Live 5 minutes from course and have played many times. Since being bought out by WARRIOR GOLF this course had improved vastly. They replaced greens with Sunday Bermuda and covered at night during winter to keep ideal. Then out of the blue this spring they aerated early and killed most of the greens. They blamed the heat, whatever, bermuda loves the heat. I waited patiently for month and a half till they got most of the greens back to okay condition and was just starting to play there again and lo and behold they scalped the fairways with a mower with the blades set to two different heights.. One set scalped and the other which was higher cut really close. This led to dead striped fairways with uneven like stairs grass in fairways. MY ADVICE AFTER 40 YEARS OF PLAYING GOLF IS TO FIRE THE GREENS KEEPER AND FIND SOMEONE THAT KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING OR YOU WON'T SURVIVE. What a shame and waste of a wonderful tract.
Played the course 100+ Times
The course itself over the past year had improved. It was in great shape all winter and last summer. However, I went back on 5/14/18 to play the course and their greens are shot all to peices. They have about 15% grass on their greens, and the rest is sand. No this is not punched or anything, something is taken over their greens and sand was the only option they had. I would advise the course to take a few months of not letting anyone play and redo the greens. When the course is in good shape, it is very fun to play.
Not too good!!
Waited 40 min to tee off. A two some in front of us hit 3 balls of the first tee each. then after that they hit like 4-5 balls each the whole 18 holes. On the back side they teamed up with 4 more players which slowed everything to a crawl. Just had to post something about this because for a sorta nice course the players were rude. As far as the course it is OK at best. Greens hard as concrete. Fairways OK if you like to hit out of grass with gravel underneath. Also a bunch of bunkers were way overgrown with weeds knee high. For them to have put so much work into this place a few years ago it is not to good of a job. Staff is always friendly.
Affordable Quality Golf
This course is 5 minutes from my house and one that has seen numerous owners and conditions over its lifetime. Built on Lake Hickory in an upscale development this course is in a PRIME location. It even closed for awhile and I feared it would be developed and houses built on the land. Then came Warrior Golf that bought the course and redid the greens with Sunday Bermuda and spent a little money on the things that needed attention. Warrior brought this course back and I can't say enough good things about them. The company charges a modest rate and takes care of the junior golfers that want to play there. The layout is tight but fair and makes you hit all the clubs in your bag. I would recommend this course to anyone wanting an affordable round on a well managed course that is always in good shape. P.S. Try Warrior owned Reems Creek in Weaverville, N.C. just above Asheville. QUALITY MOUNTAIN GOLF WITH AWESOME VIEWS AND BENTGRASS GREENS!
This course is an overall 3.5/5. Cart paths: 2.5/5, Fairways: 3.75/5, Clubhouse: 4/5, greens 3.5/5 (full of bermuda grass but slowish), Layout: 3.5/5. Definitely a mountain course feel, with lots of tee shots to uphill, side hill lies. I played while the fairways and greens were dormant, but both are full of grass. This is the type of course that I wouldn't want to play every day, but enjoy playing once in a while.
I was very impressed with this course fun and challenging layout, greens and fairways are in awesome shape and the value for the dollar is a bargain!!!
Not worth the money
Played this course for a friend of ours birthday. We wanted to find a course we've never played before so we figured we would give it a try. Clubhouse is really nice, staff was friendly but overall the course isn't in good shape. Greens were somehow rock hard but so hairy you couldn't read a putt. The bunkers were so tiny and shallow that one of my friends hit the netting underneath the bunker on a shot. The front nine is very congested there are 3 fairways right beside each other. There is one hole where you see the lake unfortunately its also a hole that has two small ponds that look like they're are filled with run off from the housing development. The back 9 is a little nicer but overall it's not worth the 40 dollars I paid
This is now Ole Still Golf Club
I am a member at this course. It is a great course and very challenging. They just reopened this course last spring after being closed down for several years. They have put a lot of work and money into it. Some of the course is a little rough around the edges, but they are working really hard on it. By July this course will deserve a 5 star rating.
