improving
mbcc is hopefully turning the corner to become a reasonably priced semi private (only one of two remaining in metro Wilmington) course. substantial improvement over three weeks prior and happy to hear that it is remaining an 18 hole course. may switch my membership to mbcc
Weedville
The worst course I’ve seen in a long time. Weeds everywhere, from tee box to green and everywhere in between appears to be maintained by a blind 8 yr old. Horrible!!
Bad shape
The entire course is in bad shape, the tee boxes were not mowed for maybe a week and were mostly weeds. The fairways were were not much different, we were hitting our second and third shots from dirt most of the time. The greens were fast and were in need of attention as well. Although the layout is challenging, but I won’t play it again until they repair the entire course and would not recommend it to anyone.
hope it stays open
MBCC is a great semi private course in ILM - just one of three remaining on the peninsula that allows everyday people to afford the game. Since Echo closed, it is one of the three or over the bridge to BC unless you have big bucks to afford membership at PVCC, Landfall, Porters Neck et al.
MBCC needs some work as even tee boxes are overgrown with weeds. Greens are FAST and fairways narrow so positioning shots is very important.
I played fist nine with no one in front of me and was shocked when a three some suddently appeared on 10 t box. Guess the pro shop wanted to start people on both - would have been nice had thery not done so.
Planning to go back and walk 9 or 18 and HOPE thi one survives the developer cat!
There no longer appears to be any course maintenance
I played this course several years ago and recall it was pretty nice. Arrived to play this time and the pro shop had been converted to a pool room and I had to check in for golf at the bar. Even worse was the condition of the course where fairways and tee boxes only had patches of grass. Honestly some of the bunkers had more vegetation than the fairways. I will not play here again unless there is a major renovation.
STAY AWAY
The Course was in HORRIBLE shape. NO GRASS to be found anywhere. Looked like it hasn't seen water in a year. STAY AWAY
Course Looks Bad
This was a great course when I played it 2 years ago. It was in very good shape. Sunday (4/1) I went over to the course to use the driving range. There is a pool table in the what used to be the "Pro Shop". I didn't see a lot of merchandise and all golf transaction are handled in the bar area.
The staff was very friendly and they do have a cart attendant that will bring a cart to you in the parking lot or give you a ride to clubhouse if you're walking.
I took a picture of the practice green as I walked by and posted it here. I know it's been a tough winter and as you can see, the practice green is in sorry shape.
The driving range was in a similar state. The hitting area was about 75% sand and the landing area itself looked very barren. It's all summer grass and I don't there there had been any attempt to over-seed any of it.
Since I wasn't playing, I asked someone who was walking off the 9th green how the course looked and he said that it looked like they had run out of money and were letting the course go.
I'm not sure what the story is; bad winter or lack of funds, but the course is in sad shape these days.
Never Again
Booked a pre-paid tee time. Due to GPS error was a few minutes late arriving. Was told 3 hiurs later would be the earliest they could work me in, but no offer of a refund was made. If they had an issue with the discounts offered by GolfNow, I wish they would just say so rather than make it so obvious in other ways. I’ll never book there again...on line or off!
This course used to be in great shape. It looks like they haven't put any money into it in a long time. Live in town and probably will never go back.
Terrible!
This is possible the worst golf course I’ve ever played. The conditions of the course were boarder line unplayable. Not suitable for a beginner. The pace of play was good because we were the only dumb people to play.
Pathetic is the only word I can use to describe this property. What an injustice the proprietor has imposed upon the local homeowners. To add insult they increased the rates. Nothing but dirt and dead plants.
Challenging golf course. Some of the tee-boxes needed some help. Greens were excellent.
Great Day!
Perfect day for my husband and I....December temp was 70 with sun and course wasn't busy. The only problem was the pace. The front was a bit slow because we waited for foursome in front of us (they didn't play back). The twosome behind us played the forward tees which made the back more uncomfortable because they were always waiting for us. This was also the case on the front but the foursome held us all up so we didn't feel we were to blame. Because the course was so slow it seemed unnecessary for everyone to be held up or feeling rushed. However, we would like to play here again. Good challenging course and for December, good conditions.
Not worth it
The course is not very well maintained. The greens were nice but everything else was not maintained.
Course in horrible shape. Iplaed here every time I visit the area, gets worse each time. Understand they will close by next April, such a shame it got this way. Too bad the county won't make a go of it.
