Decent value but not for $80
Course was ok. Beautiful layout and challenging. Sand traps are unplayable. Could probably use some TLC. Played for about $55 which is max I’d pay for this course in condition it is in.
Beautiful course; terrible condition
This was a resort-style course with beautiful views and surroundings. Unfortunately the course condition was horrible. All bunkers were overgrown and unkept in dire need of sand. The tee boxes were in very bad condition and the fairways were also rough.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. But at $90, it was not worth the price. Very sad.because the area was breathtaking.
Good layout but poor condition.
Good staff and layout but bunkers were unplayable. Didn’t even have rakes. Greens had been aerated and sanded, which was known.
Sad Shape
We bought a home near this course in 2020 and have played it each year. The first time, I lost 2 balls in the fairway. We stopped playing after the 12th hole because it just wasn’t fun. The course was is horrible shape. The best thing about this place was the on site restaurant, that now seems to be permanently closed?? We frequented it regularly. I decided to give the course another chance today. I will say the fairways were in much better shape. The greens have recently been punched and struggling to come back. The sand bunkers appear as if they haven’t seen a rake in 20 years. The tee boxes are covered with weeds and high dandelions. It’s such a beautiful place, and layout it superb. I love mountain golf but this place still has a long way to go. It seems as if this was a gem back in the day, but has fallen into rough times. I’ll still give it another chance, maybe next year. $90 per round is astronomical for the condition of this place. M
Our Favorite Place to play
Not super busy, as a newer golfer enjoyed the course immensely. Fairways are in great condition, they just aerated the greens and laid down some heavy sand, greens were slow. The lady at the front desk was super helpful also doubled as the bartender, pleasant to talk with and gave us some very useful tips to play the course.
Pretty course but needs work
Unfortunately we booked about a week after the greens were aerated and topdressed. Wouldve been nice to have a warning on golfnow about that. We would have booked at another course if we knew that. Also paying full price in that situation isnt cool. Bunkers are in really bad shape which was the worst part about the course. Fairways were all good and maintained. Nice holes with good scenery such as waterfalls. Island green par 3 was a sweet hole. Overall though for the amount paid it wasnt worth it.
Beautiful course
Loved playing this mountain course with all the rolling hills and waterfalls. That also made it a little challenging. The greens had been aerated and sanded so all greens were white. Lovely course, friendly staff, and I would definitely play it again if I were in the area.
Great Mountain layout with breathtaking views
This course should be bumped up in the Golf Now system IMHO. OK, the traps could use a lot of sand and TLC, but otherwise, for the time of year, the round was great fun and very affordable. I would play here anytime I have the chance for the money.
Challenging Layout
Enjoyed playing this course even though I didn’t play all that well. Challenging layout and outstanding views. Fairways and greens were in ok condition for early spring. Traps are deplorable! Don’t hit out of the them if you value your equipment or your body. However, would play there again.
Nice course, friendly pro shop
The woman in the pro shop was very nice and helpful and the course was in good shape.
Poorly Maintained
Sans traps have no sand or maintenance . No tee boxes out.? Why.? No spring clean up. Why.? Branches everywhere.. Sad. Used to be in much better condition for early spring play.
Great Course - challenging & fun
I had a great time on this course today. Freshly mowed with fairways and greens in great shape. I really enjoyed the views and the elevation changes throughout the course. The golf carts were clean and strong with plenty of power to make it up the hills. Lots of really fun holes. Staff in the pro shop is very friendly as well. I’ll be back for sure!
good carts and paths-course needs work
The Sapphire National course is a challenging layout to begin with. given its significant topography and numerous stream crossings, etc. When you play this course for the first time, you really need to drive up and look ahead because there are hazards you will not see from the tee. The course difficulty is compounded by the poor condition of the sand traps which have not been repaired/refurbished in quite some time. The footprints and ruts in the traps make them more than difficult, they are pretty much unplayable. it is peak fall foliage season with the leaves falling and although the foliage color was outstanding, unfortunately there were a lot of leaves in the rough areas and on several holes the fairways also had a thin coating of leaves. As a result, we spent a significant amount of time looking for our golf balls amongst the leaves. Several balls were abandoned because we just could not find them amongst the leaves.
The $90 rack rate for the course is not warranted with the course in its current condition. Using TeeTime we play for $65 but even that was too much for the course in its current condition.
Nice public course in an area where most are private
Played in late October so fall leaves occasionally made finding the ball a challenge, but the colors were spectacular.
Bunkers needed some work, but greens were in nice condition.
I will play it again!
Mountain Golf
A great out of the ordinary golf experience for a Floridian. Play here 4-6St times a year. When we play here we are not concerned with score. We just enjoy the challenge of having to hit shots we are not accustomed to hitting! This fall the greens were best I’ve seen them. Because the bunkers are not maintained, we take a free drop. Just enjoy the challenges, the views, and the experience of mnt golf!
