Castle Bay Country Club
About
Although it is tucked away just north of Hampstead, Castle Bay Country Club will make you feel as though you've been transported to the British Isles. The golf course offers an authentic Scottish-links design that incorporates the natural wetlands of its coastal Carolina location, giving it a truly unique character. The landscape of rolling dunes is covered with native grasses but completely devoid of trees. Tall sand bunkers are strategically placed throughout and there are also expansive waste areas, both characteristics that are true to its links nature. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Accurate shot placement is the key to doing well on this course and just like any seaside links layout, the coastal breezes play a prominent role. Much of the difficulty of the golf course comes from negotiating with the prevailing winds.

Annual Play
Our family comes to Wrightsville Beach every year and Castle Bay is always on our list to play!
Fun course, great layout.
I really like this course and it's reasonably priced for what you get. I like the layout and depending on which tees you play from can give you a different experience. My only recommendation is to provide ice in the coolers provided on the cart. We played and it felt like 100+ and it would have been nice to have some ice!
Beautiful course great experience
Course is fairly open so errant shots are recoverable. Conditions were excellent, though told greens were a bit slower than normal. Nice practice areas and driving range available. Staff was friendly and helpful. Will definitely play there again. Good pricing on Golf Now.
Good day/slow play
Course was in good shape and friendly staff. Played with two other young men that were great. Only issue, played back nine behind a group just learning to play (actually first time 9 & 11). All about learning the game but also made our back nine much longer. Course was packed and then caught by a storm on the last hole.
Not a bad place to get a round or two in! Pace of play can be bad at times but that happens on a golf course. Would recommend but if it’s windy but a couple sleeves of balls.
Great Course, Great Valuw
Excellent links layout. Challenging but not crazy difficult. Greens in excellent shape. very enjoyable round!
Great course- pace of play was SLOW!
Paid peak rate at a time that there were tee times open however they had a tournament that morning that wasn’t finished by our tee time. We were parked on #1 and they let three groups go ahead of us. There were no carts available which didn’t help the tardiness but we teed off 38 min behind our schedule time. Cart girl (Rene) was so sweet and kept us well hydrated. :).
Greens
The greens used to be some of the best I’ve played on, but not so much anymore. I only play there once or twice per year, but this last round left something to be desired. The holes were worn out and the cups and flags were loose.
Great place to play
Pace of play was great and staff were friendly and professional. went through aeration recently and course is coming back great.
Disppointed in Castle Bay
Very disppointed in the course. Greens are not good. Divots and sand everywhere. Fairways are not uniformly cut. Too many single players out there so we ended up having to let through several so the round took longer than expected. We had 3 walkers cut in front of us at the turn so we had to wait and wait and wait for them. There is nobody riding around supervising slow play. Will not be back. Rather pay the extra and play North Shore.
Well kept with great staff
Course was in great shape, greens were a bit slow due to recent aeration, but still nice.
All staff interacts were great, will return!
Always fun
Had a great time. They had just aerated the greens, but the still rolled pretty true. $35.00 is a great deal. Normally $60.00. Course is always in good shape.
A Day at the Bay
Castle Bay is always a fun place to play a round of golf. The practice putting green and driving range are always in good condition. The practice chipping area is good when it is not too wet.
This was my first time playing Castle Bay this year. The greens were very smooth and the ball rolled true on putts. I was expecting the fairways to have more grass by this time of year but was disappointed. It was showing signs of the grass beginning to grow.
Pace of play was not great as it took 4-1/2hours to play…it was a nice day for golf and the tee times were full.
Overall, Castle Bay is a solid public golf course!
