The Foxfire at Foxfire Golf Club
About
The Foxfire is the original course at Foxfire Golf Club. It was later joined by the Players Club Course in 1993. Foxfire has a classic design that is slightly less challenging than its sister course but no less enjoyable. The fairways are more forgiving but there are strategically placed bunkers as well as lakes and streams that come into play on a number of holes in order to balance the more player-friendly features. The layout is demanding but fair. The golf course's signature is the lengthy penultimate hole that measures 629 yards from the tips. This uphill par 5 requires a tee shot past a creek and then an uphill approach shot to a green that is well guarded by water on the right and trees on the left.

Schedule whole day off.
Pace of play was beyond horrendous. Seems like they double booked the entire day. 15 minute wait on every tee box while watching TWO groups in front tee off. After 3 holes in 1 hour I called clubhouse and asked for a refund to no avail. I love this game, but I have limits. This was over the line, and I'll never be back to Fox Fire. The day a round of golf takes 6+ hours is the day I find a new hobby.
Course was in decent shape other than a few dead spots on every green. It's probably a nice place to play if your retired and have nothing to do until your next scheduled round of golf.
Great Value; Course has some challenge
A great late afternoon / early evening of golf. Course was not crowded and we could play at a nice pace, considering we had many wayward shots. The greens were not as fast as they had been in the past, but the course had taken a lot of rain in the days prior. The bunkers were not so good and unplayable with water standing. It was fun to play and I'd play the course again for the price.
FoxFire- The Players Club
Course was in great condition. Pace of play slowed up pretty quick. Starters/Rangers may need to monitor flow of play throughout course better. Greens played fast and tough as the day went on. 14-16 is one of the toughest 3 hole stretches on a public as I have seen. #8 still haunts me, and is a ball devourer. Other than the pace of play, and not seeing the cart girl for refreshments that often, it was a great outing.
Holiday back up
The staff was friendly but resigned to the slow play that awaited on the holiday. The staff showed obvious interest in our experience that day, and they could only do so much to speed the pace of the outing of five foursomes in an outing of novice golfers ahead of us. Hats off to the staff for their courtesy and positive attitude. The course was in good shape. It rewarded good shots and did not overly punish mishits. Enjoyed the day.
5 1/2 hours
Talk about overbooking. After a 3 hr. front nine, the ranger suggested playing the front nine over. Luckily, the group ahead of us accepted. The back nine "only" took 2 1/2 hours. Disappointing to say the least.
Fun Course
Played with old friend for the first time this year. It is more friendly to the average golfer than it's counterpart Player's Club. We had a fun time and the course conditions were good, rough was thick and easy to lose ball in. Greens rolled nice in afternoon when dried out.
Get What You Pay For
Paid $29 to ride 18 on the weekend-- you get what you pay for. While greens were in good condition, fairways, rough, teeboxes, and bunkers were in terrible shape. At times tough to discern the difference between the fairway and rough.
Course was challenging
The conditions made it hard. Long grass in the fairway and really long grass in the rough
Pleasantly surprised!
Very nice course, tucked away in Lockbourne. Course was in better condition than a lot of championship courses I played. Staff was friendly and overall was a great day of golf. Back 9 has some water holes and can be a little challenging. Greens were in great shape.
Awesome Golf
Change us from foxfire to player club with no extra charge very thankful for the treat
This course is always fun to play, friendly staff.
The course was in pretty good shape,we had a real bad winter. They keep the course in good shape all year. It's always fun to play.
Good value
I have played this course several times over the years, as well as the Players' Club at the same location. The Foxfire course has always been in pretty good shape, although the condition of the bunkers was extremely poor. The drive is short from Hilliard, and I enjoy playing courses that are quiet and give me the feeling that I have gotten away from the city.
Great course for the Money
Can't beat the value of this course. If your looking for a more challenging course they also have "The Players Club" course that is extremely challenging.
Very disappointed
I have played Players Club many time over the past 15 years and really enjoy it...It is always well maintained. I took my son to play Foxfire as it is a little easier and was VERY disappointed. The tee boxes were either dirt or there was only weeds present. The fairways were mostly dirt with little grass. The green were actually pretty good, but very hard. It appeared that the course had not been watered or fertilized in quite some time.
Foxfire GC needs a lot of attention
Greens at Foxfire were in good shape. Tee boxes and fairways were in very, very poor shape - lots of grabgrass and weeds filling in where grass has died and ground was extremely dry and hard. Fairways and tee boxes were aerated but until the grass recovers (may not be until spring 2014?) the course is not very playable compared to many others in the Columbus area.
This course needs some attention
I understand this was a busy course, however, most of the tee boxes had very little to no grass on them. It was just dirt wishing for some grass to hold it together.
Greens and fairways well maintained.
Good play, average to low maintenance
The course is good. The layout is nice. However, the maintenance on the tee boxes (women’s especially) was not great. A lot of crab grass, dead areas and divots present throughout the hole layout. The greens were alright, some had dead grass and the actual holes themselves need work. The rims of most holes were in poor condition. Not a bad course for $25. I think some care and maintenance on the tee boxes and greens is in order.
Glad I got a discount!
I played Foxfire, not Players in August. Glad I got the discount, should have asked for a refund. Way too much crab grass in fairways, tee boxes were dead or bare, greens had way too many ball marks for the time of day we played. Course does not maintain a good pace of play.
Never a good lie...
This is the first golf course I played where the ball never had a decent lie. It seems every ball managed to find a bald spot in the grass. These were not divots. They are actually spots where no grass exists, but the grass around it is high. It was incredibly difficult to get a club down through the grass and under the ball and then through the grass on the other side.
The superintend seems to compensated for this by allowing the grass to grow high. That created new problems - such as lost balls right off the fairways. Add to that, when the grass is mowed, quite a bit of grass clippings remain, making finding a long ball (and even a short ball), more difficult.
I really enjoyed the layout of the course. A marquee hole is a par 5 with a large tree in the guarding, er blocking, the green. If you hit the fairway between 100 yards and back, getting the ball to the green is a real challenge. I played very far right leaving a second shot 280 yards out. Of course my second ball was in a bald spot...
FUN DAY OVERALL
OVERALL IT WAS FUN, THIS WAS MINE & MY NEPHEWS 5TH TIME, I ALSO BROUGHT 4 NEW GUYS. JUST IT SEEMED LIKE EVERY ONE WAS IN A HURRY, WHEN THIS ACCURES, YOUR AVERAGE PLAYER CAN GET FUSTRATED, WICH WILL MAKE THEM NOT ENJOY THEMSELVES, OR THE GAME. I LET A FEW PLAYERS, PLAY THREW, THEN HAD SOME LIKE RIGHT ON US, & HITTING WHEN THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE .
