slow play
Course is in great shape, pace of play was brutally slow.
they let five somes tee off, no excuse for that, need a ranger badly
Needs small improvements
My wife and I played on Tuesday, July 4. It was our first time playing the course. The fairways and greens are in great shape. The sand traps need a lot of work. I was disappointed that there are no yardage markers either down the middle of the fairway, or elsewhere.
Rangers?
The day started with a long line, to be expected on 4’th of July, however the foursome ahead of us were holding everyone up and the Ranger(s) didn’t seem to care. After an agonizing 9 holes of waiting, we got to the turn and this group actually picked up another player who was even slower then the other 4. We had to skip that hole and were able to make up sometime. For 17 holes and 5.5 hours is better than 6+ for 18 I guess.
Highland Red - Good value
Tees and greens are hard, tees a little lumpy, but in pretty good shape. Several ruts in the fairways and cart paths that can be jarring. Nevertheless, I like the course and think it’s a great value. Desk staff and starter were very friendly.
Fivesomes
What is with the fivesomes at Highland, especially in morning. Played Friday morning with two fivesomes in front of us for first nine. Takes away from the joy of the day. Should not be allowed. Hopefully, Troon Management can "manage" this ongoing/long running problem
Needs work
I hope the new management company can bring this course back. We played the read course, and the greens were in really good shape. However, everything else was below average. I know we got a lot of rain recently, but the rough in spots was knee-high. Lastly, the clubhouse, which is huge, is a barren wasteland with absolutely nothing in it.
