Pipestone Golf Club
About
Pipestone Golf Course is an Arthur Hills design that has been acclaimed as the best public course in the Dayton area. The name of the course comes from blue clay soil that is buried deep in the ground. The native Indians of the area would use it for making pottery and they would call it pipestone. Nestled amongst rolling hills, the golf course offers plenty of elevation changes. The undulating greens and fairways are kept in immaculate condition but they rarely offer a flat lie. The front nine is particularly challenging with several holes that are framed with tress and crisscross over the same creek. Pipestone Golf Course's second hole is one of the toughest with a water hazards and a fairway that is severely sloped right to left.

Nice track!
We really enjoyed this course, great layout, great variety, great condition.
They had gotten a ton of water the night before so it was a bit soggy in places but the course and the greens seemed to cope well. Some bunkers were washed out but that can be expected the day after such a downpour.
We had a bit of bad luck playing the day they aerated but adjusted, cleaned our balls and lies.
I bet their regular course condition is a 5 but today it's a weak 4 due to the wet grounds and aerating.
The greens are fantastic, quick and true, we had a hard time adjusting and many three putts later we got better.. not upset since it was the player, not the greens!
The food and drink was great so was the staff.
EXCEPT for two course workers (who brought the score from an easy 5 to a doubtful 3 on staff.) As we played number 6 they were aerating the fairways up by the green. The worker waved us up, to play, but continued to drive his equipment in front of the green where we were hitting. My brother hit a poor shot and I can understand why. Later we crossed over to where they were driving and as I was addressing my ball he drove past me maybe 10 yards away over and over covering us in a thick cloud of dirt dust as I tried to play. We had dirt floating in our cups. This obnoxious driving continued as we chipped and putted out with absolutely no tact or regard, I'm not on the PGA Tour but COM'N!
Great course though and we'll go back.
Terrible Staff Interactions..Will never go back!!
Was ran off three separate greens by the guy cutting them. One I was standing beside the green getting ready to chip and he, without even looking at me, drove onto the green and started cutting. I understand they have a job to do but being that without a paying customer you don't have a job. They might want to rethink this strategy. Calmly told the gentlemen at the front desk when I came in and he couldn't care less. The staff having these types of attitudes means I will never go back and play this course. I will also be telling this story to others that I play with.
Pace
Pace of play wasn’t the best, started us on 10 because there was an outing and everything was just jammed up but that’s everywhere anymore. Course was phenomenal as expected!
Pipestone’s Good
Pipestone is in good shape. Rough starting to dry out a bit but that is typical for courses at this time of year.
Hawk
Always enjoy playing this course. Today I was no match. My only beef is the rough length, I ended up losing 2 new balls that seemed like they should have been very findable but trying to be a good steward for pace of play I abandoned the search
Father’s Day Tradition
Being from the area, I have played this course when I was kid. Coming back 16 years later, this course was challenging and well maintained. The greens were lightning fast and the rolling hills of the course really tests your ability to play on slopes. I had a really great time as far playing the course but the pace of play was very very slow. I’m not much of a player that complains about pace of play but sitting at the 16th tee box for 20 minutes was brutal. I would recommend this course if you are looking for a good challenge if you are in the Dayton area.
Monday round!
Me and my neighbor had almost the entire course to ourselves! Great time and finished well before we would have on a weekend tee time.
Nice course, well kept
Thoroughly enjoyed our play. We were paired up with another couple and it went well. The only negative was the group in front of us played very slow and we waited on nearly every hole.
Beautiful and challenging course
Rough was higher than most comparable courses which made finding errant shots more challenging. Overall, course was in great shape, plus we got done in 3 5 hours with a 9am tee time.
Just go play
This is a fun challenging course, in great condition. The slope and rating are lower than I expected.
Nice layout
loved the undulating greens.
top of the line carts
The course was not very well kept. THe grass was so long that even when hitting your ball straight, you couldn't find the ball because the grass was so long. It couldn't be because of rain. Other courses in the area are not that long. Was disappointed with it being our first time there. When you would hit the ball over a hill and couldn't follow your ball, you could never find it even though you knew around about where it landed. Grass was way to high and unkept on all holes.
Keep it in the fairway
Tough round. Fairways were firm and fast. I knew the fairways were on the narrow side to begin with going in. I was looking for a challenge and I got it. What I did not expect was the super thick three and a half to four inch rough. I left at least two sleeves behind that were definitely in play. My group averaged five minutes of searching for every ball that missed the fairway. I can easily see how pace of play can get out of hand pretty quick here. Staff was great. Maybe I’ll try again if my handicap ever gets to single digits.
Good course
Good course. Little muddy here on a 60 degree day in February. Stuck a lot of balls. #18 is very tough.
