Columbus Legend
Got to play this little gem of a course one last time before progress moved in and took it away from us. Short but always challenging, Minerva lake is the type of course that is forgiving enough to let you post lower scores than a longer course but still make you feel like you earned it. Hopefully one day there will be another course like it here. Nothing will replace the charm or style of this relic from golf's golden age.
Played while it was still open...
Have played here at least fifty times and have had a good experience at least 90% of the time. Can play slow at times, but most groups will let faster ones play through. Old course with not much distance but a lot of charm. The second par five dares you to go for the green in two. Some short par fours that longer hitters can reach off the tee. Supposedly closing sometime in 2016 i heard...to bad. I always tell others that it is a poor man's Champion's. Course plays similar i think and about thirty percent cheaper.
Fun Course
First or second time playing here. (If I played before it was probably 45 years ago in high school, I just don't remember.) I will be back. It's only a Par 69 so don't let the distance fool you. The par 5's aren't real long, but the 3's and 4's are plenty long. Course was in good shape, greens were rolling very true, if not very fast. There are some really interesting holes that make this a fun round of golf.
Cloudy cool day
Our 4some played Minerva the day after heavy rains. The course was in decent shape - except soggy in places. The greens were EXTREMELY slow. In addition to the rain yesterday, they hadn't been cut in a few days. Ideally, it would be nice to have yardage on sprinkler heads.
Great course !
Great place to improve your game. Will play this course again and again. Staff is friendly well taken cared for public course.
Old Course, Old Charm
This is an old course that is still is great shape... Many holes are wide open making it somewhat easy for the average golfer.
You can get in trouble on some holes but like I said earlier, most holes are wide open.
Rumors of its death are greatly exaggerated
An old favorite of mine for a simple, confidence building round. This course was reportedly to be closed several years ago but keeps popping up on Golf Now. (Pro shop guy confirmed again the rumors that closure could be imminent if the home developing purchaser goes forward.) Wanted to play a short course with my beginner golfing nephew, so went back for a round. We had an enjoyable time on the front 10. (course has a front 10 and back 8). A nice mix of short scorable holes, with a couple of more challenging ones to keep an intermediate player challenged. When you are "just playing 9," getting a 10th bonus hole is a fun way to finish. I am rooting against the developer so that this course stays an option for years to come.
Good course
Course is great for tuning your game, not overly difficult but not too easy. Wide open enough to spray your driver around but still have a play. Short par 4's used iron a lot from the tee. Really liked the course.
Good time with my husband
Enjoyed playing, not a great golfer, but like getting out. Not a difficult course, but certainly ups and downs. Would play again.
A little long but overall good.
The length of the cuts were all too long for my taste, but the course still played better than I expected. The grass was mostly a nice healthy green. Some holes are confusing to see where you're going the first time you play the course.
Great Little Course 18 hole in a Residential area
A nice little course tucked away in a residential community. It's a no frills atmosphere, the course and greens have been worked on and it's continual process. I like the course because it has some challenges.
Still good after all these years
Hadn't played there for 10 or more years, but it's still a good place to play. The twosome in front of us held up play considerably, so they need a ranger out there to get that under control. Still a good course.
Hideaway
This course was great for a nice weekday outing. Some players ahead were slower making the pace slow but the back 9 went smoothly. Dont golf frequently but it was nice and affordable being close to home.
First time played. would pay it differently next time.
An old old course. I knew where it was located, just never play it before and it is only 4 miles from my residence. I enjoyed playing it.
Minerva
Friendly staff and nice course. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone
Easy but Fun Overall
I really enjoyed my experience at Minerva Lake. It was a fairly cookie-cutter coarse but I really have no complaints as to the staff, upkeep, or general layout. Would recommend.
Decent course true greens
Not bad for being 7 minutes from the place i am staying at and 25$. I'll be back for sure.
Awesome little course!
This is a great little course for beginners, to intermediate golfers. May even challenge a seasoned golfer as well (though it is quite short). It has many mature trees, relatively quiet, narrow fairways, and slow to medium greens that are on the smaller side. You'll definitely get a workout on your iron game if you play the course correctly, but if you don't mind hitting out of the rough often, you can almost drive many of the holes (if you hit the ball far 280-320 consistently, you will drive many of the greens). It's not that expensive to play, especially if you walk. I typically walk here, but when I'm in a hurry, I'll ride. The course offers lots of challenges from elevation changes, to a few blind drive holes. There is 0 stand, and 0 bodies of water, but there is a creek that snakes throughout the course that is in play on many holes. All-in-all I would definitely recommend this course to anyone wanting to have a nice round of golf. Also, they have a front 10, and a back 8, so if you're really crunched for time, the back 8 is a nice quick play, even when walking.
Overall a very nice course
This course is challenging in that the holes are compact so you need to hit the ball accurately but not overly so. Not many obstacles except a couple of holes where a stream crosses the fairway. This is especially good for a golfer who is an occasional player like me. However, this doesn't lessen the overall quality of the course. Despite all the rain Central Ohio has had, the fairways are nice and the greens are very well done! I feel any golfer, at any level, would enjoy a round here at Minerva!
Great value
great little course. It was really wet from all of the rain but the fairways and greens held together nicely. No beer at the clubhouse though which was a surprise. I would play there again with no hesitation.
Just a heads up, I didn't find this out myself until like a month ago, because to don't post/advertise it anywhere. You can actually bring your own beer to the course, free of charge. They'll even keep some in their fridge for you to keep it cold for when you make the turn. Played that course for 2 years and can't believe I just found this out lol.
