Great outing, except for the pace of play
First time playing this course. I was very impressed by the conditions of the fairways and greens. Everything was in great condition, mowed and groomed immaculately. Lots of players out today as the weather was great. I don't mind playing a busy course as long as everyone keeps the game moving but today we got stuck behind a foursome of older guys who actually drove back one time while we were waiting to hit up to the green and told us there was three foursomes ahead of them playing a tournament so nobody was going anywhere fast. Well, it turned out that they were the problem as there was eventually nobody ahead of them because they were so slow. Instead of playing ready golf, they were watching each other's every shot and the putting they did was ridiculous. It took them 15 minutes on average to clear a green. I love this course but wouldn't come back to play here again if I got stuck behind a bunch like these guys. They ruined the day for several players behind us. It took almost 5 hours to complete 18 holes. Ridiculous.
Too long for me....
Played from the green tees, almost 6200 yards. Too long for me. Should have played the golds (5525). But it was a challenge. Took 4 penalty strokes for lost balls trying to overhit. My bad. Overall not a bad round. 96 counting the 4 PS, and from the long tees.
Great course. Long afternoon.
I have played here several times and always enjoy it. Friendly staff. Great website for making tee times. Interesting course. However on certain days they need a marshal on the course to speed up play. One foursome ahead of us was ridiculous. The group directly ahead jumped a hole to finish. Two other players behind us left and walked back to the clubhouse. Other than that, it's a great place to play.
Back after a long absence.
You have to hit the ball where you need to, and avoid trouble. Including the famous RAVINE!
Sunset Ridge is a course with a very interesting and enjoyable layout. If you are looking for a course that isn't a cookie cutter design then you will enjoy this one. What make this par 72 unique is the fact that it has six holes of each par. The three's are not overly long and can all be reached with a mid iron or less by the average golfer. The par four's have some length to them to make them not easily reachable with a wedge for your second shot. The par five's all present a unique challenge, with most consisting of rather pronounced dog legs. What makes this course a real challenge is the greens. Most have extreme breaks and require accurate approach shots in order to score well.
The price is more than reasonable, just $35 during the week and $42 on the weekends.
The par 4 16th is the signature hole at Sunset Ridge. A short par four with second shot over a ravine to a green that slopes drastically from back to front.
Not one of the more well known courses in the Syracuse area but that is part of what makes the course great. A hidden gem in the area for sure.
First time playing
First time playing, while there was a charity event happening the pro shop advised me to use the green that was not in use to warm up. There's been plenty of rain in the area this week but tee boxes were solid along with the greens. Very happy it was not cart path only. Quite a long course with very challenging greens, but the people I was paired up with advised me well along with the staff. Great experience, good craft beers, would suggest this course to anyone looking for a good golf experience.
Fun Challenge
I have considered Sunset Ridge my home course going to back to the early 2000s and have been a member on-and-off during that time, having seen it over the course of most of its history. I recently rejoined for 2021 after a few years away and overall have been favorably impressed by every aspect of the experience with the course under new ownership from a couple years back. The golf course is a truly unique layout with six of each of par 3, 4, and 5 holes. It is pretty forgiving off the tee and there are not many forced carries (a few), however the greens are incredibly nuanced and are among the most challenging In Central New York. Since I rejoined in September the quality of conditioning has only increased through the fall and it is apparent that the superintendent is putting in the work. All of the staff have been friendly and service-minded, overall very helpful. This course is an excellent value and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to try a new course that is a fun but challenging round at a well conditioned course for a reasonable price.

Great course
Great course layout. Challenging holes too. Reasonable rates specially during week days. The course is in great condition.
My new favorite course
Course always well maintained. Staff Very friendly and helpful. Good price for seniors. Thank You. My only complaint is need better signage to each hole, a few holes are confusing. Otherwise great course, and VERY close to home.
Windy
VERY windy today. But it is already mid October and the temperature was in the70's, so I had to go out!
Nice challanging course
Course was in great condition now that the drought is over and the grass has greened back up. Would play there more often if I could only putt. Greens are quick and tricky.
Great course in Syracuse and very reasonably priced
I enjoy playing the Sunset Ridge course because it is a challenging scenic course with very friendly professional staff. Staff is always working in the course to keep the grass taken care of and any other issues that may occur. I am a senior and I can play 9 holes with a cart during the week for $18 and on Monday you can play 18 holes with a cart for $25. Great course that is fun but challenging to play.
closed
The back 9 was closed due to green aeration and dressing. Played the front 9 twice. Used my GN credits to lower the price.
with a friend
Went with a friend. We have been trying to get together for years, but his work schedule always got in the way.
Played the regular men's tees with him - he is a kid - just 57, ten years younger than I. Still scored pretty well for an old man.
