A nice day of golf at Deer Ridge GC
Beautiful golf course but very slow play due to too many low skilled golfers on the course and no ranger moving things along. Took nearly three hours to play the front nine. Course in great shape and challenging holes and greens as usual. Play continued slow on the back nine although several of the slow players finished their rounds after nine holes.
Great course but needs a ranger to keep things moving.
Amazing course with unique scenic holes
A must play! Even if having a off day swinging your club you will still have fun on this course.
Great course
It was my first time playing the course. As an avid golfer it was a great track that tested all parts of game. Tight front 9 so you had to hot spots with your drive and the complete opposite wide open back 9! I really enjoyed the scenery and elevation changes on about 15 of the 18 holes! I will be back next time I am around the area!
Worth the Drive from Cleveland or Columbus
Met my Father half way for a mid-morning round. Was pleasantly surprised by the course, conditions, and amenities. Tons of elevation changes, well-contoured to the terrain, and everything in good shape.
Website is hard to get the info - but they do have a driving range which is a plus after a 90 minute drive to get there. Carts are GPS enabled so you can easily get distances without your phone or range finder.
Played forward with my Father (a senior) so the course played a little easier for me, but looking at the Blues and the tips, I think it would be a good challenge for the next time I head down that way (which will be soon I hope) - plus all of this for $35 a person.
Overall - loved it. Only complaint, albeit small, was the maintenance guys didn't have good awareness of when golfers were around - one guy kept mowing around the green on a par 3 for a few minutes without looking up and another guy just stood around in one of the fairways). That being said, it didn't ruin a great day of golf.
Greens are a great challenge!
Really enjoyed the round! Week day play was self-paced and course conditions were very good. The green are in great shape and putted true! A pleasurable day overall!
Best Course Around
Best course in the area by far. There is nothing that compares. Very challenging course, but is one of if not the best maintained course I have ever seen. The GPS on the carts are a huge plus, and the food at The Black Dog Tavern was also amazing. Deer Ridge is an all around great facility.
Always a great round
I had not played here in a few years after moving out of the area. I got a chance to play this past weekend and it was in a great of shape as I had always remembered. The staff was very friendly and this is a good value for a great course.
Deer Ridge
Many challenges, Hills blind holes. Fast greens with lots of slopes and knobs. Tuff to play enough break.
Great design. worth a day trip with your friends.
Beautiful and Fun Course
First time playing this course and I'm a below average golfer, golfing maybe 5-6 times per summer. The course was beautiful and the staff was very friendly. Challenging enough for me being an amatuer, but not so much to frustrate me. It was a very nice addition having the GPS devices on each cart showing your distance and the layout of the hole. The weather was not very nice the day we were there (for an amateur). During our 18 holes we experienced sun, rain, snow, sleet and it was very windy most of the day. However, that also tells you how nice and fun the course is that we didn't leave. Look forward to golfing here again soon!!
Beautiful golf
Amazing first impression with rolling fairways on the first and tenth tee boxes. Amazing views from many holes. If you have any game you've got to play from the tips. The front nine has a pair hokie par fours, one only measuring 235. The 2nd hole is 280 down hill with no punishment for being wayward. All of the par 5s are medium par 4s at competitive golf courses. Great presentation just a little too short!
Everyone Should Try this Course Once
A beautiful course. Many elevation changes make this a challenge for a flatlander like me. Greens were fast and undulating. Shotmaking and shot selection are a must for a good score. Clubhouse is rustic looking and accommodating. Pace of play was not good on this Friday. Stuck behind a small outing playing a scramble made for a 5 hour round. No ranger to help those folks around. Worth the trip from Columbus, as there is nothing like it in this area..
Terrific Course
What a beautiful course with stunning views from many elevated tees. Great test of skills on a well maintained course. You will enjoy this course.
best views and most interesting course in OHIO
Deer Ridge is the most interesting and fun course in Ohio. The course is so beautiful and has jaw dropping views from the tee boxes. #7 is a par three straight up the hill followed by #8, an extreme tee shot that drops 150 feet down the hill. The always let you go right when you get there, not particular about teeing off at exact time.
Conditions were fantastic.
I did jump around on the back nine to avoid three foursomes, everyone out there was understanding.
The resturant is always crowded and lunch time.
Hidden Gem
This was the 2nd time in 3 weeks I played this course, each time driving approximately an hour to get here. Such a fantastic layout with well kept course is hard to find. This course is certainly worth playing.
Sunday Afternoon Surprise
Teed off at 12:30 and finished in well under 4 hours. Greens were just a little slow, but rolled true, held well and we're faster than many public course. Fairways and rough were in excellent condition and traps were in great shape--soft, consistent sand--despite recent rain. With GN discount it was a steal.
Like no other central ohio course
The overall experience was good. The course was in great condition and the level of difficulty was above average. Many of the holes were memorable for sure. Bring your A putting game and stay below the hole...
Pace of play was awful
This is a nice golf course. It is scenic with significant elevation changes. It was also in wonderful condition.
However, it took over 5 hours to complete our round. We teed off at 1:00pm on a Saturday yet ran into fivesomes during our round. It was a death march
Mountain golf in Mid-Ohio
I've played course previously over the years, but first timers may call the layout "tricked-up" with numerous blind shots --beginning with the approach to #1. The blind pin shot on par3 #7 & guarding tree on right side is ridiculous. Course is in very fine shape: fairways, greens, tees, even sand traps; and the only negative deterrent to beautiful afternoon was the slow play. The many tight holes & blind shots will cause quite the challenge for inexperienced golfers. This particular Sat, no starter or ranger, and we waited every hole, but course was jammed with no open holes around us.
Hidden Gem
This course was awesome. Beautiful facilities, and I plan to go back just to eat at some point as the restaurant looked great as well. The course is extremely well maintained with beautiful greens and fairways (which is an accomplishment for the amount of hills), the carts have GPS that works great, and the views are spectacular. I played bad and still had a great time because of how unique and beautiful the course was. Very hilly, which adds to the challenge.
Great Course
One of the best courses around. Highly reccomended.
Were you really surprised by a 5 hour round teeing off at 1:00 on a Saturday? If so you obviously don't golf regularly. To avoid that do what my buddy and I do. Tee off before 7:00 A.M. and enjoy a 3 1/2 hour round every time.
I have played Deer Ridge several times and never had a horrible pace of play. Every course is going to have a bad day now and then, maybe you got the bad day. Still course is one of the best in Ohio, and is a totally different layout than anything else around. Brian Huntley has designed several of the best courses in the area and this is one of his best.
