At the Golf Industry Show it's all about building and maintaining a better golf course for golfers. The GIS has it covered, from better rakes and chemicals to new grasses and better bunkers.
TPC San Antonio's AT&T Oaks Course, designed by Greg Norman and player consultant Sergio Garcia, features narrow fairways and difficult green complexes, not to mention loads of large bunkers. The Oaks plays on gently rolling land, and there is less than 100 feet of difference between the high and low point of the course.
The newest addition to the golf scene in Texas is a big one: The JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort, home to the TPC San Antonio's AT&T Oaks and AT&T Canyons courses. This is the largest JW Marriott Resort in the world, set on 600 acres and featuring 1,002 rooms, a 28,000-square-foot spa, six-acre water park, seven dining options and four large conference rooms.
Host of the Valero Texas Open, the AT&T Oaks at TPC San Antonio has earned a reputation as one of the PGA Tour's toughest courses since it began hosting the tournament in 2010. Take a closer look with this photo gallery.
One of seven facilities on the Alamo Golf Trail, Cedar Creek Golf Course represents one of San Antonio's best as well at a fraction of the price. Opened in 1989, this par 72 that plays nearly 7,200 yards is a championship venue that will test all levels of players. Located north of Loop 1604 in the edge of the Texas Hill Country, the course has plenty of movement and several great views, including a panoramic vista from the 10th tee.
One of the best things about a metropolitan golf course is that it can offer an escape from the nearby, bustling metropolis. At The Republic Golf Club in San Antonio, it's hard to believe you're just minutes from the heart of one of America's largest cities. That each hole is lined by mature elm, oak and mesquite trees means you're in for a quiet day on the course.
