Castle Bay Country Club
About
Although it is tucked away just north of Hampstead, Castle Bay Country Club will make you feel as though you've been transported to the British Isles. The golf course offers an authentic Scottish-links design that incorporates the natural wetlands of its coastal Carolina location, giving it a truly unique character. The landscape of rolling dunes is covered with native grasses but completely devoid of trees. Tall sand bunkers are strategically placed throughout and there are also expansive waste areas, both characteristics that are true to its links nature. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Accurate shot placement is the key to doing well on this course and just like any seaside links layout, the coastal breezes play a prominent role. Much of the difficulty of the golf course comes from negotiating with the prevailing winds.

Great bar and grille
Tee boxes were awful, lots of goose droppings. Time to put some money into this course. Nice layout!
Course conditions
Course was in good shape, but after .55 inches of rain the day before course was still very wet!
A great day!
We’ve played Castle Bay before. Love the layout and facilities. And even though it was a busy Saturday things moved along fine. We will be back!
Great Course
It's a great course, we had a frost delay the morning I played, but all around a fun course, friendly starters and rangers, I was even offered a free small bag of range balls because of the 1 hour frost delay
Bad review
I walked off the course on hole #15. At the turn we had to wait every single shot for the several groups ahead of us. The Ranger was useless and shouldn’t be on the payroll. In fear of the awful pace play, I would never risk playing this course again. I will be sure to share this experience with as many fellow local golfers possible so they don’t waste their money as I did.
Sincerely,
A local,
Everything I want in a playable course
Fun course that rewards good shots and penalizes bad shots. Well above average condition. Had a lot of fun playing the course.
Castle bay is great, but the last few times I’ve played it has been incredibly slow play.
Castle bay is challenging — but fair! We had a great round.
Challenging and fun!
First time playing but we will certainly return. Carts were great with modern amenities like GOS (which was very accurate) and score keeping.
The course is links style and old school in design. Bunkers are deep, and a few holes required excellent shot placement to stay clear of hazards.
Greens were tough but fair. Course condition was great.
Pace was good…can get a little backed up on those holes where placement is paramount but clears up pretty quick.
We had a great time.
Fun layout, good condition
One huge benefit of there being very little tree coverage (despite it being a housing-development course) is that the edges of the fairways and rough actually have grass. Way too many tree-stuffed courses have nothing but pine straw or dried-out hardpan along the edges. So that was once nice surprise here. Greens were pretty speedy despite being a later afternoon start, and in very good condition overall. The carts were excellent, with GPS units, ball & club wash accessory, and are electric with automatic parking brake. May try to walk this course next time I play, but some of the holes had long distances between green & next tee.
