Wow - Thank you for the five star review!
Water Damaged Turf a Sand Trap on a Green & Slow Play
This poor track is hurt. There are greens that are beat us from the pin never being moved it appears then on the back wow there is a sand trap on the green on hole 11. Water damage is apparent in fairways and greens. The pace of play was not good. Almost 5 hours for two. The range is great, grass, no mats. The Practice green was very nice. The employees were great. The grounds however are not good let alone great. Darlington, Rockleigh or even Ovenpeck are a way better option. Sorry but stay away til the grounds are totally redone. Hurtin for Certain.
Good overall experience
Good course with a challenging layout. Greens were a little slow, but in good shape. We played in the afternoon so that might account for the slower greens. Overall a fun round played at a good pace.
Fine course; needs some course management
My round was fine with good pace until the 12th hole there were four foursomes in the hole. This turned the round into a five hour plus special. Too bad, tainted what otherwise was an enjoyable round. Needs ranger to move things along
Nice course but the pace of play could have been better.
Best of Bergen County
The course is in excellent condition.
The forced carry over water on 1 and 10 will challenge most golfers. More shot making and accuracy is needed on the back 9. The yardage difference between the white and black tees is also a bigger factor on the back 9 than the front.
Grass on the practice range instead of mats is a plus.
The ranger moved the slow foursomes up to keep play moving on the afternoon we played.
At 90 plus degrees there was enough drinking water on the course and the beverage cart came by frequently.
The course us in Good shape
Our foursome played in less then 4 hours. The course was in good shape, especially when we factor in it is the 1st week of May.I will be back soon.
Great layout
Enjoyed the round. Too early in the season to judge
Decent course
Relatively short and flat course yet somewhat challenging with tree-lined fairways and water hazards in many holes. Fairways and greens could be much better. They don't drain well after the rain and dries out quickly. Bunkers have be newly worked on last year.
This course was mostly in terrible shape! At this time not worth a 50$ non-resident fee + cart
Just played this course yesterday (08/15/13) and I have to say the course was mostly in terrible shape! At this time it is not worth the 50$ non-resident fee. Tee boxes in terrible shape with some being overrun by some type of crabgrass. Many greens pock-marked like it had been hailing golf balls (don't people fix their ball-marks anymore?) and many also having "burn-out" or "rot-out" areas. Poor drainage in lower-lying areas. Divots in fairways not repaired at all. A real shame as this IS a well designed and challenging shot course.
course needs to be maintained
The course is easy to walk, has a nice layout and has potential to be a very good play. However, tee boxes were subpar, traps were almost sandless and fairways were spotty at best. The greens for most part played well.
Not Worth It
Hadn't played this course in a few years. Couldn't believe how far it had done downhill. Greens were in very poor condition with a lot of fungus and bare spots. Tee boxes were not cut well and with many bare spots. Divits in fairways look like they hadn't been fixed in weeks. Most of the sand traps filled with water. Those that weren't had dirt, not sand. Very disappointing.
Terrible Condition
Valley Brook used to be fun to play. We hadn't played it in a couple of years and were shocked at how bad it's been maintained. The greens are awful with fungus and bare places. The tee boxes are dirt and scraggly grass. Sandtraps were mostly filled with water--and the ones that weren't had dirt, not sand. Fairways were okay, but with a lot of divits. Keep in mind, too, that the Golfnow fee does not include cart.
Wow, we are so happy you enjoyed your round, bobby60420! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
