Crystal Springs Golf Club
About
Crystal Springs Golf Club in Hamburg touts a reputation of being not only the most challenging golf course in New Jersey, but also one of the most challenging layouts east of the Mississippi. The site filled with water after its use as a limestone quarry in 1929, which formed the natural springs on the 10th hole that the course is named after. The layout is definitely a shot-maker's course. Carefully sculpted mounding that frames the fairways and greens defines each hole. There is also tall and gnarly rough treacherously guarding the tight fairways. The golf course sits just a few miles from New Jersey's highest point, sprawling across an undulating terrain that makes it difficult to find an even lie. One of the most notably difficult, and subsequently the most talked about, holes is the 11th. The hole is perched atop a cliff overlooking the Windsor Quarry.

A good challenge
A fun challenge to play. Narrow, lots of ups a downs, undulating fairways. Great views, in great condition.
Would play again.
Not so great
Gotta say, the course has seen better days. For the premium price paid, pace of play should be steady and not backed up 3 groups on one hole. Also traps need sand and greens were bumpy due to aerating probably a few weeks now. Premium fees still being charged for a subpar experience.
Beautiful day, VERY slow
We had a great first outing here. Staff and ameneties were top notch. The pace was brutal though. Waiting every hole, and on the 11th hole, there was a back-up of FOUR groups.
Please tell you you aerated before I pay.
I paid my fee and then as I’m leaving the pro shop, I hear, “and the greens were aerated on 4/12.” I could have played Wild Turkey and paid $10 more if I would have known. This should be told before a person pays their fee.
Challenging
Awesome place. Even give you balls to warm up.. which you need on this challenging course.
Nice but tough
Course was in great shape but is not for beginners or even average golfers. . Need precision irons.
Close but no Cigar
Family was playing in sand on par 3 15th.
Dad looked like he was looking for gophers.
PACE OF PLAY
SLOW AF. It was nearly a 5 hour round. We spoke with a few staff but they didn't seem bothered. It's probably business as usual for these courses that do 8 minute or less intervals.
Beautiful and extremely challenging
Truly beautiful course that lives up to its ranking as a top 50 most challenging course in the country.
Course was in excellent condition (aside from bunkers that were rather rocky) and the natural rocks populating the course are a sight to behold.
Every single fairway has extreme undulations that make a flat lie impossible and more than half the tees shots leave very little room for error. The greens were extremely difficult as well but rolled very true.
