Cape May National Golf Club
About
Cape May National Golf Club, also known as simply the National, is a favorite among both New Jersey natives and visitors. The club has roots that date back to the 1800s when it was known as Cape May Country Club. The peacefully secluded golf course is nestled amidst mature woodlands, surrounding one of the largest private bird sanctuaries in New Jersey. The scenery is beautiful but don't let that distract you. There are plenty of challenges to keep you on your toes, including tree-lined fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and several water hazards. There are a few blind shots that make Cape May National Golf Club especially tricky if playing it for the first time. The classic design is a fair test but it's player-friendly enough for a wide range of skill levels.

Hot deal.....great value!
Very nice and challenging course. Good condition and great value thru GolfNow. Pace was slow due to a tournament, but Luckily I was in no hurry. Look forward to another deal there again.
Somewhat above average course
For $68 on a weekend, this course has good value.
But maybe they should raise their rates and put a little more care into the course. Greens and fairways were, again, slightly above average. Layout was intersting. Pace of play was a slow 5 hour round.
Confusing Start
There were no markers on the first 5 tee boxes, making the course very confusing for the first time playing it.
Good Layout
The course is very challenging with a good layout. It gives a feel of being cut out of nature.
Good layout, jury’s out on the greens
Good, challenging layout with an interesting variety of holes. However, I don’t like the quirkiness of two par-5s which take driver out of your hands (quick and severe turns to the left from the tee).
Par 71 with Blue tee ratings of 71.4/130.
The greens were aerated, top-dressed with sand, and furry. Basically, unputtable, unfortunately. I’m told that can be good and very fast when they heal.
Still, a good deal at $25.
Early Season Review
Cold & extremely windy. Course is letting rough grow in and was extremely uneven and spotty, greens slow but consistent. Always enjoy the seclusion of being in an Audubon sanctuary , the clubhouse was closed when we finished our round & my wife could not use restroom or purchase anything to drink. Hopefully, they improve the course by tourist season or they will be out of business if they charge in season rates of $80-95 per round.
Beautiful Day
Beautiful day to play a beautiful course. Greens and fairways were in great shape. Leaves weren't too bad.
We t'd off a little before out T time and wound up waiting behind another 2 some and in front of them a 2 some. Hooking up wouldn't have moved it any faster, but we waited a lot, but still finished in 4 hours 15 minutes. Course was well worth the $$.
First Timer
I found the course to be in excellent condition. People need to be more diligent about fixing ball marks on the greens so everyone can have nice greens. Pace of play was decent for a Sarturday afternoon in early fall. We did not try the food. Although we did have their specialty drink….which was fantastic! The building seems a bit run down. Looks like there has been an investemnt in improving course conditions. A few years ago the word was that the course was not in good shape. This has changed. An update to the facilities could be next.
Stunningly beautiful
Had the whole course to myself. Was in great shape. Beautifully laid out, fully integrated into the natural landscape. Can't wait it play again.
bad value
Thank god I only paid 35.00 from golf now to play this course. Rate of 79.00 way to much for a course that used to be a great place to play when it first opened. Hadn't played there in 20 years and won't be back. Clubhouse is dirty, falling apart, could only get a hotdog to eat...place just an over all mess.
Great course
I recommend this course to anyone visiting the Cape May area. The course was in great condition. I rated the pace of play low because there was a 5-some a couple holes ahead of us. Not sure if they were allowed out that way or if they paired up after teeing off - that said, we never say a ranger around to correct the issue. Otherwise, I believe the pace would have been better. Also, quality of food & beverage - a person driving around selling food and drink would have been welcomed. Otherwise, this was a very good time!
Cape May National
Course was in great shape, fairways were perfect. Greens rolled true and were pretty quick.
This course is a classic old style South Jersey course
Lots of fun to play for a born-and -raised South Jersey golfer. Excellent variety of short and long par 4's. fair 3's and 5's(except for one!). Just-aerated tees. Rough showing stress of heavy use and dry weather. Greens a little bumpy after aeration but fun and fair anyway. Fairways firm and in good shape but seemed to be suffering a foamy spotting which we kept confusing for golf balls!. Enjoyed it immensely anyway. Impressive old-style paneled men's locker room. Good luck and many thanks to the staff for keeping things going!
You will feel like a local member
This course is extremely well maintained. There are many holes that makes you and stand back and re-evaluate your strategy. There are doglegs, strategic sand traps and, narrow fairways. I almost forgot the intimidating water hazards and fesscues.
Challenging without being unfair.
Great fairways
Found out at course back9 was closed and front was airaited. Other than that they put foursome of employees out in front of us and were about to send 5 some of members out on our tee time when I told them we were going to play 9 some they decided we should use our rightfully time.
Great Course for Price
Cost us $60 to get on Labor Day weekend with group of friends who were in town for a wedding.
Played one up from the tips, no need to ever hit driver, all Target golf. The most you will have in on Par 5's if you play one up from the tips is 250.
Greens were amazing, seemed like everything wanted to go in. No burn out's on greens, no fungus issues, truly a great course.
GPS is provided on carts, little confusing because it seemed like the Hazard Distances on each hole were a little off, but in terms of yardages into greens, the GPS was spot on.
Staff was very friendly, especially the cart girls, and starter.
Fun course to play, don't be a hero, just hit it straight, leave Driver in the bag, you won't need it.
Great course!
Course was in the best condition I've seen it in years, greens rolling true, and the CMN staff very friendly and helpful in managing our round. Hoping to return soon!
Good but lacking polish in a few areas
The course itself was in very good shape which is of course ultimately the most important thing. GPS tablets in carts are terrific. A few areas of opportunity to make it a true top tier course:
- Pro Shop staff not friendly or welcoming in contrast to much more friendly starters, snack bar staff ok
- Round took nearly 5 hours due to the lack of a marshall to keep the group in front of us moving
- Several tee boxes missing ball washers or towels
- Signage directing to next hole missing in some places
- No divot filler on the carts... instructions were to replace divots which does not work
Great SJ Shore Course
Fast and true greens and lots of interesting target golf shots
Each hole sign is being hand painted by a local artist, which is being done before the season starts. We are sorry that a few were missing while you played.
