Rude Manager Doesn’t Want Your Money
I have played here a lot. I really like the course and most of the staff. Sadly, there’s one guy who is occasionally there who is abrasive and just plain rude. Based on how he talks down to the other staff, I assume he’s a manager. After multiple run ins with him this summer, I’ve decided to not spend my money there anymore. It stinks, because I really do like playing there when it’s not over booked and the pace of play isn’t 6+ hours, but I have a three strike rule with regards to customer service and this dude just struck out
Constantly Improving
This course has come a long way in the past few years. It's always been a fun track with some challenging holes as well as some holes that you can score on if you play them well. The front 9 is pretty standard, but the back has a lot of elevation changes and some very fun holes. The conditions are impressive currently. Everything is green, greens are firm and fast but not dry, fairways are plush, and the roughs are challenging. Unfortunately, this place is always packed and many on the course don't practice good golf etiquette. I play here regularly, and getting stuck behind a slow playing group that refuses to let you play through is a common occurrence. Lot's of high handicappers like to play from the tips here for some reason, which really slows down the pace of play seeing as how their second and even third shots are often from behind the whites. Play forward folks!!! This is my favorite course in the area and I love to play here. However, I often opt to go elsewhere to avoid standing around. When I call to schedule a tee time, I am sure to ask if the earlier tee times are mostly foursomes. If the answer is yes, I go elsewhere. I'm not sure what it is about this course, but it almost seems as if folks are trying to spend as much time out there as possible every round. Playing slow is fine, holding up other people is not. With the popularity of golf in general this year, and especially the popularity of this ever improving track, it's time the folks at Riverby Hills consider hiring a ranger to maintain the pace of play.
Hidden Gem for locals
Is Riverby Hills an amazing golf course, no but its about as solid as you can ask for. Greens are true and pretty quick. Fairways are lush, and the rough is thick. Not too many water hazards, and a pretty open course so you shouldn't lose too many balls. Is this course a good stop and try for locals, yes. You have a few really nice holes on the back 9, but the front 9 can be pretty dull and a lot of straight away holes. They do have a putting green, and driving range. Clubhouse is okay, a decent bar and check in was quick and simple. No bar carts out, but with a full bar in the clubhouse, you should be just fine loading up before hitting your round. A pretty flat course, but on the back 9 it does a have a few good peaks and drops to change it up a little. A good place to get 18 in for the right price.
Great Course, Great Value
For being middle of February this course was still in good shape. Love the two different nine layout and the length of this course. The staff is always friendly and willing to accommodate. The fact the front nine and back nine are two different layouts makes it enjoyable. I would recommend this course to anyone and all abilities.
2 for 1
As others have opined in these reviews this is 2 courses in 1. Flat, longer front, followed by a shorter, more rolling back. While I recommend this course I do so with some reservation. A serious golfer will probably not be interested in playing here. It is an ok course, with some interesting holes, and is reasonably maintained. The staff was friendly and accommodating and it was appropriately priced.
Nice course - lots of hills and big greens
This was a nice course with some different greens that I have not yet seen in this area. Some nice hills and water to offer a different challenge.
management problems
not happy with the treatment of golfnow
.com people at this facility. I have visited there 3 times this year and all three times the mam
nager seems to have a problem with people who play thru golf now tee times. he even referred to me and my dad as you golf now people and seems to dislike that venue. I thought he was aragant and unfriendly. my father and myself will never golf there again.
use all of your clubs
very nice course. just like every other golf course in the area, the lack of rain has made most of the course extremely hard. fairways and greens were in very nice shape though.
Two courses in one
Riverby has the unique quality of two types of courses from the front 9 to the back 9.
On the front it's flatter and the challenge is more in the length than in the obstructions. There are plenty of trees to negotiate and traps, but mostly if your in the fairways your good to shoot for the green.
On the back, there's more water to play over and blind shots that test you nerves. Putting the two together makes this a fun and challenging golf corse.
Two different nines...back is very challenging for amateur golfers
I've been playing this course since I moved to the area in 2006. The staff is always friendly and accommodating and the rates are pretty good anytime of the week.
The green complexes were excellent
The staff were friendly and great. The greens were simply outstanding ...The best I played all year. The front nine was the easier of the two nines. The back nine had a few blind shots...so I wasn't quite sure what to hit off the tee. The rough was short but very penalizing.
Overall I would like to play the course again , now that I know how the layout of the back nine is. I enjoyed the golf course on a very pleasant day.
Golf Now Deal
Got a great deal in golf now, but had to play with random guy which was not a good feature. Afternoon tee times should not need to be pairing people up. Regular prices to play this course are too high. And no cart girl on Sunday afternoon? Course is pretty good shape and I have always like the layout.
Cut the grass
If you are always in the fairway you would be very happy with the course. For those that often play just outside the fairway, good luck. We lost many balls that we saw exactly where they went. This made for a long frustrating day.
Challenging
Great price... Great course and in great shape especially with the winter we had! Very challenging!
very well taken care of and a good challenging of golf
very well taken care and a good challenging of golf and friendly staff
Course in good condition - greens cut close but not too fast
Course in good condition - greens cut close but not too fast
Great deal
Pretty standard front nine. Back nine is much more challenging and requires some precision off the tee. Greens were rolling great.
The course is in the best shape ever!
The Greens were very good - fast, not the normal long and slow. The fairways were also very good and tight clean. The rough was challenging, but not poorly maintained. The staff is finally taking playing conditions serious and the membership should like the improvements.
Back 9 nightmare
This course is extremely challenging, more so in the back nine. If you have a slice or push your drives alot get ready to loose some balls in the rolling back nine.
Great mix of water and elevation changes on many holes.
This course was very challenging the day we played and a little beat up from an outing and weather. Excessive rain the last few weeks made for tall & thick rough and the fairways were slow. But, in general, this is a great course. It has many challenging holes. Several require shots along or over water and the terrain is hilly. It is generally well maintained and the fairways and greens are watered; which typically run about a 10 on speed and many are undulating.
The pro shop staff can be surely, at times. However, this day the women in the lounge taking the fees was extremely friendly. We were last in and started on two (our decision) due the scramble groups on 1 running late. This would have drawn the ire of the pro shop guy for sure. But, she was very accommodating and had no problem with us finishing on 1 at dark.
If you haven't played it, you should.
I had multiple run ins this with someone there this summer. Not sure who he is, but he’s driving away business. Embarrassed me by accusing me of not paying for my round in front of a group. When I showed him my receipt, he didn’t offer an apology...just huffed and walk away. Same guy was bad mouthing me to my group when we made the turn. Then the same guy was angry that I asked for a rain check after only getting 3 holes in.
