New To Area
Great course for slightly higher handicappers. Nice to be able to get a couple of pars instead of struggling to get a bogie on some other local courses. Course was in good condition for serious dry and hot weather conditions. Plan on playing this course many times again.
Greens - well, they’re green
Very slow pace. No ranger in site all round, though the group in front was playing some best ball game and driving the length of the hole and back several times. Incredibly frustrating and slow.
I've played at RGA multiple times over the past year. Despite it being a shorter course, the layout is top notch in my opinion, and it really makes you earn every stroke.
The main issue has been and still is the course conditions. The greens are riddled with dead spots, bumps, lumps, weeds, and more. Multiple putts literally bounced like little chip shots after making contact with the ball. The fairways also need a lot of work as they also have lots of dead spots, weeds, and uneven growth that often resemble the rough more than a proper fairway.
Hopefully, now that we are coming out of the winter, the conditions can show more improvement, because the course really does have a lot to offer.
Welcoming but greens are bad
Friendly- ushered to members 9 - which was better condition than public 9 we finished on.
Greens appear to have fungus. Players have quit repairing ball marks too.
Fairways & Greens
Great staff, great location, terrible greens and fairways. Good place for beginners, or if you’re looking for cheap golf. IMO, that’s all this course would be good for.
Okay Course
Last few rounds played have been very slow paced. Some holes running on a 2 or 3 foursome backup. Cart keeps reminding you that you are behind pace but it never addressed. One of the few course I have see that allows walkers during the heavy parts of the morning / early afternoon.
Tee boxes need A LOT of attention...!!!.
Overall though I do enjoy playing rounds at RGA!
Great Old Track
This is a well-maintained forgiving track that has been enjoyed by Raleigh golfers since 1929. Will upgraded course maintenance, new gps-equipped carts, and full use of three 9’s. Staff friendliness, well stocked grille/snack bar, and comfortable places to 19th hole inside and out. Only lacking a driving range, this has been my go-to course and I highly recommend it.
Always slow
Greens were in the worst shape I have ever seen them
Met expectations
Given that it's a pretty busy, public course and we're in the fall/winter season, the course is in decent shape. Tee boxes are a bit chewed up but I didn't expect perfection with the recent rain and frost. Easy walking course. For the price, it's worth it.
Putting in a cow field
This is a great course to play for the average or above. Sadly the greens have gotten so bad that keeping scores lower are hampered by such bad putting surfaces.
RGA is a solid course as always. The conditions overall were pretty good, but the greens were certainly in rougher shape than usual. They had lots of bald spots, pitch marks, blemishes, and rough bumps. Putting at RGA often feels very frustrating as the greens often behave in a seemingly random fashion, and even when you do hit a great putt with the right read, the bumps and rough shape of the greens will make sure to throw your ball offline.
Fixing the quality of the greens and adding in even a simple hitting mat and net station, would really take RGA to the next level.
