Fox Hollow Golf Club
About
Fox Hollow Golf Course in Somerville sprawls across acres of rolling woodlands, offering dramatic elevation changes throughout the par-70 layout. Designed by local designer Hal Purdy, the abundant trees and hilly terrain have been deftly incorporated into the course. Originally built in 1967, the golf course was completely redesigned in 2000 to make it more challenging while at the same time improving its playability. Since its renovation, it has garnered a local following but it is still one of the better kept secrets of Somerset County, making it likely that golfers will be able to play the golf course regardless of the day or time. In addition to the course, there is also a practice facility with a grass driving range, a bunkered practice green, and an expansive putting green. One reason Fox Hollow G.C. is a popular choice, besides the enjoyable layout, is the affordability it offers.

ProShop is kind, but Ranger followed the players like a hunter, monitoring and screaming.
Worth the drive
I drive 45 minutes to this course however the staff is very friendly and helpful, the course is a great layout challenging but fair. I highly recommend it!
Excellent design and very well maintained. Greens were beautiful and the rest of the course
Is wonderful. Views add to the experience. Staff was welcoming and they have a very nice clubhouse, but I think they are missing an opportunity w/food & beverage. It’s only open part time and a better F&B service would complete the outing. Really loved the course.
Playing here a must!
Played Fox Hollow this past Saturday! Just wanted to share how wonderful the staff was and the great shape of the golf course ⛳️ ! I would play here anytime. Evan and the staff at the bar are the best 👌🏾! Very good indoor/outdoor area for your 19th hole activities.
I would highly recommend Fox Hollow.
This course has great features especially the greens. Stay below the pin!
The course is always challenging and in great shape. Greens run true. Management has been accommodating and easy to work with regarding outings. Staff always friendly. Always recommend the course and can't wait to come back.
Never Again
First negative review I’ve ever posted. Slowest round of my 8 years of playing golf. Called the Pro shop twice. One thing to play a course without a ranger, not much you can do with a slow round. This course does have one. Every time I called letting them know we are two groups behind, they answer is “we know but there is a slow group and we don’t know what to do.”
We are 4 hours into the round and have played 13 holes. I am currently waiting behind a group on a par 3 whose still at the tee box.
Last time I’ll ever play this course. Absolutely brutal. It’s to bad because it’s a beautiful course. Absolute miserable management.
Grass Great, Sand Not
Fox Hollow does an excellent job maintaining its grass whether it’s tees, fairways, rough or greens. Unfortunately though, the bunkers were neglected. 5 days since the last rain and no traps were raked. Shame on management as the traps have potential to be outstanding. Wish the fours could be lengthened as well. Too many holes forced to lay up off the tee.
Beautiful round of golf in the fall
Staff was super friendly, allowed us to go out early before our tee time because course wasn’t packed. Excellent greens that are super fast. A birdie look could turn into a boogie in no time. Landscape looks stunning in the fall! Will definitely be back!
Very nice track
Course in great condition, fast firm greens. I always enjoy playing this course. I try to take my buddies here and we always have a great time. Staff does a great job maintaining this course.
Top notch
First time playing FH in a couple of years.
Terrific conditions. Greens were fast .
No doubt this is one of the best public courses in NJ.
Good bones
It’s a solid course. The bones of it are high quality - this isn’t some decently manicured pasture course, this is a course carved into the land, with wonderful elevation changes, water hazards, bunkering, and overall views. It’s a real golf course. The reason it’s not 5 stars is because the greens are only ok. The conditioning is fine, but their structuring is mediocre, with little creativity or thoughtfulness. Many of them simply run back to front, steeply, with no additional contouring. Additionally, 4 or 5 of the pin placements were silly when I played, set on the steepest slopes in the greens, and the ball would roll back to you if you didn’t hole the putt. That’s unacceptable.
The course could be great, though never long, as the property is too small, but it’s a beautiful plot. If they could put a few million into redoing the greens, it’d be one of the best options in Jersey. Still worth playing, but slightly disappointing as most aspects are excellent, excepting the greens.
Great experience
Played on a Monday, 1st group after an outing. Cart path only. Despite days of rain, the course wasn’t too wet. Rough was thick and treacherous. Soft greens held our approach shots well. Staff was friendly and accommodating, and even came out to practice green to tell us we were next up. I’d like to thank Taylor and Doug for their help. Will definitely play again.
Cut the Rough please
They need to cut the rough down a bit...I never had such a hard time finding golf balls in my life...on 17 I hit a drive down left center of fairaway that went thru fairway by 6 inches...and I almost couldnt find it (an intermediate cut would be nice too)...it was almost as if they were hosting a US amateur qualifying event...very thick and would sink down...since my driving was a little off that day, I paid dearly...took 2 minutes of driving around on cart to find my ball on almost every hole...and I usually found it within 10 yards of where I first started looking...with that said, we waited on every shot on every hole for group ahead, as did they...so play was was almost 6 hrs.
