Hills at Community Golf Course
About
The Community Golf Center facility offers two regulation length golf courses, the Dales Course and the Hills Course. The Hills Course is the longer and slightly more difficult of the two. Due to its location nestled in the rolling hills south of Dayton, the terrain is quite hilly and at some times very difficult to walk. Designed in the 1920s, the course has an older layout but it is still an interesting and challenging game with tricky tees placed above the greens and water hazards that come into play on a few holes. The golf course's fairways are rather narrow and there is an abundance of stately trees, planted at the turn of the century.

This is the out side course of two courses
This course is well maintained......to much clover off of the fairway.....makes it hard to find your ball......I know....keep it on the Fairway and I could find my ball!!
This course has a very challenging layout
Community Hills course is well manicured for a public facility, why stop at bunkering? "Stay out of the sandtraps" The bunkers have little to no sand. I personally take pride in keeping my clubs in good condition and expect not to hit rocks when in a bunker! !
average course
This course is average and I wouldn't pay full price $38 to play
Good little course
Good bang for your buck. Worth a play from golf now
Greens were very good
Had just rained when we played so sand traps was wet and some had standing water in them, but the greens were excellent. Overall very nice, will be going back.
Great experience
First day of spring and I was able to get out on the course. $11 a piece for my son and I to ride 18 holes! Cant beat it!
Hills course is a challenging Muni.
Also called the outside course because it rings the property, the Hills has easy holes at the beginning and end of each nine, with some really tough ones in between. There are lots of slopes and trees to contend with. On the day I played, the greens showed evidence of aeration and top-dressing, but putting was still pretty good. Fairways had suffered a little from late summer heat. No rough to speak of. It's not long at 6304 from the tips, but it's a very nice vintage parkland course with holes that provide challenges and rewards. Take a cart unless you're really fit. They don't call it Hills for nothing.
Great course, not too busy--Good staff
Thoroughly enjoyed the course. More challenging than Dales course but still a fun play.
Good course for the price
I would play again if I was given this price all of the time. We paid $23 for 18 holes with a cart. The course was in great condition when I played. I did have a bad experience with a golf cart but other than that everything was good.
Blind Shots a Plenty
This was my first time playing The Hills course and Community. Reading the scorecard made me believe the course was going to be pretty easy. Length wise it is not that long. What makes this course difficult is the amount of blind shots you have to greens. This made the course challenging, but also frustrating as you have no reference on distance to the pin or the group in front of you. The greens were fairly quick and pins were tucked when I played. Not bad for a city course.
The course is very hilly
Most of the courses I play are fairly flat. This course has it all from high tee boxes, to hitting up hill. A couple blind shots. It's best to play with someone who has been played there before. Very mature course with creature.
Great value for ghe money.
The course is well maintained, the greens are very challenging, the carts are 1st class, there are a few holes that would challenge all skill levels and clubhouse food is good too.
Great city course!
I've played this course since 1978 and it hasn't changed much in that time. The people working there now are pleasant and even with the recent rain, the grass was well groomed. They are grassing in some of the bunkers, which is good since they've never maintained them.
Slow play
Slowest players in area, made for a long wait on every hole and jaded any other impression of the course. Players waiting to hit it 200+ to the green then hitting it 4 more times before getting there (nearly every hole). The course itself was in pretty good shape. The rough was a definite challenge. I liked the greens. They were very fast but consistent so once you got a feel for them you had a chance. Not likely to return based on the cost and the inefficiency of play. Not once did a ranger attempt to move anyone along.
Nice Mature Course
The Outside eighteen holes also known as the Hills Course at Community golf center is a nice mature layout. The course is hilly with many elevated tees and a lot of mature trees.
Difficulty is probably closer to easy than Challenging, but there are plenty of difficult holes, along with some fairly easy short par 4's and par 5's.
Condition of the course is also pretty middle of the road. A city of Dayton golf course, it is maintained but far from pristine. Greens are pretty good, but tees and fairways are often not in excellent condition. Usually not in poor condition either though.
The course is not expensive and a pretty average value as well.
Drawbacks of the course are it can be busy at times with slow play along with average condition . Advantages are nice hills and trees with good vistas and fun elevated tees. Overall a pretty nice golf experience.
I have been playing this course for thirty years and it continues to be a challenging and fun course.
Nice Layout - Greens not so much
Course has a nice layout but like any typical city owned course it needs attention. The fairways are long cut and the bunkers really have no sand. The worst of it all is the greens, it is a heavily played public course and you can tell. Lots of ball bruises and scuff marks. I am a 5 HCP and had a hard time two putting from 25 ft because of all the bounces and mis-direction of the putts due to the greens. I really enjoyed some of the holes from a layout and elevation point. Forgot to mention we played the outside course.
hilarious...funny. I know what you mean!
