NC Trip 5 - Pinehurst 6

Pinehurst No 6 is different than the other Pinehurst courses we played. It's away from the main property, and tucked into a neighborhood. Most holes are lined with houses (and OB) on left and right. The clubhouse is small, and the practice areas aren't much to write home about.

That all sounds like a recipe for not a very fun day, but the layout is still a lot of fun. It's much more typical parkland style golf, as opposed to the linksier/sandy style of say No2 or No4. It's not a bad change of pace.

There are some nice elevation changes, and a little water here and there.

We hit this course as the second half of a 36 hole day after playing No 2. It was a much more laid back round and this course fit that vibe perfectly. It's a pretty average course overall, but still very enjoyable.

Pretty amazing for the 7th or 8th ranked choice at Pinehurst!

Thoroughly enjoyed #6 from the Blue tees at about 6500 hundred yards. Not a bad hole on the course and some of the better Par 3's you will find. I have only played #2, #8, #3 and now #6. #2 and #8 are definitely a notch above, but this is a really beautiful layout with a great mix of holes. Course conditions were perfect!

#6 leaves something to be desired

This was our second round of the Father's day trip, i had food poisoning from the night before (beware of the aleing golfer). We had asked for a caddie but a buddies trip asked for a handful of caddies so ours went for a walk with them. the starter was non existent at the tee box. We sat at the chipping area and he had mentioned that there was a couple groups in front of us, and after that he disappeared.

#6 reminds me of Spyglass, The course has a nice change of elevation and dogleg tee shots.

We played right before the course was closing to change the greens out.

With the timing of the course being built, there are quite a few houses that surround the golf course, which I did not enjoy.

One nice thing about the Pinehurst golf courses is the bunkers are all same from a sand depth perspective.

Best course of the basics

This is the best course between the basic courses of #1,3,5,6. It is not at the main resort, but is only a short, 5 minute complimentary shuttle ride from the resort. Course has great views and challenging holes and is always in great shape since it is away from the traffic of the main resort. Great to play in one day along with #1 or #3.

Great layout, great condition

Unlike No 2 this course is a lot more forgiving for the average golfer. With built up rough and greens that aren't like tabletops No 6 is a far more playable course of the 8 at Pinehurst. There is still plenty of trouble on No 6 including a fair amount of OB thanks to houses on the course and several bunkers that will test your sand game. #9 is one of the most scenic holes on the course looking down from the tee to a well bunkered fairway and an interestingly positioned tree to the left. Holes like this make No 6 one of my favorites I have played at the resort, a list that now included #'s 2-4-5-6-7. The only negative to No 6 is the price, we played 6 two days after playing 5 and with 5 being half the price I would recommend playing 5 if you are price conscious and 5 gives you the benefit of being at the actual resort clubhouse. In the end all five of the courses I have played at Pinehurst are great in their own way and No 6 ranks near the top of all of the courses I have played in the Pinehurst area.
