Cold but good time
We played on a frigid 34 degree morning. The course was beautiful, but the bunkers were as hard as a rock. Greens were really good. Would loved to had played not wearing several layers of clothes. Pro Shop guy wasn't the friendliest and didn't tell us that the course didn't come back to the clubhouse at the turn. We couldn't get anything to drink or eat. Would and probably play again next year.
Good Choice
From Maryland, chose this course from their web site. It was a good choice. We played the Red Course. It was fun and challenging. I would recommend if your in the Pinehurst area to play the course. Next year, we'll play the Grey Course.
10 minutes from Pinehurst
Course played in April was pleasing to the eye with green over- seeded fairways bordered by still mostly dormant Bermuda rough. A lot of good driving holes. Greens fairly consistent, fast, and in good shape for this time of year. Pleasant round on a perfect spring day at a reasonable price.
Tough but fair for March weather
The 20-30 mph wind made this course very tough.
I will have to play this course again in milder weather. The staff was very helpful, they used a modified cart rule rather than cart path only due to all the rain that fell on Friday and Saturday.
Good Course
Course in good shape considering time of year and a tough winter. Greens recently aerated but OK. Would play again.
Excellent Course
Great Course with a lot of good challenging but it a way where you easily can find your ball and keep a good pace.
It has my strong recommendation
Best Value for bthe Price
We had an awesome day at Foxfire, Red Course. We played in just under 4 hours and we were high handicappers. The pace of play was perfect and the course was a lot of fun. The best part was the $32 price achieved through Golfnow.com.
Fun course, nice greens.
Well maintained, greens were super, fun course. Worth a trip to play.
Nice golf course. Great pace of play.
Very friendly staff. Course was in better than average condition with decent greens but just a tad slow. Nice layout with interesting holes. We played the forward tees so not too difficult but would be a real challenge from the back tees.
Foxfire Fun
I played the Red Fox cousre mid-November of 2013 and found it to be a nice layout with generous fairways. The course was well maintained and the greens were fabulouse and very true. Well worth the money! Want to play Grey Fox as well.
Great course!
Course is nice! Can't wait to play the Gray Fox.
Greens - A
Fairways - A
Rough - B
Bunkers - (never went in one)
As a long time visitor I was pleasantly suprised by the excellent condition of the course.
I have played at Foxfire for over 25 years with varying changes in ownership and course conditions. At the going rate, this is one of the best values in the Sandhills. We wer first off and played in under 3 1/2 half hours. The conditions were excellent and the greens were some of the best we played all weel. Full of grass and very smooth. The course is very challenging from the blues and is a fair test of golf. If you want a break from some of the overpriced mediocre courses in Pinehurst, give either course at Foxfire a try.
Nice course - slowly game!
the course is in the pinewood - very nice (smells good). We played after 3 Flights of 4 - very slow - very boring!
An open course, very forgiving.
I would recommend this course to anyone from beginner to Pro. We had an enjoyable day.
nice course for good value!
Staff very friendly. Fairways were easy to hit from, and greens were average in speed. I would play it again.
FOXFIRE EXPERIENCE
My wife and I were on way back from the beach. On a whim we checked Golfnow and found a great Hotdeal for Foxfire. Were a little early and they were very nice and let us go on out. I was very impressed by the course and will be back the next time around the Pinehurst area!
Working to get it back in shape
Looks like they're trying to get the fairways built back out wider and the rough to a manageable height. But still a ways to go. Goose grass is taking over several of the fairways and bunkers are gravelly or packed down by rain. The greens rolled ok.
OK deal using hot deal pricing. Not a good deal at regular rate especially compared to similarly priced courses in the area.
Nice course, overall but greens were slow
Our foursome had a good time playing Foxfire. The entire course was in really good shape, and with the exception of the greens being super slow, all of us enjoyed. If the greens had been cut and were rolling, it would have made the round more enjoyable, but I wouldn't rule out returning, especially if able to get a great GolfNow deal ($16/player). The course is a bit of a trek from Raleigh, and we passed a lot of other great courses along the way (Talamore, The National, Pinehurst-pricey, Pine Needles-pricey, MidPines-pricey) but overall, we got a great deal.
Good Course
Greens spotted in some areas, rough very thick. Tee boxes are very thin with grass.
