fun from the tips
The Monster is very different for the fact of where it is. It's in the middle of a defunct Catskill resort. Weird to get to and weirder checking in because you must drive to proshop, check in and then drive to the first tee where you are given a cart. Once you are on the course there is nothing strange and it's a real test but not unfair. Close to 7,700 yards but all the holes have ample room to hit. Loved the course and plan on going back to try it again.
Most beautiful course in the Catskills
Never had a bad day here. Great course for a great price. Very challenging. Well kept and pleasant staff.
Simply a great golf course
Everyone's talks too much about the length of the Monster and not enough about the fantastic layout. Think Bethpage Black but with a better layout, and not in as good of shape. One needs to constantly think their way through the course due to the water and bunkering. On top of all this a great value.
Great value
My wife and I play here about once a week in the summer. There is a driving range, putting green, practice bunker and you can pitch and chip onto the green. Very often my wife remarks that it is so nice to play on our very own private course, because we might not see any other players. This is one of my favorite courses in the U.S.
Amazing track
The Monster, as well as Grossinger's, are true gems. Anyone that loves golf and live in the tri-state area should play BOTH, ASAP!
My father and I got to the Concord at 3:30 and were all alone on the course. It rained but we roughed it out, because the course is worth it.
The par 3's are bears. Course is EXTREMELY LONG! extremely fun
Have your "A" Game or Else
Stunning Vistas and 7000+ yards make this a very challenging course. It's been maintained even thou the hotel is gone and the area has seen better days. There are a couple of greens that need attention but overall a great challenge.
The Monster is still alive, it just needs a little CPR.
The course lay out is still spectacular, the course stretches out to a mind blowing 7600 yds from the tips. The greens are huge and well guarded, and in great shape. I can not remember the last time that I had so many putts over 75 feet.
Now for the bad, and it is not a long list:
The bunkers need attention, hard and rocky. To their deffense we have had a lot of rain lately.
But the worst thing about this course is the CART PATHS, they have not been replaces since the rat pack walked them 50 yrs ago! They are truely undrivable, through most of the course.
Also, the kid up in the club house was very nice and polite, while the older gentleman in the parking lot was rude and abrassive.
Overall in my opinion the Monster is a MUST PLAY, just drive the cart in the grass and bring your A game, and be prepared to be crushed like many before you. Enjoy the experience!!!!!!!
PGA level course open to the public.
If you want to play a course that the pros could possibly play on tour to get a feel for the length, green speeds and risk/reward shots you must play this one. It is in very, very good shape with only one notable exception which was a bare spot on the 11th green. The rest of the course fairways, rough (it's tough rough) and greens are in terrific shape! The course is long and I do mean long! Just shy of 7,000 yards from the white tees with two more sets behind them if you are brave or good enough. The cart paths are in awful shape and it's really hard to even ride on them but either side of them was fine. This is not unusual for an old course in the Catskills though and most of them are like that. The greens are very big but you have to get to them. A few of the par 4's are over 450 with one approaching 500 yards from the white tees. There are some length par 5's that are virtually unreachable at almost 600 yards. It takes 3 good shots to get there for me. The course is very fair! If you hit a good shot you'll be in good shape. If you miss a little bit you will be hitting from the rough. The fairways are wide enough to hit and if you miss them you hit a poor shot. The greens are very large and if you miss them, you hit a poor shot. With the U.S. Open coming up this week, if you want to play a course of similar length (about 7,500 yards from the tips) you have one here! You will need some very long tee shots on this course and that will still leave you mid to long irons in on a 300 yard drive.
Exceptional value
Beautifully maintained, gorgeous views, convenient to our residential location
one of my favorate courses
called the monster for good reason. force it and it will eat you.i came home with my ball.
best golfing value
New management is putting work into this great layout. Greens were superb and maintenance was ongoing. While playing they were mowing, removing leaves, and working the bunkers even though it was late in the season. Great job Concord!
suprised course in such good shape when catskills are in decline
Played in wet conditions with no roll after carry and made this monster that much more monsterous
Fair Value for the price
The 'Monster' was all it was said to be. Very challenging course especially playing the day after heavy rains which required cart path only. White Tee's were nearly 7,000 yds. Ironically, my only par of the day happened on the number #1 handicapped hole which was also the longest and that was after missing a 15 ft putt for birdie. Never had so many bogeys but I attribute that to the course's length. All in all, a very nice round.
great layout
friendly staff,great layout,u can't beat the price
"The Monster"
One of the best courses in the northeast. Huge Greens and tough par threes. You need to move it off the tee here.
Very very long?
Very very nice course, long and difficult, big greens.
Only problem the course is too wet, no roll at all.
If it was a little firner it would be the best course in state.
