Loved it!
Had the opportunity to play here through the Carolinas Golf Association as a guest. Unfortunately holes 11-14 were closed due to a record amount of rain earlier in the week. Clubhouse was really flexible as far as playing 1-4 again or whatever we wanted to do.
Course itself is great-smaller and winds through a neat neighborhood with a variety of home styles that were fun to look at as opposed to cookie cutter housing developments. The second 9 looked like it had a few less houses on it, but again we were unable to play that due to the flooding. They just had a couple of tournaments up there so greens were a lot faster than I was used to. Rode in a cart, but saw several walkers in front and behind us-would be a good walk with lots of land movement. That also leads to a lot of uneven lies even in the fairway which makes it challenging, but keeps it fun too. I wouldn't call it a narrow course, but accuracy here matters more than just blasting off the tee.
We loved playing here and really hope we have the opportunity to go back. All of the members we talked to were welcoming and friendly. Pro Shop had some nice items and food in the grill was really good too.
A Course that NEVER Disappoints
This Donald Ross design course offers a variety of challenges. There are holes that you can chose to attack or lay back. The greens also offer a variety of challenges. Some pin locations you can go for and others the approach shot has to be calculated. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. Even if you are not a private member food and drink can still be purchased. All in all, this course will never disappoint.
Another Ross course that DOES NOT disappoint
CC of Salisbury is an incredibly fun layout, with classic Ross features. Water only comes into play on one hole. Most of the difficulty comes in avoiding lots of strategically placed bunkers and false fronts. The greens are well undulated, but not as severely as some Ross designs. Greens were rolling really well and showing no signs of stress, especially for bentgrass greens in the middle of summer. One cool feature about this course is that there is only about 200 yards difference between the black tees and blue tees, but most of the black tees are positioned at very different angles. Several holes play virtually the same yardage, but require completely different shots.
