Former Private Course
At one time Hearherdowns Country Club was 36 holes either North course being the current course and the South course was South Toledo.
Course is on mostly flat terrain with the only character holes on the front 9 in the northeast corner of property.
Greens on back 9 were screwed up by Art Hills. Worth a play if in the area.
I'm Down with Heather Downs!
When I travel the country, I like to find classic old courses to play. Heather Downs had the classic feel. Especially the back nine. Fairways lined with big old trees. My next tee time there was canceled due to flooding, so it doesn't drain as well as modern courses. Still enjoyed it, tho. Nice people in the clubhouse and at the bar. There were some challenging holes. Some long ones that were tough for an old man to reach in regulation. Just gotta get up and down, that's all! The greens were small but rolled well. I recommend a little chipping practice prior to the round.
Once great course is now average
Rough was mostly weeds. Greens were slow and a bit shaggy. Fairways we're fine. Multiple places where on site work was going on and things were really torn up. Tee boxes okay...average. Cart paths were horrible. Our pace of play was great and staff was friendly. For the price the course should be massively better. I play $20 courses in far better shape.
course layout offers a great combination of length, scenery, elevation changes and challenges for all skill levels. Course was in IMMACULATE shape considering the previous rainfall. brung friend for his 1st time playing it and he was very impressed and we will return.
Heather Downs
Fun course to play with some challenging holes but still fun to tackle. Tee boxes could use some love but greens were very well kept. Beware of the the trees on the back nine, they'll get you.
Look for hot deals for the course for best value.
4/5 stars
VERY wet and better to be a member
The course conditions were low because it was super wet out; late fall golf. If not for the cart path/rough only play it would have received 5 stars. Realize it’s a country club that public can play and I appreciate this but we felt rushed by members that went out as singles (3 separate singles) behind our group and let each of them play through. Highly recommend par 3 #16 where I hit my first ever hole in one; witnessed by my son and brother in law.
Disappointed
Went here because my brother in law recommended it. He did say it had been a long while since he had golfed here. People on the course said it used to be real nice but has went down hill recently. First time golfing here myself. Tee box’s where patchy and had chunks missing. Not divots. Chunks. Fairways were hard as a rock and the grass was so short it was like hitting off asphalt. There seemed to be a lot of dead spots everywhere from standing water going left unchecked. First cut on greens had not been cut for a while. Tufts and patches of grass in the first cut around greens. Greens where hard as concrete. I hit off the tee box on a par 3 that was 70ft above the green and 200 yards out. I hit the green and the ball bounced 6 ft in the air and rolled just off the backside. As I came up to the green with divot tool in hand to fix my divot. There wasn’t one to fix. The course has a nice layout. A lot of potential but is in disrepair right now. Not one that I will recommend or go out of my way to patronize again. Staff wasn’t super friendly either. But my main focus is the golf.
Course was in great condition and staff were very friendly
First and last time.
Staff was rude! People swimming in the water Hazzard while we're hitting.. Pace was decent but was stacked with foursomes. Will not be backed. Felt very disrespected.
Rough in good condition but is to long. Hard to find a ball in it. Slows down play.
To many over hanging limbs very close to the fairway and not far from the tee box.
Sand traps are very bad. With very little sand. It’s almost like hitting out of clay.
Greens & fairways are in good condition.
Hidden gem
Nice course with extremely nice people
Overbooked
Slowest play I have ever experienced here. They way overbooked the tee times. 2-3 groups deep at every tee box on front 9. Literally waiting 20 minutes to tee off at each hole. Pace was a little quicker on back nine, but still very slow>
