Foxfire Resort & Golf Club - Red Fox Course

The "greens" are mostly dirt, with some sand and grass. I'm surprised the course is open.

Good layout that plays a little longer than the yardage. Greens are not in great shape but that is to be expected at a public course with bent grass in Pinehurst in July. Good bang for your buck if you don't want to pay $100.

The front 9 goes out and back 9 in. The halfway house was not open so make sure you have eaten.

I called to book this a week in advance and asked if they had aerated already or would be before we came out. I was told that they had aerated the week before and that by the time we got down there, we should be putting on fantastic greens. Wow. Between the "cabbage heads", burn spots, and craters from divots being made without repair; I would have to say putting yesterday was dreadful. I used to make a trip to Pinehurst a couple of times a year when I was in my early 20s and Foxfire was definitely on the list. Yesterday ruined that for me. Some tee boxes hadn't been mowed and had some weeds growing up on them. From what I remember to what I saw yesterday, disappointment doesn't do justice to how I felt. I'm glad I got a deal on GolfNow for this place but even that didn't make it tolerable. I don't know what went wrong with this place but whatever it is should be fixed immediately. New management, better superintendent, or maybe just some TLC for this place that used to be top notch may work. Please take the time to bring people back to your course. We saw a max of 10 people on the course yesterday. I get that it was HOT HOT HOT but maybe other people feel let down as much as I do.

This course looks pretty benign on paper! Not so...it will sneak up on you with its length, tough approach shots and shuttle greens.
Don't take that as a warning, just know your game and if you play the right tee boxes it can be a blast!

Nice hidden gem 15 minutes outside Pinehurst. Played both courses, Grey boasting superior signature holes, but I felt the Red was tougher. Played in 3 hours as a 3- some on each. Great layouts and designs. Greens on the slow side (maybe due to summer heat) but rolled very true. Great value for good courses. Only drawback was the attached pub was closed when we finished. Will definitely play again when I come back to the area.

This course is kept very well with excellent greens.
However, it is a challenge in that it is quite hilly with not an awful lot of "flat lies". Other than that, this is great value and a pleasure to play.

Foxfire is one of the older golf clubs in the sandhills area but both courses are fun, in good shape, the staff are always glad that you are there and easy to get along with. If you want to play golf in the sandhills for a great price at two great golf layouts you should try Foxfire. There are two holes that I don't particularly like. The second hole on the Red Fox is difficult because you have water all the way down the left on your tee shot and you have to carry it around 280 to hit driver. So you lay it up with a hybrid (which I tend to hook). Just doesn't suit my eye. The other hole is on the grey Fox and it is the first hole on that hole. It is a par 5 that takes the driver out of your hand. Other than those two holes the courses are a great value and always fun!

Double charged for one of my players and is currently making it less than easy to reimburse me for the round.

Foxfire Grey is the best value for the money. Without question.

I needed to get a practice round in on Saturday prior to playing Pinehurst #2 on Sunday. The course layout was accomodating for this with its wide fairways and receptive greens, A great value for the money!

I played this course for the first time and was not disappointed! It was a day after heavy rainfall and therefore cart path only, but overall the round was great. The greens and fairways were in great shape, and the fairways were only slightly waterlogged in some places--much better than expected. The tee boxes were also in good condition. Overall, excellent. I will definitely return!

The only negative was that the range balls were in poor condition (dirty, some dead and cracked).

My daughter and I played prior to the NC State HS Championship. The fairways were wet and had been over seeded a week or so ago. The greens were in good shape and fast. The traps needed prepping and were not consistent with the amount of sand in them. It plays much longer than the card reads. All greens are up on mounds and well bunkered.

Ok play for the money but a weak layout compared to the grey

Overall golf course, decent conditions. Would recommend friends

Course needs some serious TLC. Lots of hard pan areas. Many sand traps with minimal sand depth. Decent layout, greens OK but overall experience is degraded due to the lack of watering, especially around the greens. Would not be on my list for a return visit.

A great course in Pinehurst area...stopped on way to Myrtle Beach. Fun layout, good conditions, and a 3 hour round...can't ask for much more than that!
