Saint Albans Golf Club
About
Saint Albans Golf Club in Ohio is a public course that provides a casual atmosphere and a relaxing round. It is popular for its affordable rates and excellent conditions. The layout is fair and not overly challenging. It was designed to be player-friendly course with no hidden hazards. The design does take advantage of the landscape's rolling countryside and numerous ponds though. There are five water hazards that come into play on nine holes. Slight undulations make the greens and fairways interesting and there are also many strategically positioned trees coming into play throughout. The golf course's signature hole is the par-4 10th. It is one of the trickier holes, requiring a shot to a large green that is protected by a meandering creek and a tall cottonwood tree.

Well worth the drive
I played nine but can't wait to get back for more. My son and I played at 10 am and finished in about 1 hr and 30 minutes. The course was in nice shape, given the we Spring we've had. Very friendly and accommodating staff. My friend, Roman, recommended the course. Nice job, Wynn. I'll be back.
One of the greatest values around!
It was a beautiful day on a beautiful course!
Course was drained fairly well considering all the rain we've received in the past couple of days. Grass was in fantastic shape for being this early in the season.
No ball washers, but we did have a freeze warning the previous night.
Overall, a great experience.
A fun change of pace course
It's a decent course that is fun to play occaisionally. St. Alban's has potential to be a very nice course if they will put a little more into fertilizing and watering the grass and greens and improving the traps.Holes 10 & 17 both have substantial drops of elevation in the fairways making them very scenic and fun to play.
Election Day Golf
Saint Albans is one of our favorite local courses. From tees to greens the course was in very good shape for the second week of November. And when we hit bad shots, that's what we reminded ourselves, we're still golfing in November...The weather wasn't perfect, but the rain held off until we were finished. Hot chocalate at the turn was perfect!
Golf review
The pace of play was fast and the course condition was good. Nice to play November 2 in shorts. Had an enjoyable round of golf.
What Happened?
This is one of my most played coursed over the last 10 Years, with my golf league being at this course for the past 4 years. I played this evening, the course is the worst I have ever seen it. I know ownership has changed hands, and the previous owners have to be crying at night to see the condition of this course. The fairways have dead throughout, you had to roll your ball sometimes 10 yards not to be hitting off of dirt in the middle of the fairway. This course was always in great shape, if this does not get fixed, my league will be moving for sure.
"Did you play 9 holes?" should be changed to "Did you play just 9n holes?". I played 18 holes, so yes, I played 9 holes.
We play St. Albans at least once a week. Well maintained, friendly staff, good rates, and a killer chopped ham sandwich!
Disappointing
I have played this course a lot over the years, but have never seen it this bad. Fairways were bad had to move your ball all the time to find grass to hit from. If it would rain they would be a muddy mess! Cart paths are crumbling. Course is need of repairs and attention. Very disappointing was one of my favorites, but not now.
Good value
Wide open, got to use my driver a lot. Fairways could use some attention but for the price not bad.
Practice you putting
St. Albans is an excellent course out in the country side...... The lay out tends to favor the right to left hitter, but there is a tough dogleg to the left. Elevated greens add to the challenge. We noticed that the greens were very undulated causes several breaks in your putt. The greens were fast so most putts went by the hole. One can score well if they stay in the middle of the fairways... Trees line each fairway, need I say anymore. Most par 5's are reachable in two... Enjoy your round, we did.
Very nice course
This course has always been my favorite ever since it opened. It is moderately challenging, but overall it is a great course for beginners and of course some much better players. Only a few holes a club decision needs to be made outside of your normal distance. Namely holes 10 and 11.Greens are always in great shape.
Good value course - worth the drive
Got a hot deal so decided to give this course a try. I blew through the front 9 as a single in about an hour and a half. Back nine bogged down with several senior foursomes, but still got out of there in under 4 hours, so not bad.
Course is in good shape/not great. It won't surprise anyone -given the price or location - that this is not resort golf, and the fairways were a little hairy and bumpy, but minimal weeds and overall pretty well kept. Rough wasn't much of a penalty and greens reasonably true, although a lot of subtle break at the hole which made it difficult for a first-timer to score.
Track is a decent layout with a few interesting holes that will challenge the average/intermediate golfer (that's me), but also a great place to bring a beginner as there is very little water/sand and the pace is already a little on the slow side.
Special thanks to the owner who found my (not inexpensive) watch in the cart post-round and returned it. Honesty is a virtue and it's very appreciated.
Poor pace
Pretty cool little course. Unfortunately, it took me 3 hours to play the back nine due to the 3 people in front of me. Who took far too long to play the holes. Wish the pace of play would have been better. But due to the slow pace I couldn't really enjoy the course all that well.
Round of the Year a 38
Yes, no one will care I shot a 38 with 2 birdies, 1 eagle and a 1 of those birdies coming on a majestic 8 iron from 165 yard par 3 to 2 feet and consumed 3 Yuenglings, but here we go...
I like these type of courses with everything in front of you and no trickyness off the tee. The front 9 gives you just that and GPS on the GN app really helps as some elevation changes do offer some blind approach shots. I hear the back nine is a little more blind shots but back to my experience. Hot dogs were good, beer was cold and delicious and pace of play on our 9 was perfect. For first 4 holes it felt like we were alone teeing off at 4:52pm.
The layout is a good collection of holes with easy starter hole and let's you hit drive to get after the green at times on some other holes. no real extreme dogleg and only punished by spraying the ball off the tee if you land under or behind a tree, evergreen or leafy.
Greens I thought were rolling pretty true but they were not aesthetically a perfect ten with some bald spots but nothing too crazy which caused ball to not roll true close to the hole. Go play this course and check out GolfNow for good deals on every tee time available.
Nice layout
Played this course in 2 and a half hours. Rough was a little high. But fairways we're ok and greens rolled great. Am planning on playing this course again.
Beautiful course
Truly one of my favorite courses to play in the Johnstown area. Staff is amazing the course is simply beautiful, and I find myself wanting to take pictures instead of teeing off. Only downside is some of the older gentlemen playing the course will not let you play through. Other than that make the trip to this course you will not be disappointed
Challenging Holes, Great Value
The course has several memorable holes that really challenge the golfer including Hole #10 and Hole #18. The staff was great, and the clubhouse looks very nice. It was a gorgeous Sunday weather wise, and they did a good job getting everybody teed off as quickly as possible. If you have not played the course before, you need to get out and play. Great value!
Very Nice Surprise
I wasn't sure about this course after seeing some of the early reviews, but decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did. The only thing I can complain about is pace of play. There were a lot of seniors on the course and one group in particular was jamming things up. Someone should have asked them to let groups play through, but it was a beautiful day and I wasn't in a hurry.
They have a nice clubhouse/pro-shop with food and drinks and the staff was very friendly. The tee boxes are all in very nice shape and I really liked the layout. There is great scenery with several small ponds and wetlands, and there's a pretty stream flowing through as well. The greens were very, very good for an inexpensive public course. I hit longer irons into several greens and they all held very nicely, and they putted fast and true.
I played the blue tees and that made for a long course since it's soft at the moment with no rollout. I think even the better golfers in the area would find it challenging, but beginners could enjoy it as well.
