Nice but overpriced
Enjoyed playing course. Only issue with the course was the sand traps were unkept (growing grass and not much sand) and played more like a waste area. Seemed to be intentional.
Must Play
I was pleasantly surprised as the condition of the course was so much better than some of reviews. Fairways great, greens ok. But how can you beat the beauty of the views and elevations of course! ….It’s stunning… just go out and ENJOY! Carts were great too and there are restrooms on the course. Someone posted there were no facilities.
Sand traps need work, greens were very difficult but course has gorgeous views! Shocked the restaurant was not open on a Saturday afternoon?!?
Ok course
Bunkers were terrible, weeds in the bunkers
Course is nice , long drives between holes
Never saw a ranger or cart girl. No rest rooms on the course
Allowed group of 6 to play!
Everything going well until 9th hole when we ran up on 6 golfer playing together. 2 golf groups in front of us quit soon because of incredible slow play We stuck in and by hole 18 the threesome in front of us joined the 6 to make it a 9some. Over 5 hour round. No marshals to prevent this fro happening.?
Challenging!
While not long, the course is tree lined on all holes, with major elevation changes. Most of the greens have difficult slopes if you are in the wrong place, so it is very difficult from those places. The only real downside is the sand traps are not well maintained, there aren’t even any rakes. Just improve you lie with no penalty and enjoy the rest of the game. Be sure to have quite a few balls if you tend to miss fairways!
Had an awesome day
I’m from Texas but visiting with family in North Carolina in Lake Toxaway and decided to play at sapphire golf course. We had an awesome time, it was a beautiful day. Great weather the course was beautiful, just an overall great experience!
Bunkers lacking
Incredible course we played at great deal fairways greens were incredible and tough! But to pay full the bunkers had zero attention not even sand just grown up hard sand mud and vegetation
Review
Beatuiful course and layout but not maintained well enough for price. Staff were extremely friendly and approachable
Nice challenging course
Great clubhouse and great staff.
Very convenient to Mountain Falls.
Only negatives: no driving range or practice green
Great course
I was the second off the tee. The group ahead played the first hole fast and I did not see anyone until the 17th hole.
Great layout. The bunkers are in need of serious work but fortunately I never was in one. The greens were slow with the dew but sped up to average as the sun burned the dew off. Two greens are still coming back from aeration.
Overall, it was a fun course. Bring lots of ball since hitting of the course into the woods or brush usually is a loss ball.
Incredible views
We played this course as part of a visit to Highlands. The views and layout were incredible. Really tough par 3s with elevation, water and hillsides coming into play. Par 4s and 5s had wide open fairways with very tough greens.
Bunkers aren’t maintained at all but the overall course was so spread out and well integrated into the mountains that it was worth it.
Pace of play suffered b/c it was cart path only with a number of older and slower players in front of us that didn’t let us pass.
Nice layout / poor condition
Wanted to like it, but cannot recommend.
Greens bumpy & slow.
Fairways muddy without rain.
Traps full of weeds and rocks- sand long gone.
Paid $65 / worth $30 tops
Seasonal Renter
We pay $68 because we have an amenities card. It’s the only public course in the area. They don’t maintain the sand traps. The tea boxes are in horrible condition. The greens have gotten better this year, but still need improvement. If only they put some money into the course, not sure what their budget is. They can’t even find anybody to run the restaurant it said, it could be a real first class facility if somebody was to take it over and manage it properly
Overpriced
For condition of course this should cost $45 not
$90
Needs improvements
This course has great potential if operated by professional course manager. Sand traps horrible, tee boxes need grass and greens very bumpy. Very overpriced for conditions.
10 hour round?
Six sum in front of us. 37 minutes on the fist hole. Eventually skipped a hole and got around them. Course does not monitor speed of play or have good management. Traps are mostly hard red dirt and gravel. Played Sapphire National because it was close to the house. Won't make that mistake again.
Expensive course
For the price you pay, you would expect a lot more. The layout is great but condition of the bunkers, tee boxes and some greens are definitely not worth it. Just a shame they know it is the only public course around.
