Split Rock Golf Club
About
Split Rock Golf Club was carved from the rolling countryside of northern Pickaway County. Its picturesque design is perfectly in sync with the natural surroundings. Designed by the local design team of Michael Hurzdan and Dana Fry, the golf course actually required little manipulation since much of the challenge comes from the natural features of the undulating terrain. The layout has slightly different nines that offer a diversity that appeals to a range of skill levels. The front nine is more open and forgiving while the back nine has tighter fairways that are lined with trees. Water is not a prominent presence at Split Rock Golf Club but it does come into play. In addition to the golf course, golfers are welcome to use the driving range and putting greens before teeing off.

The Rock
Split rock is an excellent value for good golf in the Columbus area. Course conditions are a little rough right now with it being the start of the season and the unpredictable weather, but the greens were in great shape and it was still a great round. Hidden gem worth the short drive from downtown.
Could’ve told me
Had a league playing back 9 as we made the turn. Could’ve told us. We’d have play back 1st instead of front twice.
Nice layout south of Columbus
I. Have been trying to play every course in central Ohio
This one is 25 miles from where I live
It was a very hot day
I ended up playing 9 by myself and okayed front 9 none 2-3 balls per hole
The layout I believe Michael hurzdan design is very nice
The condition was average at best
Some of the holes from back tees were a great challenge long par 4 and very long 630 par 5
Staff very friendly
It’s alright
Course was in decent shape and a joy to play. Unique challenges made it interesting.
Conditions left a lot to be desired. Greens were damaged and sand was unplayable.
$40 for 18 is a bit steep for the conditions but is average for Columbus courses.
Would play again, but not my first choice.
We're glad you enjoyed the challenge Split Rock Golf Club has to offer!
Ranger is racist.
Ranger is racist. There was a bachelor party in front of us playing golf that was moving slow and wreckless. He approached us after they played hole 14 and wrecked their cart and was injured due to horseplay. He approached us and told us to hurry up because there were people behind us when we had been waiting 13 holes. I’ll let him know it was not us it was a group ahead of us and he did not acknowledge that.
Not a good value
As a senior golfer, I was disappointed to find out that I had paid regular rate rather than the Senior rate paid by the rest of my group. To add salt to the wound, the greens were really chewed up. Large patches of bare spots and nobody was fixing their ball marks. There are a lot of nicer courses in the Columbus, Ohio area that charge less money and offer a better value. Truly disappointed.
P.S. Make sure you verbally tell them you are a senior.... Being 70 years old isn't obvious to the counter-men....

Decent public course
Amenities are only partially the courses fault. With the pandemic you can not enter the club house for safety but what is there fault is that there is only 1 porta-potty to use. On a busy Sunday morning 1 toilet for that many people is not near enough. We got caught behind 2 slow groups and the rangers did nothing to change it. It appeared that the rangers sit on two different holes and pay zero attention to what is going on. The course is in pretty good shape overall, they have a few bad spots on greens but with proper pin placements they can be out of play. Fairways are in pretty good shape but are a mandatory to hit because a lot of the rough is like hitting off concrete. Keep it in the short grass and you will have a pretty good day.
Super solid!
Moved here from Indiana looking for a new course. Found it in split rock. A little in the country but the staff is always super nice and the course lay out is very fun! Some of the course is a little dry and some of the greens a little chewed up but overall a super solid course! This may be my main course of play from now on!

They had rangers out but they didn’t ever seem to speed up the groups

Much to be desired
I understand the fact that we played during COVID. We arrived an hour early to find out once there that the driving range was closed. The guys in the pro shop and the starter were very friendly. However they had paired us with another two-some, which we felt was uncool. They were kind enough to allow us to tee of early and play as just a two-some per our request, due to COVID. The turf was sparce, if any at all in places. Reviews online stated that some say they have the best greens around. I feel bad for those people. Ball marks galore covering the greens. Once we finished nine within a decent time and go to turn, there were us and two other groups on 10's tee box. From there the pace of play went way down hill. We waited on every single tee box and most fairway shots. We didn't even play the 18th hole since we were just over it. There were three groups on the box at that time.
This was not my best golfing experience, nor my worst. However there was a lot that could be better about the course.
We are sorry to learn you did not enjoy your golfing experience as much as expected this time around. In your review we do see areas we could improve when it comes to the pace of play, and due to COVID-19 we want to make sure groups are spaced enough and some waiting can occur. We hope you'll give us another shot in the future.
We're happy to see you had an excellent time at Split Rock Golf Club!
