Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Ohio (2014 #11)
Reviews
Great greens
Always love the greens. Course shows some normal October wear and tear, but very playable. Rates on golf now make it the best deal in the area.
Great course layout and challenging water hazards on several holes.
The course was in very good shape. Beautiful course layout along the river. Several holes have very challenging water hazards.
tough course
Greens were in excellent shape for this time of year. Staff was outstanding. Will be back soon..
Well maintained
This was my first time using Golf Now and didnt know what to expect. When we arrived we were greeted with a friendly smile that made me feel like I was at my home course.
The course was in great shape. It lies next to the Ohio river and had a great view on a couple holes.
Greens were in great shape.
I would highly recmend this course to anyone in the area.
Mike
Wonderful golfing experience, spectacular bargain.
The course was in very good condition. The greens are large, undulating, and fast. The fairways were wide and smooth. Pace of play was excellent except for one terribly
slow foursome that would not let anyone play through (went around and came back). No driving range but all other facilities were very nice.
Greens were nice but rest of course needs attention.
Several tee boxes were closed and temporary tee boxes were in use. The fairways were also under repair on about 6 holes and required cart path only. Thankfully the greens were nice and saved the day!
great course for the money
play was easy to maintain with wide fairways and well kept grounds annual burn was noticed on several tees, greens were well maintained, will recomend to others.
One of the best courses in the area
Shawnee State Golf Course is one of the nicest public courses you can play. It is not particularly long, but all the par threes are at least 150 yards from the white tees. The sand bunkers are numerous, strategically placed throughout the course, and are in excellent shape. The signature hole (number 5) has a great view of the Ohio River as the backdrop for your second shot.
The front nine has several wide open shots, but the fairways get narrower on the back. The best feature of this course is the putting surface. Putts roll true and some of the pin placements can be tricky.
If you are in the area, you definitely should give this course a chance.
Nice greens, spotty fairways, super nice staff
I have played this course a number of times over the past few weeks. Overall it offers some really great value and the staff including head pro have been very nice.
The greens have rolled really well. The course plays a little short on par4's and par5s. The par3's are pretty standard when it comes to yardage. The course has enough texture to it that is does force you to think before your shot, but not so tough that a double bogey player couldnt have fun on it.
My only complaint would be that the fairways have many dead spots. Almost looks like they have been burnt up, but the weather has been great for all other courses ive played this year.
Great course
Excellently maintain course, greens are in great shape and fast.
The day we played it was very wet, and the greens held up very well.
Above average public course
Friendly staff. Good pace of play. The course is well tended for a public course; it is not a country club atmosphere by any means, but well worth the money.
