Traditions
We had a great time playing the course. It was in great condition. We played late in the day, so pace of play was great. Improvement could be where you check in, cart drop location and parking
Great round
Course was in great shape, greens were fast but held well. Fairways were clean and minimal wet spots after a week of solid rain
very hilly
Lots of fun to play, very pretty course, but you must play hills well to enjoy the course.
Course was very good
Course was in good shape, was not overcrowded. It is a bit hilly if you were going to walk, although distance from green to tee is very good.
Elevations at The Glenn
Best course to go rip your driver as many times in one round that I have ever played. The fairways were generous enough. Almost every hole has a severe elevation change whether it was up hill or down hill or sometimes both. The higher elevations often created some great views of the course and surrounding area. Some of the landing areas were steep enough that I had a couple initially long drives that rolled 30 to 50 yards back toward the Tee I hit from. Never seen that before on any course. Although you would still have to factor in the slope/amount of elevation change whether up hill or down hill on almost every shot, this course could greatly benefit if they had GPS on the carts. With GPS on the carts a golfer could at least make a better calculation by using an accurate distance and then in there mind deciding how much the elevation change, whether up or down, would effect their club choice. I played it Old School style by eye as far as club choice. I was wrong more often than I was right which made it challenging to not become frustrated. There were 200-150-100 yard markers spray painted on the cart paths but we found no yardage indications on any of the sprinkler heads, so we had to estimate and or guess what yardage we had to the pin on the par 4's or lay up areas in the case of the par 5's. Although it is not a long course according to the overall total distance the up hill shots make it play much longer. It is also a course where you will probably need hit almost every club in your bag. I know I did. I like that in a course.
Collectively, the par 3's were the most challenging group of par 3's I have ever played on one course. A couple of the par 3's might be considered average difficulty, but the difficulty of the other par 3's more than made up for them. I think a couple of the par 3's were more difficult to score a 3 on than a couple of the par 4's.
There was only one green that had a fairly large browned out section, but overall the greens were relatively green and plush for May 12th in Upstate NY. The greens were difficult to read for me and the golfer I was paired up with. They break a lot less than they appear to break which we kind of knew after 3 or 4 holes but did not commit to for about 12 or 13 holes because I think we were worrying about the inconsistent speed between each green and struggling with that enough that whether a putt broke 6 inches or 2 feet wasn't as important at mis-judging the speed of the green by 4 to 15 feet in some cases. We also commented on noticing that although the greens looked to be in fairly good condition our shorter and or slower putts did not roll as true as a golfer would prefer. The un-true roll reminded me of a course I used to play in Florida that we used to say: Only 25% of your perfect putts go in the hole.
Overall, I enjoyed playing the course very much. I think if a golfer played this course often they would learn through trial and error what club to hit from certain areas they have been in or shot from before. I'm fairly confident that I would score about 10 strokes better the next time I play it using what I learned from playing it yesterday. I will play it again. Most likely a few times this season. I love to grip and rip my driver and this is my new favorite course for that. Slightly funky to navagate between holes because the location of the club house has been changed so it wasn't designed like it might have been if it was designed with the club house/Pro Shop in it's current location.
fairways great
Some greens had been aerated with sand but we played well anyway
Friendly Staff, Nice Course
Staff was super cordial, the course from tee to green was well manicured and the "normally" slick greens were made a little more difficult given the recent aeration.
Course in very good shape, lots of elevation changes.
Enjoyed playing after Labor Day where winter maintenance had not yet been underway (aeration, sand treatment, etc.) Our threesome could've played in under 4 hours except for slow play in front of us (no marshalls). Course has snack station accessible from a central vantage point within 5 holes, including bathrooms, all situated at about farthest point from clubhouse (well thought out). Carts recommended. This is a former IBM Country Club facility so the "Tradition" is well preserved.
A Gem in the Glen....
Traditions offer every challenge that a golfer is looking for....along with scenic view of the valley. Well groomed and consistent greens make it one of the best values in the southern tier area.
The course is different from others I've played but well kept.
This was my first round on this course. I was confused where some of the tees were but fortunately I met up with some great folks that showed me where to go. I am a short hitter and shouild have played from the gold tees. I didn't expect to score very well abd proved that right. The greens were pretty quick but I probably putted better than usual. Enjoyed the treatment by the staff and the great twosome I oaired with. Recommend playing.
Course takes advantage of natural features in the layout.
The natural hills, trees, ponds and creeks are brought into play on many holes. These are augmented with strategically placed sand traps to make each hole unique and challenging.
Nice course
Overall great conditions and well maintained course. Enough obstacles to keep it interesting. Staff routinely driving around course to ensure everyone is playing to their liking.
Excellent Course in Great Condition
Group tee'd off at 7:32am, course was in great shape, greens rolled true. Not the longest course but there was trouble looming if you got too aggressive looking to take shortcuts. I would recommend this course to anyone in the area.
Very hilly which adds to course's toughness.
I really liked this course. It was challenging to play due to the changes in elevation but that added to the enjoyment. Great course!
