When it opened in 2009 many golfers thought the Bahia Course at Punta Mita in Riviera Nayarit was too difficult -- especially as compared to the resort's beautiful and more playable Pacifico Golf Course. But the Jack Nicklaus design has won them over.

Perhaps no club in the world features more ocean holes than the Punta Mita, which sits on a scenic peninsula 45 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta. Fourteen of Punta Mita's 37 holes have a tee or a green right on the Pacific Ocean. Simply put, Punta Mita is golf nirvana.
Built in 1978 as the first course near Puerto Vallarta, Flamingos Golf sells a different vibe than the flashier modern designs within the region. This is classic, old-school jungle golf. The land glides gracefully over hilly terrain with little visible shaping. Tropical flowers and plants beautify the narrow fairways and croc-filled ponds. Peso for peso, Flamingos Golf remains one of the best values in Mexico.
Even with eight holes on the ocean, the "Tail of the Whale" hole steals the show on the Pacifico Golf Course at Punta Mita, a luxurious resort and real estate development 45 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta. It's not the only gem, however. Fact is, Pacifico plays near perfecto.

It opened in 2002 with several holes along Banderas Bay, but the routing has been altered constantly as the resort has expanded. A solid and challenging resort layout still remains. Not that I would discourage you from venturing into Nuevo Vallarta, Puerto Vallarta or any of the nearby surfside villages, but everything you need is right here on this peninsula on Banderas Bay, including the spectacular El Tigre Golf Club.Not that you should ever get bored playing Pacifico, but the Bahia Course at Punta Mita Golf Club is a nice change of pace and perhaps more difficult. More than that, the views of the ocean are comparable to that of Pacifico. The course more than complements the original, making for a most memorable golf experience.
