SSSLLLOOOWWWW!!!!
Want a 6+ hour round this is the place for you. Pace of play is the WORST I have encountered in a few years. Greens are in good shape so they have that going for them...
Driver / Pitching wedge
My complaint with Shawnee Lookout was that many of the holes were 310 - 350, which meant I hit driver and wedge. Greens were nice and receptive. The par 3s were 130, 230, 120 & 150. The par 5 449 double dogleg was interesting although I lost my tee shot trying to cut the corner. I would play here again because for $26 it's a nice little course
The greens were in great shape.
The fairways were ok the greens were in wonderful shape. They were the nicest greens I played on all year long.
Nice greens. Very challenging.
Most of course seems to be in good shape. The men's tees are well maintained and nice but, the ladies tees need some work. Some of them are not even level.
Course needs work
I've play this course many times, but the first of 2013. Greens were in good shape, but spongy. They need to be rolled. Fairways really need some attention, junk grass starting to take over fairways. Very disappointing to see
A Very Nice Change of Pace!
Far more hilly than most Cincinnati area courses. Well maintained and the greens were excellent.
White (middle) tees provide an honest challenge for "less than excellent" golfers while still allowing approaches with short to middle irons in most, but certainly not all, cases if you are driving it into the fairway or close to the fairway.
A fair test and enough different to be lots of fun as an occasional change of pace.
Challenging course, bring extra golf balls
The course was in good condition. Front nine plays easier than the back nine. Rare to have a second shot where the ball is not either above or below your feet even in the fairways. Not much water on the course but the are plenty of trees to make many shots a challenge. Do not try to walk this course...extremely hilly.
Tough by fair ...
A Hamilton County Course ... so don't forget your pass before you leave your house ... otherwise you'll have to buy a day pass to get in.
Otherwise, it had been quite some time (10+ years since I had played there ... the course has extreme elevation changes and isn't a course for long hitters. It's tough but challenging for the average golfer ... despite the lack of rain recently, was very well maintained ... I dare say the greens were overly slow and overwatered ... but that's better than the alternative.
friendly staff. course nice with all holes set apart from other fairways
overall nice course with scenic holes. grass a little too long.
Great value
Were it not for this site, we would have never played this course. The course felt like we were in the middle of nowhere but was only 20-25 minutes from my home. Very quiet, not a ton of golfers, and able to play at our own pace. The course was very well maintained. I would absolutely recommend this course.
Well maintained greens
Great variations of holes in layout, design, and difficulty. Will be playing again. Only downfall was dandelions had sprouted and made ball location challenging.
Fairways need work!!!
The overall condition of the golf course is pretty well maintained, but the fairways definitely need work. In many instances you can drive the fairway, yet can hardly tell if it is fairway or light rough. This course needs added markers for distance...if you don't have a golfcaddy GPS, GOOD LUCK!
Easy fairways with difficult greens makes for fun and intriguing round.
The fairways are relatively open and easy to hit. The greens have a lot of play in them and the hole locations add to the difficulty, making putting a fun challenge after a relatively easy tee and approach shot. The course is also very well maintained.
fun to play if you like hills
the course was in excellent shape and was fun to play. we are seniors and for sume the terrain was challenging to negiotiate even with riding carts because you cant ride everywhere. kthe greens are generally sloped and moderately fast.. you need to be very careful with downhill puts or you could be chipping back.
HILLY, yet fun and challenging!
This course has begun to grow on me...you have to play it a few times to appreciate the hills (mostly off-camber). It's well maintained and not usually busy, so you can typically count on a nice relaxing game. The staff is great--Charlie and Sonny are always fun to chat with as they make their rounds around the course. Really enjoy the laid-back atmosphere...thanks!
Some greens and tee boxes need attention due to dry weather and heat.
Like the course but some spots need attention, Staff are friendly and it's a pretty place to play golf.
Scenic, but some holes border on being unfair
I played this course alot in my younger years because you could ALWAYS walk on here and play. It's a very pretty scenic course with alot of interesting holes, but three of the last four holes border on being unfair in my personal opinion which is why I no longer play here. The issues start with the Double dogleg Par 5 15th hole which gives you a very tight area to land your tee shot and then your second shot is uphill to a layup area that is normally saturated from water runoff which makes your little chip into the green less than a fun experience. Next up is the dreaded 16th hole which is the most unfair hole on the course. It's long and uphill, but the unfair part is that the entire fairway slopes from right to left at a pretty severe angle into a treeline. If you cannot hit a long controlled slice off the tee, you're dead- period. 17 is ok- an uphill Par 3 that isn't easy but it's a fair hole. 18 is a different story though. The Par 5 #18th gives you an inviting look to pound your drive but if you hit it too well you are dead there too because your ball will carry down the hill into a creek that eats many a good drive- something that a person who is unfamiliar with the course would not anticipate when standing on the tee.
The rest of the course is alot of fun, but the holes I detailed here always sucks the fun out of the round for me which I why I do not play this course anymore but the place is pretty and the staff has always been very nice- I just wish they could reconfigure the 15th, 16th and 18th holes so they were more playable.
