The Foxfire is the original course at Foxfire Golf Club. It was later joined by the Players Club Course in 1993. Foxfire has a classic design that is slightly less challenging than its sister course but no less enjoyable. The fairways are more forgiving but there are strategically placed bunkers as well as lakes and streams that come into play on a number of holes in order to balance the more player-friendly features. The layout is demanding but fair. The golf course's signature is the lengthy penultimate hole that measures 629 yards from the tips. This uphill par 5 requires a tee shot past a creek and then an uphill approach shot to a green that is well guarded by water on the right and trees on the left.

Avoid

This course isn’t worth the time. Absolutely awful conditions. There isn’t grass in the fairways. The green are chewed to garbage and the sand traps are abysmal. 70% of the tee boxes don’t have grass in them. It’s a beautiful layout, but they clearly aren’t putting the time into the course

Red headed step child

Why do you not put money into a course that has such great potential? I love playing this course but it has been getting worse and worse condition wise for the last few years now. When I played this morning I noticed there were so many bear spots my friend and I had to place a disclaimer on any ground under repair issues so play was considered fair. I keep saying it but I’m following through with it... I can’t continue to play a course that doesn’t care about how the course looks but still find the need to increase the price each year. You honest don’t know what a gem you have. Stop making the regular course the red headed step child and I’ll be back.

Good Course, Poor Cart Paths

Friendly staff. Practice area is in good shape as was the course; most tee boxes were well maintained, green fairways, adequate rough depth and better than average conditioned greens. Mature trees along some holes provides a challenge, but is scenic. Driving a cart on the paths was challenging; lots of chunks and gravel. The transition from the path onto and off of bridges can be very bumpy.

Mature course with issues

Course is mostly flat with straight holes. Fairways are narrow with large trees on both sides of every fairway. Traps appear to have been abandoned although greens were in moderate condition - too early in season? Rough was a little deep - increase challenge? Most of the tee boxes were in need of a mowing. I am out of town and probably won't come back.

Total Burnout

Apart from the greens (which were nice), every thing about this course was burned out. Paid $29 on weekend, and that was probably $20 too much.

Tee boxes, Fairways, Rough....all dried out and terrible. Bunkers were hard as a rock. Yes, it was a hot and dry July, but other Columbus courses seem to have dealt with it ok.

Also, no ball washers or water coolers. Seems like a small complaint, but that's not a difficult thing to take care of.

They should just close down the Foxfire course for the rest of the year, and open it back up in better shape for 2017.

Took my son and his buddies to this course for a round during their Bachelor Party weekend before his wedding. Staff was very friendly and the course was in great shape.

Better hit it straight off the tee. (Old course)

This is golf course you can score on if you stay out of trouble off the tee. The greens are large and most are not terribly difficult. It's an older more traditional course. Not at all flashy or tricky. The course was in excellent shape, despite being a bit dry for a couple weeks. The bunkers are a bit suspect. Very firm. Not enough to sand in most of them. It's not terribly long from the tips, but it is very tight on a number of holes. I Managed to pull three drives dead left (my "normal" miss when my timing is a little off), into farmers fields. Twice on the front and one time on the back. Double, double, single bogey. 5 strokes in 3 holes. Ouch. Fortunately managed 4 birdies and an eagle to more than make up for it, but the claustrophobic fairways will definitely take their toll if you are not on your game. Everyone seems to want to play the more modern "players course", which is a nice course and a good test as well, but I must say, I found the old course quite enjoyable and a good test of skill. It was my first time on it and I will surely play it again this summer.

hit it straight

You're in trouble if you miss the fairways. Lot of trees making it difficult to recover if you miss the fairway. Keep it on the fairway and its not too rough.

Why?

How is it that you don't have ball washers? Fox fire isn't good enough for them. I know golf is for those who have money to spend but that course isn't that great. I've been a couple of times, but it's defiantly not my favorite.

Actually upgraded to Players Course, challenging even from the white tees. Bunkers could use attention. Great track.

Better than I thought it would be

Played their Player's Club course earlier in the year and figured the older Foxfire would be a "lesser" course. I was wrong. I liked it better. It's longer, more challenging, and has more old-course charm (tree-lined holes, elevation changes). If I had to choose between the 2 courses, I'd choose Foxfire (but Players is fun to play, too).

Pace of play was worst I experienced anywhere for last 3 years. Had to wait after every shot, left course after 9 holes, could not enjoy game from such slow play.

Great course

They were very busy and made the pace slow but the course was great and I had a lot of fun. The greens were fast and fairways was clean and groomed. Well worth the money.

Foxfire

It has a great layout with some holes being tight. Placement off the tee it required. The course was in very good shape and the greens were smooth and quick. My cousin and I had a great day and we'll definitely be back.

Not what I remember

It had been over 10 years since I played this course and I remember it being in better shape. Some of the greens needed work and I noticed things like broken or missing ball washers and broken benches along the course. This lack of repair gives the course a bit of a cheap appearance. Even with that, it was an enjoyable day of golf and a fun course to play.
