Par 72
Length 7092 yards
Slope 137
Rating 72.6

West/North at Union League National Golf Club measures 7,092 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 137. Located on the Jersey Shore, Union League National G.C. earns its name with sand everywhere, in traps and bunkers. West/North gets the sand rolling on No. 4. Big hitters can make it to the green, but the rest have to navigate past an ocean of sand. The West/North ends with nine holes considered the toughest at Union League National. Two holes stand out: No. 16, a long par 4, and No. 18, a par 3 that requires a carry over a pond to a peninsula green.

Sand Barrens

Great time. Staff needs to be more friendly. Very run of the mill. Golf now treated somewhat like second class. Kid at end as club wipe was nicest person there. Great round. But didn't feel

Great course

Sand Barrens is a wonderful course that is a shot makers course. We sadly played it with aerated greens, so the two putt rule was put into play. I hope to get back and play it with great greens, but I know that I will pay big bucks then. They used a lot of sand on the cover and the holes were huge and bumpy.

Challenging, and fun

SandBarrens is a fun, challenging course. Play the "right" tees and you will enjoy your round and still have a lot of challenge. Being early in the season, it wasn't that crowded. Greens were bumpy as expected. Pro shop staff wonderful, and allowed discounted replay. An overall great day.

sand barrens

i loved this course, we played 36 holes in 4 and a half hrs!, greens are quite big, easy to hit, but not always an east 2 putt, you need to know where to hit your tee shots and how far, they dont call it SAND barrens for no reason, and the young man in the pro shop was just great, very refreshing change from the guy at habor pines!! very pleasant and informative, i will return many times!!

Sand Barrens now in good shape

This is an ultimate Jekyl and Hyde course. I've literally seen it in country club condition one week, and a month later be torn up. Fortunately, at the moment it's closer to the top end. Outside of some neglected traps, the course as a whole was in great shape. Only five golfers on the course and we only paid $30. A steal with a good hot deal.

Nice layout with good variation in holes. Generally flat but with lots of sand.

Generally safe areas to hit to although one side of the fairway often is trouble. Fair course and things that sometimes looked hard to do became easy when you really saw what was ahead of you. I was first person out so the quick play time may not be the rule.

A great play!

Loved this course although I picked an on-and-off rain day. Very good course to work on your targeting. If you fail there, you will be working on your sand game.

Course has come a long way in last 2 years.

Used to be a member 2 yrs ago, and was not in good shape back then due to numerous storms over the winter, but has now come fully back to good shape, Fairways are a little wet from rains lately, greens were excellent and rolled very true, all in all, very good experience.

Great course to play in October!

I booked on GolfNow and thought I was joining a 4-some. When I got there it was so empty the starter sent me off alone. The course was almost empty. A great gentleman and golfer joined me and we flew through the round in 3 hours. The course was in good shape, still some spots showing the wear of a harsh summer, but in overall good shape. Fair course, good greens, great value at the GolfNow price.

Interesting layout with plenty of trouble off the tee

Sand Barrens is aptly named as traps and waste areas abound. Feels like a links course but with the tree lined fairways of traditional courses. Tees, fairways and greens are in excellent condition. The course requires a lot of thought with each shot and you must be accurate off the tee. Go boldly for the pin because the greens are soft and receptive to approach shots.

Nice course

Been to AC/NJ a few time this year and have tried several courses, I am just learning the game and found this one to be challenging, plenty of sand traps to negotiate around.

Great Fall golf course!

Being a local it is expensive to catch a great course like Sand Barrens in the summer. Got out yesterday at 10AM and had the place to myself on a gorgeous fall day. Conditions were great and at $65 it was an incredible value.

They are trying........

Course conditions have been awful the last few years. I decided to give them a try, one to see if the reviews were true and two, help them out by playing. Bottom line, conditions were fair. You can clearly see they had issues again this year. With that said, you can see the effort being made to get things back. It may take them the rest of this year and early next to achieve their goal. Assuming that is their goal. The layout is interesting and fun. I hope they get back to where they were 5 – 6 years ago.

Unbelievabley Lousy Condition

besides aeration, lost greens, poorly maintained traps and soggy fairways, if you like these conditions, you'll love sand barrens. What use to be a decent course, is an absolute nightmare, not worth a dime of my money going forward. I will never play this pit again.
