality and food, but another is the host course, Fallen Oak Golf Club, a superb Tom Fazio layout in Saucier, Miss.
Grand Bear Golf Course, a semiprivate course that also serves as an amenity for guests at the Harrah's Gulf Coast, is simply one of the most enjoyable Jack Nicklaus designs you'll ever play. The fairways are generous, the greens are beautifully sculpted and the bunkering, while not easy, frames the holes well. Plus, it's carved out of natural forest and wetlands that give each hole a memorable look.
Shell Landing in Gautier, Mississippi is plenty scenic, wrapping around wetlands and natural areas, but features a course design by Davis Love III that can jump up and bite you in many places.
Golf in Mississippi doesn't get much better than Old Waverly in West Point, which features a scenic Jerry Pate/Bob Cupp design accessible to anyone who books a stay.
