Challenging
It was a fun course. I played the tips since it appeared to be a short course on the score card. It played very difficult with multiple blind shots and blind landing areas. The only real downfall for me was the greens. Though they held pretty well they were a little tore up.
Great conditions, play before it goes to 9 holes
Course in great condition. Front 9 is open, the Back 9 is hilly with challenging sight lines. Close to Raleigh and Cary. Twosome let me play through and it was wide open all the way in. Thoroughly enjoyed the round.
Course in State of Flux
With an impending sale of the golf course, the conditions are so-so. The fairways were great, the rough very full and thick. The greens are in very marginal condition....bent grass....getting thin with the summer heat and lots of small weeds throughout the putting surface. Crooked Creek is a good play on a GN Hot Deal....but there are other options in the RTP area that are in better condition for the drive/cost.
nice course
Course was in great condition.
Greens faster on front nine then back nine.
If you are a first timer the card's depiction of the hole layout are deceiving. Overall great course. Challenging shots, need to be able to manage a course.
Playing Crooked Creek
great course and staff - had super time. Back nine more character and challenging.
Great course in great proximity to Holly Springs
Great course, great value, played in 3.5 hours. Very challenging.
elevations were great
what a course cannot wait to play again, staff was real freindly, greens needed ball marks repaired
Course is average for the area
I think the course is selling the land that the first 7 holes and the driving range sit on. They have kept up the fairways and the rough on these 7 holes; however, the greens are not in great shape. You can tell a difference in the speed and the look of the greens when comparing the first 7 holes to the last 11 holes. It wasn't terrible, but it was inconsistent, which made putting a little more difficult than it should have been. If you enjoy putting slow on the front and putting a little faster on the back, then this is the course for you. If you would prefer the greens to be a similar pace and look nice on all 18 holes, then I would advise you to play elsewhere. The only reason I am not recommending this course is due to the fact that they are selling 7 of their holes, which appears that this course will eventually be a 9 hole course. I'm not interested in playing a 9 hole course that is 35 minutes away from me in North Raleigh.
On a positive note, the staff are very friendly and the price isn't too steep for this course.
What happened to the greens???
Very bumpy and slow greens. Have not played here in year or so and they use to have fast and very smooth true greens, these are some of the worst I have palyed in a while. The back nine seemed to be in a bit better shape but nothing like they used to be.
Well done, Crooked Creek! Keep doing it the right way.
I paid more than I usually do for a round of golf, in order to not have to wait in line, because the joint was over-booked and still not be finished within 5 hours. I wanted to find a place that not only was the course in great shape, but the course management/flow of play was important. I got exactly what I'd hoped for. We completed an excellent round in well under 4 hours. WELL DONE, Crooked Creek. We will be back!
Yesterday's play
Awesome day. Started to rain toward the end. I look forward to playing it again, soon.
Good, but expected better.
First time playing this course. From other reviews and the way the course presents itself (internet website, cost, appearance of being a more upper-echelon public course) I expected a little more. The front nine had shaggy tee boxes and very bumpy greens. They were almost diseased or had some issue, it wasn't from aerations for sure. The back nine was much improved, with better tee boxes and greens. Aside from conditions that were up and down, I played the tips around 6,300 yards which isn't too lengthy at all, but position does help. I am a former collegiate golfer and having just decent control over the ball allows you the ability to have a shot at birdie each hole. The par 3s aren't overly challenging, though a few had tough pin locations. The par 5s vary from "reachable in two", to "for-sure 3 shot" par 5s. I lucked out and didn't spend any time in the water hazards or bunkers on the course. My playing partner did a little of both and the sand seemed quality and good to play out of. All in all, the course was decent, not great, not poor...but decent. I plan to check it out again to see how the course is different, if anything changes happen at all.
1st time at Crooked Creek - won't be last
This was my first time playing Crooked Creek. I really enjoyed the course. The winter has been pretty harsh, but the course conditions were quite good in my opinion. The front 9 and back 9 are like two totally different golf courses...and I mean that in a good way. The challenges presented on the front and back are completely different. This course will present challenges for golfers of all levels. The putting green was in great shape. The driving range was nice, and had plenty of grass. The staff was very kind. I would recommend this course to anyone, and I definitely will return.
Challenge and Beauty
This was a pleasant surprise. The course had some terrain that reminded me of mountain golf, right here near Raleigh NC! Some holes present a great deal of challenge (#3 over the water, and # 12 off a mountain side!) and yet other holes provided easy straight fairways to salvage my golf score. I look forward to playing this course again and again.
Crooked creek play
Greens not in the best shape right now . But the club house and the rest of the course was in decent shape when we played . I would play here again for the deal that we were able to get on golf now.
Well maintained course
This course is always pretty well maintained. Pace of play has been pretty good every time I played. The back nine is pretty tough but that is probably just my game. Pricing is a little on the high side compared to rates at other courses.
Slow
It's was a very slow round of golf. Two or three people backed up. Nothing worse than having to wait two or three holders. They should have sped up the slow people. I will not go back.
Call first......
Crooked Creek is one of my favorite courses. However, I made the mistake of not calling the course before ordering from golfnow. When we showed up, the front 9 was closed to aerate the greens. We played the back 9 twice and still enjoyed it.
Great First Time Experience
I am new to the Raleigh area and this was a great introduction to NC golf.
Love this course
We were able to get out after the rain and even though the course was wet it was still in great condition!!
