No golf course in America has a setting quite like Arrowhead Golf Club, located just south of Denver in Littleton's Roxborough State Park. Opened in 1972 and designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., Arrowhead plays among 300-million-year-old sandstone formations. While short by modern day standards, the course presents a good test of golf with many large bunkers and challenging, fast greens.
Opened in June of 2007, The Golf Club at Ravenna in Littleton, Colo. recently landed on Golfweek's Best Modern Courses list. One trip around this Jay Morrish-designed beauty, and you'll know why, David R. Holland writes. Boasting 111 bunkers and tricky greens, Ravena is a course for serious golfers.
Deer Creek Golf Club, located in the far southwestern fringes of Metro Denver, has a wealth of scenery and geography to keep one busy on an 18-hole journey that traverses protected wetlands, creek beds, rolling terrain, impressive conditioning and some tiered greens. Views from the course include the rugged mountain terrain of the Dakota Hogback -- a long, craggy ridge that separates the eastern fringe of the Rocky Mountains with the Great Plains.
The one-of-a-kind scenery is spectacular enough you might think you're in some remote, national park. But don't adjust your GPS, Arrowhead Golf Club is in Denver's backyard and makes for one of Colorado's most dramatic plays. Set in the Rockies foothills of Roxborough State Park just south of Denver, the course continues to attract a worldwide audience of tourists visiting Colorado's great outdoors.
