Golfers Beware
Mooresville Municipal Golf Course runs the risk of becoming too big for their britches. Their goal is set high to become top 25 in N.C. This course closed for a month to repair fairways and greens but it seems like they are still struggling. Greens putt well but bare spots remain. The fairways are sparse and some have crackled areas with no grass.. The greens never really held very well from the start. Golfnow should put an advisory alert on cart paths only for this course. Important to be upfront with that to some seniors or people with health concerns. Dress code should be stated that everyone, men and women need collars on their shirts. I am a woman 12 handicap and as I stood in the pro shop in my $180 Foot joys, Nike skirt and a stars and stripes v neck cotton top, I was told by the manager I didn't look appropriate because I didn't. have a collar on that top. He said you can wear denim but must have collars. This course has a nice practice facility, club house and restaurant but it wont. mean anything if they cant get a grip on their troubled conditions on the course and in their management. Remember where you came from Mooresville Municipal!!
Bring a lot of balls
Admittedly I’m not the most consistent ball striker out there, but the deep rough that surrounds every hole just 10-15 feet off the fairway is a nightmare that makes finding any errant ball nigh on impossible. The holes were well laid out but they might as well have been islands in a lake for any high handicappers. It doesn’t even matter if you watch your ball trickle into the barest edge of that rough, the gremlins and pucks that reside there will abscond with it never to be seen again. But enough about that.
The staff were friendly enough both before and after my round, and the facilities and new cart paths were wonderful. Unfortunately, GolfNow paired a single with my threesome and we were only issued two carts (one for us, one for him) Well, after 5 holes he decided that was going to play on ahead because he had places to be, so we were left 3 to a cart. Not really the Club’s fault but it would have been better if they had issued two carts to the threesome and one to the single.
Otherwise, there were some maintenance issues, beyond just dead spots in the fairways. The bunkers hadn’t been raked in days, and it seems very few of the local players take the time to fix their ball marks.
Lastly, and most irksome was getting to the back nine and playing behind two teens that were taking 15-20 minutes every shot and just messing around hitting multiple shots in the bunkers and fairways. I couldn’t play through or pass them because there was a threesome and a foursome slow playing ahead of them. It took 4 hours to get through 14 holes (1 1/2 hrs to play 11 - 14) and I had to skip the last 4 because I didn’t have an additional 2+ hours to play them.
Disappointed
The course recently reopened after being closed for 3 weeks to “complete” repairs. I think they opened too soon as there were several greens that are in still in rough shape. Also. It was a cart path only round, which I was not told of. I’m a senior and I would NOT have played if I was told up front. They also need to add more water coolers on the course. It’s summer and it’s hot. Should be a no brained
First Timer
Played there for the first time today. Loved the layout, greens were in good shape and beautiful clubhouse.
Expect to play there more this season.
Not at its' best
This is such a great course, when it's right. They recently shut the whole course down for several weeks to make repairs, but they reopened it too soon. Still have one temp green, 3 or 4 greens that are miserably bumpy, and several fairways that no one should be playing on. I love this course, it's my favorite in the area, but it still needs a lot more work.
Fantastic Greens!
Great course and friendly staff! Private club quality greens, excellent practice facility and a challenging course for every skill level.
love playing here but needs work
I enjoy all elements of playing here at Moorseville GC. Value, facilities, excellent carts, layout, food, close to home, etc. The course has some much needed changes and repairs scheduled for this month which will improve the experience even more. RECOMMENDATION - with the hot weather here, the course needs more drinking water stations. NOT vending machines that only take ca$h, but those 5 gallon Igloo water coolers. Pace of play was slow today due to the 90 degree only rule caused by the abundance of rain in the past week.
It sucks for the money
No water on the course, greens and fairways suck for the price
Good stuff
I write this the day after playing Trump National Charlotte just up the road on the lake, which is a Golf Digest top 25 course in NC and is totally sublime. Now what makes Mooresville Golf Club so exceptional is the quality of the course mixed with it’s bargain price. Granted some of the greens have patches of winterkill, which sucks and is unforunate, but there are only a few of those. The greens that don’t have winterkill are unbeatable compared to any public course within 50 miles that I’ve played. I’ve actually never played a public course in any state near this price range with such good greens. And every other time I’ve played here since the club’s $10 million redesign last year, the greens have been spotless and nearly as good as Trumps. I’m sure they’ll resolve issue soon. Regardless I paid $24 for 18, which was a hot deal. But even their standard prices are a great value when compared to, say, Birkdale Golf Course up the road which seems to always be in rough shape and cost $60 or so. Also the driving range balls are literally half the price of Birkdale. The layout of Mooresville Golf Club on holes 1-6 doesn’t really do it for me, but 7-18 are pretty cool. The nearby Larkin Golf Club is to be preferred though in terms of layout, and is also definitely worth playing. Another feature to Mooresville Golf Club is that the cart reminds you to fill up on ice when making the turn which is pretty nice. I hear the new restaurant is actually really good too, at least that’s what I’ve heard multiple Trump members say. I really don’t understand all the recent negative reviews. Probably some old dudes with nothing to do but complain.
Disappointed
I will inform everyone that wants to play here to stay away. It's a shame they make you pay anything to play the course. You have no chance to one putt any green and their are huge gaps of nothing but dirt in some fairways. They built a new clubhouse and pro shop and forgot about the golf course.
Should be told before, when greens are in this bad of condition.
The course is filling in
This was my first time playing Mooresville and I really enjoyed the layout. Right now they are dealing with a few greens and fairways that are filling back in. Bare spots or bumpy spots on about 5 greens. Overall I would say in probably a month or two they will be good to go and if you can get a hot deal here it was well worth the choice!
Might want to play somewhere else
Mooresville has lost about 8-9 of their greens to winterkill. Some are almost unplayable. They told me they are closing the course in June to work on those greens. The problem I had was that they are still charging $54 for a course that's worth around $25 right now. They never mentioned the problems with the greens before I booked. I guess they are trying to get every dollar they can right now to pay for those repairs and that new clubhouse.
Great challenge , great staff , fast greens , I really enjoy playing here
Fun course - horrible greens right now.
The course is fun to play. Front 9 is wide open. Back nine is a little tighter. Facilities, putting green, driving range, staff are great. Fairways, bunkers, and tee boxes were normal. The only problem right now are the greens. They are HORRIBLE. I know it’s early in the season and grass hasn’t come in but the condition of the greens was beyond dormancy. The greens are lightning fast. Almost like playing on cement. Back nine has some grass but front 9 has zero. Wouldn’t recommend playing this course for until late May 2018. If greens come in then definitely worth playing.
Best course in the area.
This is by far the best maintained course in the Mooresville area. Play it at least once a week.
Mooresville Golf Club
This is my second time playing here. I got a great deal on GolfNow. The course was in descent shape considering the weather we have had this winter. It’s a nice layout with a few short “funky” holes thrown in. The greens are what make this course difficult. They were chewed up in places, but very fast. You had to keep some pace on the ball to keep it online. Again, the weather probably hasn’t helped. There was also a lot of play that day, so a lot of spike marks around the holes. That also contributed for a little slow play, but not too bad.
Overall, it’s a fun course to play. I recommend playing, especially if you can get the GolfNow hot deal rate!
Best Public Course Around
Best Course in the area... tremendous practice facilities... absolutely love this place. Tremendous value available as well.
Great Course
I love playing this course. Practice facilities are great. The course is always in great shape. Whenever I’m looking to play this is the first course I look to get a t-time. Great value.
