Fun but slow
Course was well maintained. Good views. Difficult holes. The only downside was that it was very slow. A threesome of 60+ year olds would not less us play through. Will go back.
Much improved!
Astorhurst has always been a very scenic course with many interesting, challenging holes. I have stayed away for the past few years, however, because the condition was not good. I had started hearing that they were really working on maintenance so I checked it out. I have to say I am very impressed with the changes! There were a few dead spots on fairways but nothing extreme, and it's clear they are continuing to really work on it. I'm looking forward to playing it again.
Golf with a great view
The course was in above average shape. There were a few rough spots on some tee boxes that were being attended to and 1 or 2 greens that had bad spots near the apron due to lack of sun and maybe high moisture due to tree coverage. I would have liked the greens to be faster but due to some recent rains it was understandable The staff was great, there was cold water on the course and the maintenance crew did the best to not be a distraction. Their are some really unique holes and you will use most of your clubs as this course rewards shot accuracy and placement. While not long it makes up for its lack of length in dog-legs, elevation changes, false front greens, greens guarded by sand traps that force you to carry to the green and the many mature trees that partially cover the fairways and greens.
With the deals available on GolfNow it is a great value. I bet this course is amazing in the fall when the leaves change color.
Fun finishing holes
Course is what you would generally expect. I would note that 8 and 18 are really fun holes with tee box maybe 80 to 100 yards elevated above fairways. Good luck figuring those out!
Ok course if ur paying under $40 for 18 holes.
This was a fairly short course with tight fairways. Easy course to put up low scores on par 5's. Could use some maintenance on a couple greens but not a bad value if you find a deal on golf now.
Course always in terrible shape
I play here a few times and finally learned my lesson to just stop coming here. It always has greens that are just unplayable and in horrible shape or even closed all together. A few of the holes are really fun to play and has potential but just in too bad a shape in general to ignore.
Getting better
I've played this course off-and-on for the last 12 years, and it's clear the owners are trying to make things better. Drainage appears to be much better, and the greens were in excellent shape. New golf carts help, too. There's still work to be done though, as some of the tee boxes were torn up. I'm not convinced the yardage markers are right, either. Still, it's a fun little course with some interesting shots (no. 8 and 18 tee shots, for example) and one of the scariest par 3s I've ever played (no. 13).
Good course.
This course used to have a great deal on Friday's after 5:00 pm. It sure would be great to bring that back. We played every Friday that the weather would permit.
Rough
The course tee to green was in need of attention. Lot's of bare areas and unkempt areas. Greens were about 4 on the stimp meter which is sloooooooow.
Course has so much potential but evidently the money is just no there to do all that needs to be done. I played here last year and while there have been some changes, not much has improved. Hope the owners come into some money to bring this course up to the standard that it has the potential for.
Short, hilly and scenic
It had been 25+ years since I had played Astorhurst, and two years since my playing partner had. I remembered very little except the hills. My partner said that they had made many improvements since he had last played. The course was maintained, and very playable. The greens have a fair amount of Poa annua in them, which can make them slower than most greens. Quite a few trees had been cut down especially around the greens which opened up shots, and I'm sure will be a help in keeping the greens in better shape by increasing air circulation. They need to remove some tees behind the 11th green to help with air circulation as the back third of that green was quite sparse and bumpy, making it the worst green on the course.
A Must Play Course
Always a nice course with friendly staff. They made some excellent inprovements to the course and the clubhouse, and although there are courses closer to my house, I plan on playing Astorhurst many times this season. I had a conversation with the GM and he knows what he is doing. If you have not played Astorhurst in a while, put it on your must play list for this year. A great value for the money.
Very nice
Course was in nice shape; staff and service waas excellent.
Very challenging
Course is very challenging. Going from hole to hole is sometimes confusing.
Good for short hitters.
Not a very hard or long course. Shot my best round ever the first time playing here a 67. Ball position is a must but other then that not very hard.
this course is in bad shape
The course is in horrible shape. The back nine is awful.
