Great layout. Will be in good shape in another couple weeks
Played after a bunch of rain, so course was very wet, but casual water wasn't really a problem. Was able to play ball down, but making solid contact was a challenge. Greens were in good shape, but fairways and rough were still largely dormant. Give them another 2 or 3 weeks and I figure that the course will be in amazing shape.
If it's your first time playing, a GPS and yardage book can be a huge help. Like any mountain area course, pay attention to the slope around the greens and general flow of the terrain. I had a few time that green looked like it was uphill, but putt was actually downhill
Nice track!!! Low handicap golfers will enjoy!!!
First time playing course and it was in excellent condition from t to green! Excellent turf throughout the entire course! Well maintained! Greens were perfect !
This golf course requires precise course management! The pro shop gave us free yardage books without us even asking! Staff was very professional and very friendly! That's the way people are in the mountains!!!
The course was extremely challenging when we played it due to high winds, 20 to 35 mph gusts! I still enjoyed the challenge, but I would have loved to play it in normal conditions. We had a great time and will definitely play again for sure. We drove a hundred miles to play it and it was well worth the drive even though the weather channel missed the wind forecast by 20 mph!
Stay away from the bunkers at all cost! There are a lot of em , and they are deep!!! This course has a unique design, it's a mountain course with a semi - links style lay out! You will be crossing the creek a lot!!! Enjoy!!!
cross creek
Cross creek was one of the best courses I've played on in awhile. I love courses that have creeks flowing throughout the course esp when it adds to a challenge on the holes. Greens were smooth and putt true.
Snack bar..we got a grilled hot dog with a side... $5. One of the best hot dogs I've had in awhile.
Only complaint I had were the greens were hard...you def couldn't hit it at the flag or it would hit and roll 20 feet past. And the bunkers were a joke. They are strategically placed but they need more sand. Not enough sand in traps to get the ball up. But I wouldn't take either of those off the rating because I enjoyed the course. I will be back again during spring or summer.
Challenging course
The course has many water hazards and forced carries that make it technically challenging... A great test of course management!
Overall one of the best ive played
This was a really fun course to play for so many reasons. The course conditions were excellent, i couldnt find one thing negative to say about the conditions of the course. Fairways, and greens and bunkers all were in pristine conditions. (Ive not played any better greens all year). the fairway bunkers are placed to make you think about where to hit the ball or whether to be aggressive but they're not terribly penalizing... however greenside bunkers are a bear. some very steep bunkers, while being very narrow means you can find yourself having to get a bunker shot straight up very quickly. The layout is a fun one, in that it gives you alot of options. Seems like a course that a bomber or someone that plots around could each hold their own on. Lots of water on the course and bunkers are strategically placed, to make it a shot makers course, knowing where to hit it, but at the same time many of these same holes offer opportunity to be aggressive if you so choose and be rewarded (but also punished if you dont succeed). I put alot of stock in how many options a course gives you, as far as reachable par 5s as well as long ones, or some short risk/reward par 4s, as well as ones where youre grateful just to make par, for example. Along with course conditions, i think those are some things that make it a "fun" course. Id read alot of reviews that mentioned how nice the people/members were, and wondered how you could tell about the membership, but i will say, i came upon two fivesomes in front of me, while playing as a single (the others who had booked same tt with me on golfnow, apparently got there early and went on themselves) and each group was extremely friendly as they let me play through. I know most people cringe at 5somes, but if its their club and their policy is to allow it, i dont feel i can complain. The next foursome in front of those groups allowed me through quickly also, and even invited me back to play scat game the next weekend. Some courses/pro shops treat you differently if you book through golfnow, i guess because they're not getting as much money from you, but the pro shop guys were as friendly and accommodating as anywhere id been in such cases. Just a really nice experience with this place.
Worth the 3+ hour drive
I drove down from central VA to play here on a quite Thursday and really enjoyed my round. The course conditions were very, very good, clean, smooth fairways and greens that rolled fairly. The layout is unique for the relatively flat terrain--I like courses where the holes don't all blend together. Pace of play was not an issue, the course wasn't at all crowded until after I left around 1pm.
The staff on hand was friendly and they have a nice locker room there for freshening up.
Would definitely recommend, I made the drive so I could check NC off my list of states I've played and CCCC was definitely worth the long drive.
Had a great time
Great layout and very friendly staff. 1or 2 greens had some small ares of rough spots but not a big deal. All in all a very nice course!!!
This is a really nice layout
Really nice course a professional layout long bring your A game and bring your big boy club
Course has a good layout
Challenging course for beginner to expert
Cross Creek CC
Real nice course and the man in the pro shop was really nice.
Highly recommended
The course was in great shape, a very fun layout. The front nine and back nine were like 2 different courses... Will play again and again
Awesome Track- Want a rematch!
Great course; very fair, but challenging. It's definitely a course where you want to play with someone who is knowledgeable of the layout, or you plan on playing a few more times. It will kick you in the head the first round and then allow the scoring to come the next few times you play.
Would recommend to anyone in the area. Beautiful.
Very Nice Course
Well conditioned with an excellent layout. The undulating greens can make putting a challenge when you put yourself out of position. I would have rated it 5 for Course Conditions however the bunkers need some work, not much sand in them.
Cross Creeks Several Creeks
Cross Creek was an enjoyable day of golf with friends and the course, staff and facilities could not have been any more perfect. A word of caution, the course could have been named "Cross Creeks" because of clear running waters that thread back and forth across the course. The practice areas were great with driving range, putting green and you need to hit a few shots from the bunkers around the chipping area. Over all, Cross Creek is a five star facility and if you have an opportunity to play, please do.
five stars
Front 9 holes do not have much up and down still very fun to play. Back nine is a mountain style course having up and downs and some blind tee shot. Green rolls great fairway is well maintained. can not complaint anything actually one thing too far away from my home I wish it was near me
Excellent
Great course. Country club atmosphere and facilities. Well taken care of. The only negative was they had many fivesomes on the course.
Great track!!!!! And great members!!!
This is the first time playing this course and it was absolutely fantastic. The local guys I played with were very friendly and great to play with.
When I move to the area I will join the club so I can experience the great times weekly!!!
Great Country Club
This course is in great shape. It is challenging but one can score well with good and accurate drives. Several holes require working the ball. Enjoy your round as I did.
Cross creek
Great course could have been slow as we were a twosome on a Sunday and a lot of fivesoms on the course but one such group let us through on the second hole and we finished in 4 hours. Great challenge and excellent condition considering all the winter kill in the area. Did not eat there but staff let us go out early and they were very friendly and helpful.
