Poorly maintained course. Some greens are brown. Paths are poor. Starting groups too close together causing back ups on course. Not a very friendly atmosphere. They actually changed a hole placement in between two groups.
The practice green is the best green in the course.
The course could excel with some maintenance and watering of the greens. Location is great from LBI but without changes we probably won’t return.

I have played this course several times for the last 5 years, yesterday was my last time. why no senior rate on Mondays ? Most of the greens had patches with no grass, some at least half the area. Fairways were terrible, I don't think the superintendent could grow grass on a chia pet. The worst was the course " manager" allowing his grandson and friends to cut in front of us @ the turn and we had to wait as they each hit 2-3 tee shots on the next 3 holes. Ownership should check the register receipts because I'm sure they did not pay for golf or lunch. My Monday league had an outing there scheduled for October, we will be canceling that. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY !

Aerating while course open?

Had a 10:20a tee time, one of our players took ill so unfortunately we were a twosome squeezed in between other foursomes. So as expected, pace was a little slow, but weather was great, course was in decent shape, I was hitting on all cylinders, so we were mostly happy until.....we got to the 12th hole and the green was freshly plugged, and I mean freshly! There was plug debris all over the green and no sooner did we exit the green the sander rolled on to start filling the plugs. The 13th green was all sand cause they had just finished there. Aerating the greens in the middle of the day while players are out on the course? No mention of this by the pro shop or starter? Come on! Given the pace and conditions, we knocked off early. Gotta knock mgmt for this action, but we did have fun for 13 holes.

Nice Course, Not Nice Staff

If you have played in the area, maybe a little more North, at Woodlake in Lakewood, you will see that Ocean Acres might remind you of a 'beachy' type of Woodlake.

The 10th hole is the coolest on the course by far, with the water surrounding it.

2 things I want to say negative about this course are: 1. The staff was not the nicest. We were given an attitude for paying on our debit cards. I am sorry, but if you offer cards, I'm going to use my card. It is 2016, not 1920. Especially after we had waited for 10 minutes to be helped by someone on the staff.

The other negative is the pace of play. I have heard and read reviews of this, and didn't believe it. Even though it wasn't the worst, the pace of play was most certainly slower than usual.

Other than those two things, the course played great. I guess that is the most important part. They start you off with a nice challenge on 1 with a Z shaped hole.

The price was pretty decent for what it's worth. The back 9 is pretty awesome too.

Easy access off the parkway also.

Mixed Bag

Located 10 minutes from the Causeway Bridge leading on and off Long Beach Island NJ, this course offers a challenge to golfers of all levels of ability.

Let's start with the good stuff. The course offers a nice layout with tree lined fairways on the front 9. Most greens on the front 9 are on the smaller side so sharp iron play is a must. The back 9 starts with a 150 yard (white tees) par 3 to a green that is surrounded on three sides by water. Wind is always a factor, especially on the holes that are unguarded by trees (9, 10, 11 and 18). The back 9 after the open 10th and 11th holes winds through the dense woods of tall oaks that are native to the area. The back 9 is very challenging as there are holes that have very narrow fairways mixed in with right to left doglegs. The trees line the fairways in a way that does not allow allot of room for error, so accuracy off the tee is essential. All in all the course is well worth the trip and with staggered rates you can get a bargain round in the afternoon.

Now for the not so good. The shop staff can use a little coaching on how to make the paying customer feel welcome. They do a good job of taking your money but not much else. They make no effort to pair up single players to manage the pace of play.

If you show up as a single or with two golfers they will send you out between groups of 3 or 4 without trying to pair up players to ease the pace of play. You will stand around between shots and on tee boxes. Our group of three started out as three singles until we were forced to join up as a threesome when we got jammed up on the 4th hole. They need to do a better job at starting tee management.

Pace of play can be brutal. The first hole is a par 5 which normally wouldn't be an issue but the hole does not allow you to hit your driver because of the double dogleg setup. It is a long iron or three wood for shorter players off the tee, ON A PAR 5! The second hole is a short par 4 so, you guessed it, you'll wait on the second tee and then for the rest of the round. They really should move the 1st tee up and change the first hole to a par 4.

On this particular day our group of 3 three (who started as 3 singles) got stuck behind possibly the three slowest player ever encountered on a golf course. After catching up to them on the 6th hole we waited on every shot, and other groups started backing up behind us. The point of this is that there was no ranger to be found on the course to speed the group up or demand they let others play through. We ended up going around them and skipping a hole. Again, course management needs to do a better job managing the time and pace of play.

Clubhouse has a bar and restaurant that has windows overlooking the 10th tee with a clear view of players teeing it up for their shot over the water. There are some tables set up outside for taking advantage of the nice weather. Average food and the normal bar offerings of beer, wine and cocktails.

Overall, the course is very challenging and a good bargain, especially at the Jersey shore, where you can pay over $100 for a round at most course. With just a couple of tweaks to the management style and better course management this could be a true gem.

Great course

I play this course every summer when I am on vacation in long beach island. Great twilight deals and love the layout of the holes. Some great holes with water features makes for great views and fun holes to play. I will continues to go back over and over again. Highly recommend
