Good bang for your buck
Course was in excellent shape in late April - I would say that is probably the case in a lot of places but the Columbus muni's I've played this spring that has definitely not been the case.
The greens, fairways and tee boxes were all in excellent shape and while the course is only par 69 and quite short, it offers plenty of challenge with some blind fairways and greens/pins that offer chances for some high risk/reward type of shots. And their 18th hole is definitely one you'll want to hit an extra tee shot on for fun. I also wouldn't recommend walking as its got quite a few very steep hills but if you're up for the exercise, go for it!
Expect a few beginners out there and not really your country club type of folk really but that suits me just fine - and for the price it is an excellent place to knock em around a few times a year.
Brings back memories
There are few golf courses that provide as much fun as Minerva. Having cut my teeth on this course, I always remember the good times I had as a young beginning golfer when playing this course. I hope it does not close as expected due to future development. Staff is top notch friendly. Hard to find this great combination nowadays. Keep up the good work! It is ALWAYS fun going to minerva!
The Last Days of Minerva Lake
Minerva is a short but tricky course. Ive played on it since 2007, and it has never been in better shape.
The greens are relatively slow, but contoured and tricky, very few straight putts, and below the hole is always better on this course.
Unfortunately "developers" are waiting only for sewer and water approval from the City of Columbus, and when that happens, another really nice local course bites the dust.
Although the course is a par 69; there are some challenges because of hole placement.
Because the weather was beautiful, the course was very crowded. Someone needed to check on pace of the play and tell some groups to not hit more than one shoot from the tee when their shots went wrong. That was very frustrating for those behind them. I never saw a ranger on the course during play.10/11/2013
Short but tricky.
This course is always kept in great condition, and I've always felt welcome. The elevation changes and odd angled lies make this shorter course a lot trickier than meets the eye. The greens move at a decent pace and are rather smooth and well taken care of. I love the lush fairways and tee boxes. Overall my favorite golfcourse for under $30 in the Columbus area.
Fun, old time golf
This is a fun place to play. It's sort of like "Tee It Forward" golf. It reminds me of small time golf courses 50 years ago. The holes are shorter and the greens are slower. Minerva is in good shape for the most part. It made it through the recession better than a lot of the courses in Columbus. The people are friendly and efficient. The place has a lot of character. About half the holes are truly unique. If you're tired of the same old golf, try this place.
greens damp /slow
greens slow/couple fairways to wet/push down on club head insure dry fairway
Fairways were in great condition, hard pin placements made the course fun
Greens could use a good mow but we really enjoyed the course. Staff was friendly.
Great course inside the 270 loop
Staff was great and well organized. Greens were relatively fast, making them a lot more difficult. Great course.
Hidden Gem
I really liked this course. It's well maintained and the staff is super accommodating.
This course is awesome I enjoyed it.
This is a course that I would recommend playing at least a couple times a year.
Fun course nice and open
I golf there usually once a week, it's just a fun pretty easy course that is wide open. I end up leaving with more balls then I came with. The par 3's while short are actually the hardest holes on the course to me. elevation changes make them tricky. I have never struggled to get a tee time day of as well. If you want to just show up and pretty much walk right on, this is the place.
Greens slower than expected but good overall
Overall a very good track and day at the course. Ranger talked a good game about speeding up a VERY slow foursome a couple groups ahead with the idea of them allowing smaller groups play through was a good plan... but no execution made for a longer than could have been round waiting to hit nearly every shot. Nobody got passed them and the train was piled up behind them as far as you could see.... while they had empty holes in front of fhem.
Overall very nice course.
There were a few really cool holes on this course. My favorite by far was 18. A very fun hole to play.
good course for the money
close to house,never a wait to play,enjoyable course,great prices.
Slow Greens
I really liked this course. However, the greens were much slower than I am used to. I found this to be pretty frustrating. Maybe the greens are not always as slow as they were the round I played.
would like another shot at it
Course was short but was challenging. Several blind shots and elevated greens.. I would like another shot at it now that I know my way around.
Old style course with mature trees, creeks and rolling terrain.
Nice starter course. Easy to score. Good rates for seniors (don't use GolfNow.com coupons because the senior rate is the same minus the $2 booking charge).
