Good Course conditions considering the weather
We played Crooked Creek a few days after the big snow storm, so all things considered the course was in great shape. Staff was very professional and personable. The course is short by modern standards, but is quite challenging off of the tee - lay up yardages and club selection are critical.
With added yardage, this could be a gem
Played course from back tees. Would be too short from any of forward tees for 10 or less handicap. Front nine is a nice layout and fun to play. Back nine looks like they ran out of real estate. The first par 5 on the back nine, okay but the second par 5 should be made a par 4. Not long enough and layout is poor. Greens can be challenging; local knowledge for shot placement would knock 2 to 3 shots off your round. The elevation changes make the course a nice challange. The par 3 14th hole is excellent challange.
Nice mix of more and less challenging holes
Had a good golf outing, however, there were piles of leaves in the fairway on one particular hole. Drove ball center fairway into leaves and lost ball. I know it's late fall but seriously, piles of leaves should not be an obstacle when rest of course was maintained
Very nice layout. I'd like to play again in the spring and summer seasons.
I played early December, the fairways were brown and the greens had some bare spots. I love the layout and will definetly play the course again.
Overall good course.
Course was in good condition, for this time of year.. Bermuda fairways in full dormancy.. Greens held tho the putting was a little bumpy. 7'th hole is a long..long par 5 when into the wind. .
Great course
Very nice course. Number 12 was the most difficult. Greens in great condition. I plan to play this course often.
Interesting layout
I played the course 10/4/13. The fairways were in great shape but the greens were a bit spotty on several holes. The course was relatively short (I played the second-longest tees). Due to the layout of many holes, you are forced to hit an iron or fairway wood off the tee, otherwise you risk hitting through a dogleg or into a hazard interrupting the fairway. I would have liked more driving holes. Several scenic holes with large elevation changes. Greens are relatively fast with a fair amount of contour.
Great public course, have played here 20+ times.
I've played Crooked Creek a bunch of times now, its really a solid course. I'm not a great golfer and usually shoot a legit score in the 90s and 100s here.
Course: This course doesn't kill you with difficult holes. The front 7 and #10 are the easiest holes (even though #4 has a 1 handicap!?) which is great to get your game started off well without losing too many balls. On the back 9, I REALLY struggle with #12 (par5 after a short par3), but the holes after that are VERY fun due to their challenging nature, but can be defeated even by a novice like me.
The course is usually in decent shape. Its a public course so when traffic is heavy it gets beat up, but nothing terrible. The greens see the most wear, the rest of the course is usually top-notch even in high traffic seasons.
The staff has always been friendly, no complaints there.
The best part is the price via golfnow. Makes the round that much better when I get a good deal!
Nice views.
Course was in pretty good shape, some of the greens were a bit rough but that was because they were worked on recently. The staff there is great, super friendly and easy to talk to. This isn't the hardest course in the word but for the money you could never go wrong.
Starts off fairly easy but then gets quite challenging towards the end
The course has a fun layout, but really isn't very long. The clubhouse is better than most in the region. The course was in pretty good shape overall except for the greens. Multiple greens had various blemishes that needed great attention. I hear they are going to aerate in a few days.
This was a beautiful course.
This is a beautiful course with a few holes that are particularly pretty. The course is challenging but at the same time not so challenging that you do not have a good time. The course is not wide open so its important to be able to hit straight balls.
Lots of variety in this course.
The course has a wide variety of hole styles from wide open to very narrow and then a few holes with big changes in elevation. Fun to play. Lots of rain over the summer and the greens were a little uneven when I played but the rest of the course was in great shape.
Crooked Creek
Tee to green in excellent condition. Greens were spotty and putted a little slower than other visits.
Pace of play was a little slow on the front side behind a foursome that fell behind. Players were being sent off back nine at the turn due to a girls golf team and men's group using the front side. Made for a wait to getting started on the back nine.
All in all, I enjoyed playing CC.
Course was in great shape.
Course was in great shape, but some of the greens on the back nine were a little spotty.
Will test you.
Overall, not bad at all. Got a hot deal for $17. Fairways were well maintained and for the most part the greens were pretty smooth. They were doing some work to the green on 13. The staff was friendly when I was around any of them. There are some open, straight forward holes, some good birdie opportunities, and some holes that will make you work. 7 is a 600+ yd par 5, 8 is a 350ish yd, par 4 with the green tucked into the trees on the right (don't be right off the tee or double bogey stares you right in the face), 9 needs a medium iron to get to the green with a long iron or fairway wood off the tee, 12 is a tricky par 5 that you really can't hit driver off the tee, 14 is a very elevated tee to a green that slopes a lot from front to back, even 18 will make you work with it's 90 degree dogleg left.
Great course
Great course overall. The greens were bumpy but surprisingly fast. Fairways and everything else was in good shape. The back 9 is radically different than the front.
great undulating course.
Great golf course, not so much a shot makers course but placement is definitely key to making a good score.
Challenging layout
A must play. If you like the Neuse you will like this one as well
A few easy holes...several difficult holes.
This course has always been tough for me. Only one really long hole (#7), but only a few holes are straightforward with no hazards. The front is easier than the back. You need to drive up and take a peak on a few of the back nine holes if you have not played it before. The course is usually in good shape (bunkers and greens are usually good). Back nine is more elevated as well with a few REALLY elevated tees.
Has some tough holes
I played well for most of the day, but holes 7, 12 , and 18 ate my lunch. I did find a silver dollar in a sand trap of the only hole I birdied all day. That certainly was a first.
