Great local course
Very nice local course, some nice challenging holes. Pace of play was excellent even with State tournament event. Value excellent for Pinehurst area.
An absolute great course all around. Greens were perfect and the rest of the course is in good shape as well.
A surprise that was good
Arrived at the course and hit balls, not a particularly nice range, but at the first tee we forgot all about it. The course was a gem of a layout and in very good condition. I was able to shoot my hdcp. but only because I played the shorter tees. Overall a great day.
Fun Course
Greens were firm and fast and required an accurate shot to hold. Greens and fairways were in good condition. Pine needles off the fairways sometimes gave you a chance to recover from a bad drive. Some long and interesting par 5s. Most par 3s were short irons. Overall, a fun course that I'd like to play again.
Solid
Everything is in good shape, excellent for the money!
Fun but challenging
Played the Pines Course on a Sunday morning. Had a 9:15 tee time as a twosome. Asked if we could go off a little early since we were ready and not a soul on the first hole , tee box or putting green. Was told they were booked solid and we would have to wait until our time . So , as we wait, a foursome finally goes to the first tee , then a threesome , and then my time. So , needless to say , we pretty much waited on every shot for nine holes, until we asked the threesome to let us play through as they were all looking for balls. Other than that....,a fun round
Decent Course
The layout is nothing special, decent shape, greens were a little furry, but to be expected with a mid afternoon tee off. Pace of play was brutal since I got behind a group of guys who thought they were qualifying for the PGA tour... After playing here, I understand why it was only 18 bucks on a weekend when everywhere else was packed due to the amazing weather conditions. I would probably pass if I only had this course to choose from again...
Jim
Played in afternoon so course was not crowded. Course in good shape. Greens were excellent, very quick. Good value for the money. Staff is always excellent.
Does the job
Good course. Long. Was hitting everything I had all day long. Can be hilly. Course design flows with the land very well. Greens are turtled a bit and are difficult to hold. They are not too fast and have a good roll. Putts go straighter than they appear.
Two par 5's on the course are demonic. Truly difficult, long, challenging, creations of sadism. Still, even though it's tough to score on them, they are majestic to see.
Needs more amenities and culture around the clubhouse. Has the feel of a real regulars course. Older crowd. But, don't be fooled, they play fast.
Nice course
The course is in great shape. The greens are perfect but firm. Had a very enjoyable round. Will definitely play again when in the area.
Pines
Generous fairways and firm greens. Champion Bermuda greens mean ball rollout on approach so take this into consideration when making club selection.
A little slow but enjoyable.
Tee boxes and fairways were average for the area but the greens were outstanding! Very slow round starting at around 1:30 but otherwise, a great experience.
Great little course!
Played The PInes with my wife and had a great round. Nice layout with excellent greens. My favorite hole was #5. Made a boogie there but quite an adventure. Will definitely play again the next time we are in the area.
Overbooked, slow pace of play, poor service, staff doesn't care
Pace of play here was terrible. 1 hr/15 mins to complete 3 holes. No ranger. Called golf shop from course to see why play was so slow. They said that they would send someone out to check. Never heard back from them. Three groups on most holes. Finally told reason was that there was one slow group and they did not want to say anything to them because they only had a few holes left to play. The result 70+ other having a lousy time on a rather average golf course.
Their reason that one slow group was the issue is ridiculous since all the holes behing were now slow and congested so they had 40 slow groups as a result and the course would never clear out. Left after 3 h ours and 7 holes.
In the Sandhills there are a lot of options to play golf. Whispering Pines should be at the bottom of the list. No rain check or credit offered to come back.
Called Golf Now customer support and they were not helpful. Basically a waste of money for four tee times and poor service.
Ok value, poor pace of play
I played the pines course and would definitely would not pay over 40 bucks for a round here. The course conditions were decent and pace of play was terrible. No rangers out to keep anything moving and it seems like tons of retired folks were just driving around looking for gaps to jump into. You know they aren't going to drive around forever. Eventually I'm sure they just forced their way onto the course and ruined pace of play.
Also, the back tees were marked way up. They must have taken a couple hundred yards off the course. I just used the back tee box anyway.
With so many other courses close by you can go ahead and skip this one.
