Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Ohio (2014 #13)
Reviews
nice place great staff
Beautiful golf course unfortunately heavy rains through the night made it's mark with lots of water. The wet course did not deter us as we throughly enjoyed the day and am looking forward to coming back to play next spring.
Great course well maintained slow play
Course was immaculate. Well maintained and manicured. Play was a bit slow. My issue was the starter/ranger yelled at us when we were waiting on the group in front of us, who were waiting on the group in front of them, etc. Know the situation before you speak, especially to customers paying $60 to play golf.
Excellent Course Great for all levels of play
Country Club setting and staff that the average Joe can play. Fair rates especially for the quality of course conditions and clubhouse.
$75 for less than $50
Great course. Tough and tight but capable of giving up a good round if you're hitting it solid. Will be going back soon.
Typical Hills
I have played five Hills courses and they are quite similar. Difficult greens, large well-placed traps, and luxurious clubhouses. I played during a light rain which caused most shots to plug and made the traps useless (they were the consistency of oatmeal). The trees were not a design factor. Interestingly, the practice green has little break, while the course greens have a lot of slope. I would suggest putting some money into drainage and hiring a ranger to keep things moving.
Best Cource in Central Ohio
This has always been one of my favorite courses. Even at this early time of the season it was well kept and the greens were fast and rolled true. Once of my biggest complaints of course that are costly is that they do not take care of the traps. This time was no different, all the traps had good sand in them and raked for tournament conditions. They saying holds true, you get what you pay for.
Drains poorly
The course was soaked and doesn't drain well at all. We were looking for balls on every hole which added time to the round. Great layout and course when the course isn't soaked.
Great Course, Hidden Gem!
Granted we played very early in the season so the course was not in peak condition but I can only imagine how amazing it is when the trees fill in, being that the holes are all tree lined and set up beautifully. The course is very challenging but not absurd. the staff was GREAT probably the most friendly and genuine staff I have ever dealt with at a course. This may be my new favorite course in Central Ohio!
Favorite Course in Central Ohio
This is a great course and my favorite. The layout is primarily tree lined and allows for very little interference with other golfers on separate holes. Fairways were great shape and greens were very good. Bunkers nice as well. Even though its fall and leaves are falling the course was very much on top of the leaf cleanup situation. Never had trouble locating an errant shot.
This is a must play course.
Best experience in central Ohio without belonging to a private course.
Took my cousin here for his birthday. It is exactly what there motto says it is, "Public golf on a Private Course." This place is breathtaking in its beauty and difficulty. You are rewarded for good decision and shot making. Penalized for the opposite. Worth every penny and even more if you get a HotDeal. If it's available, do it.
Graet Arthur Hill design.
The course was in good shape and the greens were particularly well kept for a public course.
Beautiful course
This was truly a treat. A fairly tight course through woodlands with nicely placed water throughout the course. From tee to green everything was in excellent condition.
Fun to play
Very fair course. greens in great shape. Very weill maintained
A beautiful Arthur Hills designed course, well worth the cost
Winding Hollow is a typical Arthur Hills course, designed to identify the better golfer. Most greens are elevated, so you can't run the ball onto the green.
Greens are a little slow, due to recent rain, which caused us to use cart paths and rough only. Rough is extremely penal, you get zero roll once the ball hits the rough.
All in all, this is an excellent course, well worth a higher than normal golfnow rate.
One of the best public courses around Columbus with a great variety of holes.
One of the best public courses around Columbus with a great variety of holes. Well maintained including the sand traps which are normally and after thought at other public courses.
Club-like quality, very accessible
pace was terrific, even though other golfers were on the course. had rained but course drains well so there wasn't much casual water. Nice test. rough falls away from the fairways. Can be punished for missing a fairway, but not always. Nice layout. Well attended and kept. Visually very attractive. If WH was a club i would consider joining. Friendly and helpful staff. Really enjoy playing here.
Great deal on GolfNow for this course.
The course was in great shape -- though a little wet/soggy in spots (even without any rain for a week or so).
The greens aren't what they were in the past -- but, still in great shape. Bunkers were great, fairways great, rough was thick but fair.
All in all, great course. My buddy and I got a great deal on Golf Now so made it even better. I'm a huge fan of this course and will continue to come back (have played a few times a year for the past 3 years). Really feel like you're at a country club.
Challenging course in great condition, friendly staff , well worth playing.
Beautiful course to play. Once you tee off it is just you and the trees and the fairways and greens. Good amenities and very friendly on-course staff. Great pace of play for a Saturday afternoon. Keeping the ball in the fairway is key on this course. Very challenging and enjoyable to play. Bring some extra golf balls. Looking forward to playing here again.
Beautiful course, challenging holes and greens
Well worth the drive and money. Was beautifully maintained. The staff and service was great as well. A wonderful experience was had by all.
