Great Course!
Great course. Friendly staff and starter. Pace of play was slow, took more than 4:20 to play. Conditions were ideal — even with all the rain it was great and greens rolled very true. Only complaint is they are transitioning who runs the food/bar and that wells closed. Bummer to not be able to grab a drink during such a slow round.
Otherwise, great course!
No Bueno
Course in rough shape. Staff not friendly. Permanently closed the bar and restaurant. I think they raised the rates too. Pass on this place.
Two different nines
First of all - the staff was very nice the entire time.
Two very different nines, front nine appears to have been there quite a while. Narrow, small greens, pretty poor design, funky doglegs, overall fair to poor condition. 8 short holes and one very long par five ninth. Would rate one star.
No 10 is a par three over water, pretty much in line with the other holes in the front. Then on No 11, someone is developing new housing and has built new holes for No 11 thru 17. Those holes are overall good, much more modern and in much better condition than the front. Then back to No 18 that is part of the old course. Kind of a funky mismatch of holes overall.
Just went there because we were driving by and it fit our schedule. Would hope there are much better choices nearby.
Nice course
Course is in nice shape. I like the different layouts of holes. Some you can grip and rip. Others you have to be strategic. Always enjoy playing here.
Unreasonably tight and fairway grass high
This course is narrow to the point of not enjoyable. I am a 10 index and have been a 7 known for straight drives. Fairway grass was half an inch and roughs 3 inches plus. Played gold tees at 6,000+. course had 5 par threes and most very long 180-200 and 5 par fives. Greens had plenty of grass and were rolliing about 8-9 which was ok. I would not go back.
Very much enjoyed this course
I played as a single on a Tuesday afternoon. I was welcomed in the pro shop by James (director of golf) and he was super friendly and even walked me outside and gave me the course layout and added some pro tips for some of the holes. He was right....I played from the tips at just under 6,100 yards (par 71) but it felt a bit longer than that. I spent 10 minutes or so talking with (pretty sure) the head superintendent on hole #6, and he too was super friendly. He echoed a common complaint in the golf business these days in that it's really hard to find folks to work; the labor shortage is alive and well in the golf course maintenance world it seems.
But I found the course to be in great shape: greens I'd give 8/10 (rolled very true but just a touch slow as you'd expect with bentgrass in mid-July); fairways 9/10; tee-boxes maybe 7/10. It was the areas that should be out of play that were a little rough around the edges, i.e., bunkers, and some of the other off-the-beaten-track areas. But it was a fun round of golf and I will definitely return.
Nice course…poorly managed
Golf, Beer & Hotdogs…they’re synonymous together. Kind of like popcorn at the movies. How is it the owner of this golf course spends significant time, effort & money to have a course with stunning views, great conditions and an overall feel of a true country club…and a perfectly good 100% completely shuttered restaurant w no way to buy a beer at the turn?? What perturbs me even more is when I asked staff about it, they all kind of shrugged their shoulders and said “I dunno what management is thinking.” Me neither guys…. I understand the whole lack of staffing issue people are dealing with but, this was a serious head scratcher for a guy who’s worked in Food & Beverage for 20 years. It’s pretty darn easy to buy a hotdog roller, put it in the pro shop and load it up every am so that there is SOME option available to hungry players. And the fact that you don’t have canned beer available in your coolers but when you look inside the restaurant you see a full bar with taps…. It just makes me think they’ve got a monkey managing the joint. Actually, I’m told they’ve had several managers come and go in the past 2 years, I believe the number was 3. Guys, get your business together, ya’ll are missing out on EASY income.
Hidden Gem
I live in the Asheville area and truly believe this is the best course under $60/round within an hour of Asheville. Fun layout will test most clubs in the bag, almost always a fast pace of play, smooth greens, and beautiful and unforgiving mountain golf. Cummings Cove is my go to course!
Perfectly Maintained!
Perfect greens that roll true every time! Staff was friendly! Fairways were perfect! A little out of the way but the price reflects that. Only complaint would be be, that they open the snack bar late. Lol
Over the month of July we have received just over 10" of rain. As a result of that we have not been able to mow as frequently as we would like which has resulted in thicker rough than normal. I typically tell new players to not let the yardage fool them, it does play longer than the yardage shows. We think you for coming out and wish you best in your future rounds where ever you play.
