The Foxfire at Foxfire Golf Club
About
The Foxfire is the original course at Foxfire Golf Club. It was later joined by the Players Club Course in 1993. Foxfire has a classic design that is slightly less challenging than its sister course but no less enjoyable. The fairways are more forgiving but there are strategically placed bunkers as well as lakes and streams that come into play on a number of holes in order to balance the more player-friendly features. The layout is demanding but fair. The golf course's signature is the lengthy penultimate hole that measures 629 yards from the tips. This uphill par 5 requires a tee shot past a creek and then an uphill approach shot to a green that is well guarded by water on the right and trees on the left.

Not as good as I remember it
Bads: Tee boxes were surprisingly scruffy and uncut. Fairways were decent but many dandelions in rough. Sand traps were mostly rock hard and untended...not much sand.
Goods: Greens are big and fairly fast for a public course. Some interesting holes and pace of play excellent.
Overall: These are the old Red and Gray courses. I hadn't played these in 20 years and these two 9 hole courses were just not in as good a shape as I remember.
Good shape
The course was in very good shape especially with all the rain we've had. The wait was about 30-40 minutes longer than reserved tee time but it was crowded and everyone was moving as fast as possible. Play on course was a bit slow but again it was busy. All in all, great time
Very nice
The only playable course in the area with all the rain
Forfire - windy day
Enjoyed playing this course for the first time. My golf partner had played here before so that helped. Windy day buy course was in good shape. The sand bunkers were hard as a rock and looked like they not been cared for in a while. Loved the different looks at every tee box. Fairways and greens were in good shape. Got a GREAT price so will play again if price is right.
Excellent course for the price
This was a great place to play at a very reasonable price, staff was friendly and helpful, I played on a Sunday afternoon and spent very little time waiting on the group ahead of me and was not rushed by anyone playing behind me. The greens were in great shape, good speed and plenty of slopes. Best of all, I was able to play alone instead of being grouped with 3 complete strangers like all the other courses in the area have done. I will go back every chance I get and would recommend it to anyone.
Range and 18 holes
The par threes are fun on this course. The tee boxes were chewed up. I went early (8:20) and the sun was brutal. Couple holes your looming right into it and I was by myself so the tee shot was hard to find. I lost a few that weren't in fairway. The cart I had was loud and broken. It's arm supporting the top was missing a bolt.
The range was chewed up too. There was a kid fixing all the divots left by precious people. The grass was crazy high and the markers aren't labeled so I didn't know really how far I was hitting. Just if straight or not. If your right off the tee on hole 6 you will be mixed in with all the range balls. The green on hole 8 was also littered with range balls from shanked shots. Got all excited that I hit a great shot and on green. Nope. Range ball. I was short. Hole 9 is a favorite.
foxfire the players club
This course was very difficult. For a short time we had to stay on cart path this increases the challenge
Nice course to play to get some golf in
Of course playing on Labor Day came with the fact of it being very crowded. The starter did pair us with another group which was ok and understandable. It helped that the other two guys were fantastic. Even with the course being crowded we still got done in just over 4 hours. Staff is always fantastic and the course is still in good shape, but you can tell that the greens have been getting some use mixed in with players for some reason not repairing divots. I have always enjoyed playing Foxfire and will continue to.
Labor Day Golf
Play was a little slow, but that's to be expected on a holiday. Back nine moved much quicker than the front.
I'd play it again for cheap.
I would like another crack at this course. Went early and fog was bad. They still made us go out and it was tough hitting to a spot and hoping your ball was there. They layout doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Putting the 150 marker out there and you would assume you could aim for that and be safe over. Not the case. Definitely review the holes. Surprise water in places. Tee boxes and greens were below par. A bit tore up.
Let down
Not a terrible but not worth the cost. Could be fun if it was in better shape. Greens, tee boxes and fairways were pretty bad. Sand traps were filled with water or pure mud. Not worth the $29 green fee.
Club house, bar and beverage carts were great though. Very friendly and efficient. Saw the cart girls 6 times on the round.
good par 5's on the back 9
tee boxes were ok. greens on back 9 were either overseeded or recently aerated. fairways were in good shape. overall, not a baad way to spend a day.
Solid value
Played on a weekday morning. Quick pace course in good shape. Very good value. Will play it again.
Not to bad just frustrating.
The course is in very nice condition. The issue I have is watering the course at 11am and having to skip 3 holes because the maintenance workers just left the sprinklers running and they did not apologize or even care if I was on the hole. Just struck me wrong.
Leave your driver in the bag
Hitting a long shot off the tee just wont work on this course... it is placement off the tee. If you can hit the narrow fairways w/o having a tree in your approach shot, you will score great. Enjoy
Great day at Fox Fire
A very nice golf course that will challenge all golfers. Quick greens and a handful of tight fairways. A really well designed course that any one would enjoy who loves golf.
Fairly challenging
I like the course but would like it better if
1. Better maintenance of the course - just too many weeds even on the tee box
2. First cut is so thick you can't find your ball unless you are almost standing on it.
