The course has a great selection of holes
I thought the course was great, there were a great selection of different holes to play, drivers not gonna work on every hole :) and using all the clubs in your bag is a must here. Will be back to play again.
price went up when OSU took over course
Great golf course. Large variety of holes. Risk /reward course.
Great shape, challenge, fun
No beer on Sunday...otherwise great course in rural area, a few doglegs with narrow fairways. stay in the fairway to avoid major obstacles.
One of my favorites...
Love the course! Fairways are maintained and the greens are challenging.
people at front desk were rude
guy at the front desk was rude to me. I asked for a simple request and was informed that they could not accommodate me at the price I paid for my round. I guess you get treated better when you pay full price. I asked for a refund, walked out to my car and called a course 15 minutes away who was more than eager to fulfill my simple request. the cost for me and my partner was $16.00 more but it was worth every penny.
pace of play
course in good condition but you must tee off early to have a good pace of play 941 tee time took over 5 hours to finish
Beware.
We booked through golfnow but the $20 was a special for all golfers that day. This means they allow fivesomes and there is lots of beer. Brings out the boors and the hackers who take forever and are all over the course. Go another day to enjoy this nice course.
20 bucks- WOW
played for 20 bucks with cart, unbelievable value. Just got back from vacation in Virginia where i played a Jack Nicklaus course, Hawk's Nest blew it away in fairway and greens condition and over all playing conditions.
Hit every club in the bag
The course has character. Every hole is different, and all are interesting. Theres a good mix of short, medium, and long holes. The short holes are not push overs, because they're well designed, and the long holes play long and tough. I hit every club in my bag, which is unusual. The greens were in good shape overall.
Getting better
Hawks Nest has always been a challenging course. Gradual improvements have had their effect. The course is close to being back to where it was before OSU took it over, maybe even better. Fairways and greens are in good shape for the most part. The most notable improvement is in the bunkers. Drainage is better and while I would prefer another inch or two of sand, the quality of the sand is very good and consistemt. If you have stayed away the last few years like I have I suggest you give it another try. However, be advised that pace of play on weekends is still pretty slow.
Getting back to the way it used to be!
I was happy to see this course on its way back to being great. Every bunker is full of sand again. Overall the course was in great shape. (aside from small brown patches on 2 greens snd a few chewed up tee boxes)
Course needs new maintenance supervisor.5-18-2013
The course isn't visually appealing or relaxing looking. It looks like a barren field - no flowers no landscaping no signature hole look. The course plays long with the different elevation changes, narrow fairways and thick rough- that even the pros would complain about. I think the course has all kinds of potential with its layout, and the correct care. Thanks for reading.
Great layout
Very interesting layout, excellent fairways. Would recommend this course to any level of player. Staff was very attentative.
A golf course with memorable holes
The day would have been perfect if we didn't have to follow a very slow group from the Medina County OSU Alumni golf outing.
This is a very challenging course and beautifully maintained by the super friendly staff. Love playing here and recommend it to all my friends.
The fairways are beautiful and you need to hit straight. This is not just a length course. You must think.
Potential
The course was a top Ohio back when Mr. Hawkins opened it. While it is still a nice course with a great layout, since OSU bought it the grooming went from fantanstic to ok. Fairways and greens are nice but OSU really needs to focus on the tee boxes and bunkers. Still worth a trip to play.
Where are the Hawks?
Staff treats you well from the time you drop your clubs until you leave the course after the round. Tees, fairways, roughs and greens all in very nice shape for a late in the season round.
Roughs were fertilized, thick and green. Although cut down to a manageable length, still tough to negotiate. Keeping it in the short stuff is the key to a good round at Hawk's Nest.
A couple years back, Hawk's Nest flipped the nines, so the original #1 is now #10. Signature holes, (most interesting) for me are #9 and #11. Both are great holes to play with 9 being a really tough par and 11 a great drive provides a great birdie opportunity.
Greens and Fairways in great shape
I wanted to play this course all year and Golf Now made it possible and staff welcomed me and valued my business....Was great day and I had great round.
Very hard. Demanding off the tee.
Very nice course played during the drought and still was in real good shape. A must play course.
